What are some of your fanfics?
I've written and posted a short story, called Fresh Timber. I've also written a book, which is currently being edited, and I'm going to be writing a sequel novella to that book and a collection of stories continuing the tale of Fresh Timber in August. Camp NaNoWriMo for the win!
Editing less for the win, though. >_>Anyways, the sequel will involve Discord, the rest won't, and none will involve Celestia, so if you were wondering if my fanfics related to those quotes of mine, they didn't. :P
Incidentally, Fresh Timber also needs editing, but that's on a bit of a hiatus because I have way too many writing projects planned this year as-is.

Since I'm sure a lot of people, brony and non, are giving me funny virtual looks about all the fanfic, I guess I'll give a little speech.
Only last year, if anybody had told me I'd be writing pony fanfic, I'd've said they'd spent a bit too long buckin' apples, or worrying about friendship reports, or spying on friends making excuses to avoid parties, or manipulating the time stream.
Sure, I got my start writing, of all things, Runescape fanfiction. But that's a video game. More importantly, I was younger then. Even as I was coming to terms with being called a brony, I still wouldn't even consider writing fanfiction.
What changed? Among other things, I read some pony fanfic. Specifically, Mystara's Little Pony. Not only did Mystara's Little Pony indirectly inspire the book I wrote, it inspired me to reconsider my stance.
I learned a little bit while writing Fresh Timber. Just a simple entry to a contest. I edited it rabidly before submitting, and I edited it after the contest was over (though I'm told there are still flaws I hadn't been alerted to before, so it's far from perfect or finished). Helped me work out pacing a little (though I'm pretty sure this post needs a bit of pacing, since it has the sorta too-quick manner about it, but I ain't gonna rabidly edit a forum post, so yeah).
Then I wrote Kinship last month, for Camp NaNoWriMo.
I learned so much about characterization last June. I learned more in about twenty days of MLP fiction than I did over three years of writing other stuff. Just as my first bit of Runescape fanfiction taught me I was fully capable of finishing a book--albeit an awful one--this bit of MLP fanfiction, this book about six jaded ponies learning they need to stick together and put aside their differences to survive (and eventually overcome) a seemingly unending blizzard taught me...aw, heck. Already done it twice today, may as well keep up the streak.

Dear Princess Celestia,
Last month I learned that although things don't always end super for my characters, they're all still special snowflakes. Every one. And when I have to kill one, it's important not to flinch, but it's also good to maybe feel a little sad.
I learned that I'm never going to stop learning how to write, no matter how many silly challenges I take part in. As long as I keep writing new things, I'll keep learning, and I'll keep improving.
And most importantly, I learned that when I imagine how I want a story to end, it's perfectly possible to secure that ending. All I have to do is stay the course, stay true to my characters, and be ready when the time comes to click out of 'Write Or Die' and advance at my own pace.
It's important to rush ahead when you're having trouble writing. But when you're on an important scene, it may be best to slow down and snack on the roses.
If you're a pony. I'm a kobold, so yeah, not gonna do that. I'll just smell them, okay?
Your faithful student,
Kobold Cleaver
P.S. I am pleased to inform you that the gnome infestation in the caves beneath Canterlot Castle has been dealt with. My tribe will continue to mine away at the foundations. We aren't exactly dwarves, but I'm sure no permanent structural damage will be inflicted, so please don't send any more guards down to chase us off. Everything is under perfect control. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go beg for the earth ponies to help with a little, uh, balrog problem.

Not sure if it'll help, but this guy sometimes blogs about editing.
He mostly edits other peoples works, but he's had to improve his self-editing as well. One of the tricks he does, to try and get his brain to look at it with fresh eyes, change the font type, size and switch from portrait to landscape. Basically make it look as different as possible (while still being functional and readable) to help him notice more errors.

I might be starting up a P.P.B.P. (Pony Play by post) if there is enough interested people. Here is a link if anyone is.

if you do how do like it? How did you find out about it/see it?The Bronies will prolly think it's heresy, but go to youtube and search for
"Wu Tang Pony"

become a fan
Nothing wrong with that. Not pony related, but it's still an awesome song.

Well, this is quite a season so far. Probably my favorite CMC episode to date, though that ain't saying a ton. And while we should avoid spoiling the next episode for those who ain't seen the clips, I think we've got an interesting Saturday coming up.
On a non-spoilery but spoiler-related note: Episodes 1-7 and 9 have had their titles revealed. Episode 8 hasn't. I wonder why they're holding it back--it's not like episode 9's title is a big deal or anything.

Also: We all heard about that self-serving kickstarter for the "Brony Thank You Project". How about a kickstarter that actually says thank you?
40 hours to go. If you liked "Smile, Smile, Smile", or the picklebarrel speech, you should go support Amy Keating Rogers. This documentary is sure to be hilarious.

Anyone else slightly creeped out at the references to the next tier of Twilight's training, from the Crystal Empire episodes?
We see Celestia, Luna, and Twilight in a conversation where each of them has an image of their cutie marks in the background - which just happens to be sun, moon and stars. And at the end of the two-parter, the sisters are watching Twilight leave, and Luna conjures some sort of black book, and the sisters nod gravely at each other.
Those two scenes were my main takeaway from the premiere.

So a kind of ascension rite? Interesting in theroy. The question I would wonder with would be "why?" Celestia has the job of raising the sun and running the country, Luna handles the moon and watches over the night, and does her dreamwalker thing as we learned in the camping episode. What kind of role would a third princess be needed for?

No clue, though it would have to be important.
Thinking about this more, there is a lot of symmetry between Twilight, Celestia and Luna. Besides the cutie marks and the relationship between their names.
Ep 1/2 was about Celestia and Luna's falling out. Twilight was able to enter the picture and bridge the gap as it were, bringing harmony back to the day/night cycle (not that there was any implied disharmony in the natural world at that time).
Also, Twilight's foalsitter was a princess. How important do you have to be to need royalty personally acting as your caretaker?
Who knows if they have some grand master plan this whole time, but there's plenty of material for them to mine to create the illusion of one.

Remember a certain phrase from the very first episode of the series?
"The stars will aid in her escape."
And then Twilight, whose cutie mark is a set of stars, helps Luna "escape" the persona of Nightmare Moon.

Great Scott! I didn't notice the names till I read the last few posts of this thread.

I didn't remember it, but they did position it well as all set up by Celestia.
So yeah, my prediction is there's some big problem. We'll get a 2-parter again and Twilight gets her wings at the end of it. Which upsets the symmetry of the group a little, but you get a couple of episodes that are easy to mine for stories about Twilight adjusting to her changes.

Well, It's pretty clear, seeing the stars and swirls on that book, that it's Star Swirl the Bearded's personal spell book. What that means for Twilight's "Next Level", we can only guess at this moment. But it does seem that all the mane six (and Scootaloo) are getting much closer to achieving their mane life goals.

Mrs Gersen and I watched one episode on Netflix to see what the hype was about. We watched it quietly, and when it was over, I said, with a great deal of perlexity, "I don't get it."
Mrs Gersen put her hand on my arm and said, very seriously, "I'm glad you're not one of those Brony guys."
Maybe it grows on you or something? Or what?
