Chase Scenes

Advice

Grand Lodge

Hey, I am getting ready to run a campiagn soon and I am looking to have a great chase scene in it, I have read thru the rules for the chase scene and there seems to be a lot of good idea's but becuase I do not have a lot of time, I am looking for some Idea's for a longer Woodland chase scene, for a set up it is going to be like this

The party is level 1 and they are going to encounter a a evil robin hood type char with a band of not so merry men, I have got all of the evil party ready, I have got a level 2 rouge that will be the party's chase victim because he is going to be stealing the item that they need to get back.

I have got a river in the middle of the forest that is about 5 ft wide so could be an easy jump across, the river is about 10ft deep as well any idea's that might be able to help me out?

Thanks in advance!!

The Gneech did some awesome work on extrapolating on the "build a monster" rules Paizo has. You can find in here as page 42 for Pathfinder, a play on similar quick table of DCs for 4e D&D.

The way the chase rules basically work is you pick two different skills to match in the situation. For example the river could either be a jump check, or say an acrobatics check to balance on a fallen log across the cut.

An idea is to make say 5 or 6 "cards" doing different combinations of skills with some typical forest terrain themes.

Here are some things:

Brambles
Fallen big tree
Stream (which you have)
Steep up hill slope
Sudden drop off

Don't worry about defining sizes etc, the chase rules are supposed to be quick to help you handle such a scene quickly and keep it rolling.

If the PCs loose the goblin then it is down to Survival and the tracking use of that skill to pick up the trial and then to follow it.
