I was flicking through the PHB this evening and noticed that you take your shield ACP as a penalty on attacks when using weapon finesse. I then had to go and check the PF core book see if it was the same, and it is! Who knew? Certainly not me, and after all these years.

I just learned that one too due to a question about the drow in the bestiary. It looks like the penalty was applied already!

I just recently learned that metamagic spells cast by sorcerers are full round actions instead of 1 round casting time and there is a difference. It is amazing that we can play this game for so long and discover new things all the time.

see sometimes a rules lawyer does help teach you... yes they still piss you off but hey you do learn things. yeah those rules shocked me first time are guy shouted them in a game.

Isnt there already a thread for things "people may not know about pathfinder"

Get a mithral shield -- no more check penalty.

Oh man, that takes me back. My group played it as 1 round casting time from the beginning of 3e, until 3.5 came out and it was clarified just a little. We were like, oh...huh-huh! Needless to say, nobody played a sorcerer in the 3.0 days. Then after we adopted 3.5 it became the most popular spellcasting class. Go figure.

Elves are taller than humans.

In 3.5 they were shorter.

Odd change, if you ask me.

EDIT: I can't spell.

Unless you played Forgotten Realms. Not sure when shorter elves creeped into DnD. Tolkien had them taller, and 0ed took a whole lot from his stuff. I only started in 2nd, though, and elves were shorter there, too.

And so did Moorkok, i too don't know when and from where shorter elves came.

Now can someone give me a page number or PRD link for what the OP said about shield's ACP and weapon finesse? i can't find it.

Here it is!

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/feats.html#weapon-finesse

It's not exactly hard to get around (MW buckler etc.) and unlikely to come up considering most characters who finesse don't tend to use shields (at least in my experience). I was merely expressing my surprise that I hadn't noticed it before in the last decade! Oops.

Why had i never paid attention to the second sentence? It was the same in 3.5, so why do i notice now?

Anyway thank you.

It's the little rules like that which serve little practical game purpose that bug me. ACPs to climbing and such? I can see it. But just to hamper a choice and reinforce a fighting style image? I'd rather it be by a carrot than a stick, like say a +1 shield bonus on weapon finesse if no shield or such. It's a rule I don't think I've ever seen applied by anyone in 10 years of 3.x D&D games.
