She still has her thinking face and pose
"I get the feeling that "Splatterman" should be researched, since we can get nothing from his nickname and it sends chills down my spine for some reason.
The piper would be a good second subject to look at, if he can control or kill with sound it would be a terrifying ability."
GM - Zombie Master |
The group spends the rest of the night talking about who these prisoners could have been. The end up no better off and head to bed.

Ravengro - Day 2
The next morning Eva comes down with exciting news. She remembers something about the Piper of Illmarsh she heard during her travels.
(real name unknown):
Before he snatched his victims, the Piper taunted his targets with a mournful dirge on his flute. He preferred to paralyze lone victims by dosing their meals with lich dust and then allowed his pet stirges to drink the victims dry of blood.
The morbid news doesn't go well with breakfast but at least the group feels they are on the right track.
They leave after breakfast for the Temple of Pharasma. They are quickly shown back to the records room to continue their investigation.
Note: Fleisher almost got the 25 needed last time. Maybe now with more help (Cyler, Rapheal, and Jonas if all are successful takes your modifier up to +10) he might get it.
And so no one cries foul for railroading - there will be enough time to either go investigate the crypt or the rumor about Zokar before the day ends.
* Each day until the haunting of Harrowstone is defeated, the PCs lose 1 point of Trust at sundown.
Fleisher Montvale |
Fleisher looks disgusted at Eva. His voice is somewhere between disgust and incredulity. "Pet...stirges??? Surely you jest! The blighted mosquito beasts can be trained? That in and of itself should land the damned lunatic in the asylum!!" He scoots his plate of eggs and bacon away and instead takes a small hunk of cheese to chew on.
Evangline Valeria Aurora |
Please be respectful, we are guests here, Mr Deeks.
Research(prisoner:Splatterman)
Know(History): 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 4 = 23
Doesn't Deeks have Know(local) which can be used to help research another topic in parallel.
GM - Zombie Master |
What?? Why he does? Sorry he should have rolled a Know(local) instead of Know(history). Not that it matters as Jonas's aid another helps get your check to 25.
The group spends the better part if the day going through books and manuscripts, papers and old journals. In one such journal, belonging to an old Harrowstone prison guard who died in the fire, they find a note written to him by a friend of his who seemed to know the notorious Splatter Man.
(real name - Hean Feramin): Professor Feramin was a celebrated scholar of Anthroponomastics (the study of personal names and their origins) at the Quartrefaux Archives in Caliphas. Yet an accidental association with a succubus twisted and warped his study, turning it into an obsession. Feramin became obsessed with the power of a name and how he could use it to terrify and control. Soon enough, his reputation was ruined, he’d lost his tenure, and he’d developed an uncontrollable obsession with an imaginary link between a person’s name and what happens to that name when the person dies. Every few days, he would secretly arrange for his victim to find a letter from her name written in blood, perhaps smeared on a wall or spelled out with carefully arranged entrails. Once he had spelled his victim’s name, he would at last come for her, killing her in a gory mess using a complex trap or series of rigged events meant to look like an accident.

With the day nearly done the group arranges to see Father Grimburrow. The good padre is unsure what the group is talking about and voices is concern.
"Are you quite sure?" he asks as the group stands in a circle in the main hall where evening services are about to start. "I wouldn't want you to disturb the bodies of any of Pharasma's faithful, unless you were certain."
NPC_male_1 |
"Yes I must prepare," he says looking at the people gathering. "Conduct your search with my blessing and let me know what you find if anything." He then turns to walk away saying hello to some of the parishioners as he passes them.
There you have permission (for the Diplomacy roll before). Now just need to know all players are set to go back to The Restlands and I will fast forward the game to there.
Grey Jonas |
Jonas waits for a moment, looks at the other like he's saying are we sure about this, then takes a deep breath. Follow me he says, taking point, his luminous talisman in hand, the other hand on the hilt of the sword just in case.

Fleisher Montvale |
Feeling the potential creeping menace of the darkening graveyard, Fleisher bows to the minor bout of paranoia. Before they enter the walls of the cemetery, he looks to the others and says "Just a moment please. I want to take a brief precaution." He spends a minute mixing together a quick extract (Bomber's Eye) and places it in one of his belt pouches. He nods as he stands up. "Let's not tarry."

