Feats for a Drunken Master of Many Styles

Advice

So I have drawn up what I think is a good progression for my new Drunken Master of Many Styles. His name is Wuse Gee and is always getting into drunken brawls because of various mispronunciations of his name. Some call him a wuss, some call him gay, some call him both which is generally a very bad idea. For practicality I will Most likely Quinggone him as well. I would appreciate any suggestions for the empty feat holes, as well as replacement abilities for the following monk class features. I quite like Quivering Palm and Abundant step, but if there are vastly superior options that you know about, please enlighten me.

Slow Fall
High Jump
Wholness body
abundant step
Quivering palm
Timeless body

I was considering the dimensional agility line of feats as I have open feats from 13 on which is right when I qualify. Do you guys think this is a good path?

Feats:
1:Combat Reflexes
1(style):Monkey Style
2(style):Monkey Shine
3:Mantis Style
5:Dragon Style
6(style):Dragon Ferocity
7:Panther Style
9:
10(style):Panther Claw
11:Panther Parry
13:
14(style):Elemental Fist
15:
17:
18(style)Boar Style
19:

Thank You for your consideration, and I hope you enjoy my character as much as I soon will.

Power Attack. That and Blood crow strike are both fun. Ki Leech is very useful too.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I came across an awesome concept for a drunken master yesterday right here.

It focuses around the full Panther Style tree and Mobility, running around and provoking AOOs with high AC and retaliating (as a free action, up to wis mod times per round), with the standard action used to drink to get a temp ki and a swift to get that +4 dodge AC (dodge, mobility and +4 dodge bonus nets you +9 AC vs AOOs when you run around, making it extra hard to hit you in your drunken half-concious rampage).

You can easily combo it with Snake Style and Snake Fang (take Snake Fang with a style feat to skip the prereqs after you pick up Snake Style with a character feat) to use those ordinary AOOs with Combat Reflexes when they surely miss you.

So for example the first 6 levels could look like this:

C = character feat, B = bonus feat, H = human feat
1: dodgeC, panther styleB, mobilityH, fuse style
2: panther clawB
3: combat reflexesC, drunken ki
4:
5: snake styleC,
6: snake fangB

This way you get everything you need (except Panther Parry, which I couldn't fit into these first 6 levels), and later you can throw in some Dragon Style and Dragon Ferocity for a bit more punch if that sounds right to you. Even Monkey Style later could be interesting, as you've got both of them in your build I assume you'd probably want them sooner or later. Boar Style or Mantis Style doesn't seem to go that well with a drunken master though, as the Style feats in themselves aren't that good.

The Combat Style Master feat might be worth considering if you can fit it in, starting in one style and then changing styles as a free action is handy to deal with action management before level 20, or it might take several rounds before you got all the styles running at the same time. Fast Drinker to make it a swift action to drink, instead of a standard, could be worth considering if you happen to have 18+ Con to play around with, but I doubt you'd want that kind of MAD. :P

For the QG monk, swapping out Slow Fall for Barkskin could be an interesting idea to boost your AC even more. As the duration is 10 min/level you can drink and use your temporary drunken ki, and then drink again to replenish the ki point, more or less keeping barkskin up on you all the time as long as you can drink.

Would that Chelaxian quick consumption trait allow you to swill "Potions of Inebriation" as a swift action?

Accelerated Drinker would make it a move action, assuming the GM consider the drinking of alcohol to get a drunken ki point equal to consuming a potion (which is a standard action too).

I'd just imagine the amounts of booze a monk would have to bring to have enough. A bag of holding full of kegs hm..

Also I wouldn't recommend Vow of Fasting, hah.

You really, really want the Fast Drinker feat. Lets you drink booze as a swift action. It requires Con 18, though.

You can't take Vow of Fasting because that means you can only drink water. Vow of Poverty and Vow of Truth are the two that you want. Vow of Poverty because all you really need is your jugs of alcohol and a few stuff for travelling. Vow of Truth because it's fun to roleplay being the crazy drunk who, above all odds, somehow always tells the truth regardless of how he acts in his drunken stupor.

Drunken Ki replaces Still Mind, a prerequisite for monk vows.

Extra Traits: Venom Drenched (Alcohol) if you can get away with it.

Fast Drinker might not be that good. It might take a while to enter into all styles, so you might not be able to use it.
