If you cast 'Speak with Animal', can you attempt to use Diplomacy to get them to give you a little info?
Diplomacy: "You cannot use Diplomacy against a creature that does not understand you or has an Intelligence of 3 or less."
Animal: "no creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher can be an animal"
However:
Speak with Animals: "You can ask questions of and receive answers from animals..."
So, they might answer you without diplomacy. Try giving them some food, or protecting them from predators or something.

Trying to give them food is kind of what I ment by 'Diplomacy'.
I'm just trying to think of a way to get on an animals good side, so you can learn a little something (like that stray dog that JUST so happened to see the woman get stabbed in the street).

Yes. This is whole point of the spell.

It may well be, RAI, but by RAW, the only way to improve an animal's attitude enough to make requests of it is via Wild Empathy, which requires a level of druid. I think the spell needs an extra line making an exception to the rule that you can't use Diplomacy on animals.

I'm hoping my 'title' will catch an eye or two- .. but now to my real question.

I have the feeling this has been answered before- but I'm unable to find it. ^^'
Sorry, but with a title like that, I had to post THIS

It is still an animal with limited intelligence. An example of this is an AP where the chance to talk to an animal is written into the AP. It was funny when my players tried it and the book had the answer written out for me. It was very simple though.
Big men attack.
They go to trees.
That is not what was said, but the animal was limited to 3 responses I think, and broken sentences.