The group makes there way down the paths when Fleisher stops short.
You see the ground before a nearby grave stone quickly bulge and then drop flat, like the ground was taking a deep breath.
Also sorry for the confusion an INIT check is short for INITIATIVE. Will take your roll and put you at INIT-14.
need also items in hand if any

Meanwhile elsewhere in the Restlands...
Peredur ap Erevel stops to check yet another headstone. He had spent over the last hour checking graves looking for his late friend and teacher Professor Lorrimor.
And he was still beating himself up for showing up a day (A DAY!) late to attend the professor's funeral. Well he was going to pay his respects even if it took him all night...
"What was that?" Perception check please
Peredur ap Erevel |
Perception check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Th' damnable delay...who would have thought a carriage wouldn't carry a spare axle pin? It's but the size of two fists; surely there must've been room for it? Ah, well. 'Tis fate, it is.
The tall half-elf looks up and peers around, hand going near the hilt of his longsword.
Fleisher Montvale |
Sorry about the misread. Chalk up another 'derp moment' for me.
Fleisher recoils in shock at the sudden movement and his hand goes to his newly prepared extract. He hollers "By the Boneyard, we may have some trouble here!"
Fleisher readies an action. If anything starts actually coming out of the ground, he will step 10' back away from his current position (to give more space to the others) and drink his Bomber's Eye extract.
GM - Zombie Master |
Some trouble rises...
Casting about at Fleisher's words everyone watches as the dirt before more than a half dozen graves buckles and bulges. Then a rotten arm here followed by a maggot eaten face there come up out of the ground as the dead in The Restlands slowly come back to life.
Top of round 1 - everyone may reach a zombie with a move action.

Jonas moves in and places is short sword deep into the gut of a zombie. The thing doesn't flinch as the witch hunter only adds yet another hole to the many throughout it's body.
Then the world around the group is bathe in a white light as Eva calls forth the divine power of Kurgess. It reaches out touching most of the creatures and when the light is gone they all still advance even though the smoulder as if they were burning and large chunks have been blow away from some.
Peredur sees the light and quickens his pace trying to round the mausoleum that blocks him.

Fleisher Montvale |
Scowling at the stench coming up from the opened graves and divinely singed undead, Fleisher drops the empty bottle that housed his extract, and with hands almost too fast to follow rips two vials from his rig. With his left thumb he flips the lightning cap on a viscous green liquid and with his right thumb kicks the cork out of a tube of blue powder. He dumps the powder into the liquid and clicks the cap back into place, shakes it once, and throws it at the nearest shambling abomination (H14). The chemicals inside start bubbling wildly as the bomb leaves his hand.

Seeing that his sword is no good agaist these foul creature, Jonas will switch to his trusty bow: perhaps an arrow in the brains will be more effective. He takes a step backwards from the nearest zombie and the fire the bow.
My next turn I will take a 1,5 step backwards and attack with the bow. Don't know exactly where I am so position me where you like. Also activating Destruction Judgment as a swift action, will last till the end of this combat.

GM - Zombie Master |
Fleisher's bomb hits the zombie furthest south straight in the chest, engulfing it in flames. The dry skin and bones erupt in an inferno and the beast falls back into the freshly overturned dirt it just crawld out of.
Cyler steps up to be back to back with Eva. "Great work! Hit them again as they draw closer, you know they are bound to try and surround us."
The remaining zombies slowly get to their feet. The moaning accompanying them not so much coming from their throats but from the wind as it travels through the many holes through out the creatures. A mournful dirge of the dead to play in the background as the group fights for their lives.

Top of Round 2
The zombie Jonas struck takes a rotten meaty fist and swings it at the warrior. The fist connects and Jonas immediately hops back away from a follow up attack. He drops his sword and draws his bow.
With a quick load and pull he delivers an arrow that buries itself deep into the zombies neck. But doesn't effect it at all as it readies to attack once more.
Another zombie moves from the tombstones out onto the path as someone enters the fight from the east. He wears leathers and carries a longsword in hand. ""Th' waking dead in consecrated ground--'tis not to be borne!" he yells as he advances on the melee.

A tall half-elf charges the zombie nearest him, longsword held in both hands as he attempts to cut down the walking corpse. Unfortunately, he misses a step and his sword slices harmlessly past his target.

Fleisher Montvale |
Fleisher takes a step back to stand on Eva's other flank and repeats his bomb making process. The hissing vial streaks through the air. He chews on his lower lip as he notices the Bomber's Eye extract has already run its course and his precise vision slackens, ever so slightly. (Targeting Zombie 4, if it isn't engaged in melee)

GM - Zombie Master |
The bright divine light of Eva's channeling once more erupts throughout the cemetery. When the burst touches the zombies one immediately crumbles into dust the others... need to see rolls
The zombie Peredur missed raises an old stump with a piece of sharp bone protruding out. As it is just about to bring it down on the over extended half-elf the divine light hits it and it drops to the ground smoldering as if burnt to death.
Fleisher steps back and sees a zombie closing in on him. His bomb takes it full in the chest. Weakened by the divine magic the creature falls as it continues to burn.
"Hey that was awful close!" Cyler yells at the man. "What would have happened had you missed?" He wasn't in melee but was right next to the splash area
"Whoa!" the rogue shouts ducking and bringing his sword breaker around in a quick swing as one of the zombies draws near to him.

Round 3:
