Kalimac:
Here it is ... turns out it's more badass than I thought. You add everyone's stealth bonuses TOGETHER, *and* take the highest roll ...

Stealth Synergy (Teamwork)
Working closely with an ally, you are able to move like twin shadows.
Benefit: While you can see one or more allies who also have this feat, whenever you and your allies make a Stealth check, you all take the highest roll and add all your modifiers to Stealth.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kyrademon:
Any prerequisites? I need to meet them if there are any. No one else does, but I do.

Kalimac:
No prerequisites.

Kalimac:
But I should double-check what is meant by "modifiers" ... I may be misinterpreting.

Aaaaaaand ... Kalimac:
OK, the precise definition of "modifier" is frustratingly unclear, but internal clues imply that it is "anything that provides a bonus or a penalty to a D20 roll", so I'll go with that, which means my first interpretation was correct -- you ADD UP everyone's stealth scores and then add *that* to the highest D20 roll made by the group.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Don't mind me ~ I'm just testing google reader's thingy with threads.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kyrademon:
I've thought about it, and I think I'll stick with Precise Strike for 1st level. It's more in my idiom. But when 9th level starts looming, I think it might be the next step.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Just a remark on using Kannada for Thassilonian. My friend here at work is from Bangalore, and thus is a native Kannada speaker. (She is also completely fluent in English, with almost no accent.) If anyone wanted something translated better than what Google Translate can do, I could pester her. I'm used to her giving me funny looks.

I don't know that anyone would need the extra verisimilitude, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

That's super sweet, but I don't think I'd want to bug her... And given "Show me the magic inside" after being changed by Google Translate and then back to english became "I have a Magic Show". It's not like I'm going go accurate.

I'm sure her translation would be better... But I was just going for a language that looked pretty :). If you want to let her know that I think she's got one of the prettiest languages, you can do that.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Unless any of us can actually read Kannada, the verisimilitude is perfect, no need to waste someone's time on this.

To be honest, my rendition of Terran is a bit of a waste of time, since it costs more work to use it than Google Translate does. I'm having fun with it, so I couldn't care less, but if Ry's getting fed up with the extra work for his Terran-speaking NPCs, I'm fine with switching as well.

I'd probably go for Estonian. I like macrons on vowels. :) I do think the current Terran looks and sounds more "earthy", though.

But I already snagged Estonian for Halfling.

Yup, Estonian is taken.

I will admit that the one time I've had to do translation-into-Terran so far, it took more work than I would prefer. If you'd be willing to pick a nice earthy language for it, it would be a bit easier on me.

Perhaps something a bit more exotic to our ears, like Swahili --

Hii ni nini hukumu inaonekana kama katika lugha hii!

Or Malay:

Ini adalah ayat kelihatan seperti dalam bahasa ini!

Or Armenian:

Սա այն է, ինչ մի նախադասություն կարծես այս լեզվով.

But I'll leave it to you.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Oh, I guess I meant Latvian then. I keep mixing up those Baltic languages.

I really like that Armenian font! It looks almost like it was designed to be Earthy. Too bad there's no telling what it might sound like. But maybe I'm the only one who actually tries to pronounce the Terran in my head anyway. ;o)

Actually, there's a button that lets you read some of them phoenetically, and it can be used on Armenian. The above sentence is:

Sa ayn e, inch’ mi nakhadasut’yun kartses hayeren lezvov .

Neat!

I also like the look of Hebrew, the characters look similarly "earthy" as Armenian, but have more weight in the font size used here. Maybe Hebrew could be used as Terran, and the more flimsy Armenian for Auran or something? Maybe Arabic could be Ignan and Tamil Aquan? I think Tamil looks rather bubbly. ;)

Of course, some people might know some of these languages, in which case they should speak up...

Testing:

Air: Սա այն է, ինչ հնչում օդի պես.
Earth: זה מה שנשמע כמו כדור הארץ.
Fire: هذا ما يبدو وكأنه النار.
Water: இந்த தண்ணீர் போன்ற ஒலிகள் என்ன உள்ளது.

Incidentally, because I like to keep track of how things are running --

A lot of posts just went down while some people were offline. I would have stopped it if it actually went into combat, but there's still a bit for some people to catch up on.

This was deliberate on my part because, frankly, for a bit there what happened pretty much depended on just one person in the group, who was the only one who spoke Goblin.

Either Melinda would succeed with negotiations and then everyone could get on with stuff everyone could be more involved in, or she'd fail and you'd all get attacked and everyone would be involved again. So the rapid back-and-forth between the Goblins and Melinda was an attempt to get through that part while I knew Melinda's player was around.

(Feedback, positive or negative, on the pacing of this game is always welcome.)

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

So far the pacing is fine for me. Most of the action happens when I have time to peek in and keep abreast.

Weekends are when I am offline the most, but even that hasn't been an issue.

I do get a chuckle over the amount of back and forth that happens when, for me, it's 3 or 4 in the morning.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

It's when Ry wakes up and just before me and Myriana go to bed.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

I liked the pacing so far. I figure we're making good headway in this adventure, since up to now we've had almost no combat rounds, and the free-form banter among the character establishes personalities rather efficiently even with the limited "bandwidth".

I could well imagine how the progress so far might have taken an entire real-life session at the table (mostly spent futilely deciding about the optimal way to approach the fort and such ;). Surely things will slow down if we have more combat (or at least multi-round combat), but given how sometimes at later levels, with a lot of participants and spells, a single round can take an entire hour to resolve at the table, our one-round-per-day pace should still be able to keep up.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

So, is anyone opposed to using Hebrew as the new Terran?

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

I have no objection to the 'new' Terran, but whose going to explain the change to the Xorn?

Hebrew works for me.

They're an old species, I'm sure they've gone through quite a few spelling reforms already.

Actually, I'm going to use Yiddish rather than Hebrew. I noticed the Hebrew translator will stumble on words like "Xorn", whereas the Yiddish translator just transliterates them.

So:

Ghush hush ngê rembol gho pellopok yaw kê ylûk gho kollang kem.
דעם איז איצט די ריכטיקע וועג צו שרייַבן די טערראַן צונג.

Ooooh pretty!

Male Human Gunslinger / 3

I arrive.

Notes on characters not in the party yet:

A half-elf barbarian will likely be joining in the nearish future.
A human gunslinger will likely be joining in about a week.
A (?) monk(?) may be joining in mid-August.
A (?) alchemist(?) may be joining at some point.

Aaaand I think I'm going to close it there. 10 characters strikes me as about the upper limit of where people can keep track of who's who and have sensible conversations in a PBP.

So if you're one of the people I haven't heard from in a week or more at this point (other than Randall, the monk(?), who I knew would be incommunicado), I'm going to assume you're not in.

And Tollin Elere would be the human gunslinger to whom I referred.

Tollin, a couple of notes on your character sheet:

Please note down your relationship score with at least Shalelu. It should be 7.

Please note your max amount of Grit under that ability.

Your AP trait will also give you a +1 bonus on Acrobatics; please note that in the trait, the skills, and also add a skill modifier section after skills to note such things. Also note the bonus for Suspicious in that section, and the armor check penalty for your studded leather.

Note your +1 bonus against foes threatening Shalelu as a Modifier in a section somewhere in Offense. Also note the Point Blank Shot bonus in it as well.

Some of your special ability descriptions cut off before important points; please make sure that at least all the mechanics are included.

Looking good!

Tollin:
Please let me know whether your relationship with Shalelu is friendly or competitive.

Personally, I feel that competitive might be a fun way to go for your two characters -- each trying to prove, in a friendly kind of way, that you're the baddest baddass around, arguing guns vs. bows, exchanging friendly insults. I'm kind of thinking a Legolas/Gimli friendly rivalry here; I think it makes sense as your character's reaction to someone who saved your life.

However, it's your call and either way is fine.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Cool, I'm looking forward to seeing a Gunslinger in action. Remind me to wear earplugs.

Apparently, they cost 3 cp.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Lio already has some :)

Male Human Gunslinger / 3

Come now people, what is a little deafening noise and choking black smoke among friends?

Male Half-elf Barbarian

Eastern time zone (Michigan) here, but I work 4 PM to 2 AM, so it's a late-shifted Eastern. Nearly ready, says the half-elf barbarian, nearly ready. You cannot rush a tempering.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Now, if we can only get Mel some Ray-Bans....

The only Ray-Bans I could find in Pathfinder will not be available to her until 4th level, alas.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

The APG lists "Smoked Goggles" for 10 gp.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

But that item doesn't help (although are RayBans_

PRD wrote:
Smoked Goggles: These spectacles have lenses made of smoked glass that help protect against creatures with gaze attacks. You are always treated as averting your gaze when dealing with gaze attacks, and you gain a +8 circumstance bonus on saving throws against visual-based attacks (any attack that a blind creature would be immune to). You have a –4 penalty on Perception checks while wearing the goggles, and all opponents are treated as having concealment (20% miss chance).

Gaze attack protection, helps not for light sensitivity. :)

Tollin, just noting that there is a spoilered question for you a few posts above (not sure if you saw it and were considering, or just missed it, but I wanted to be sure it didn't get lost in the shuffle.)

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10
Melinda Sorn wrote:

Where does your light sensitivity come from, anyway? You're not a disguised drow, are you? ;)

If it's only a fluff drawback rather than crunch, one could easily rule that smoked goggles should help...

It is, alas, a real drawback derived from the character build options she took, with very specific in-game mechanics and also only very specific means of correcting it. So no fluffing.

To find out where she "gets in from" in the in-character, in-game sense, however, drop by the monastery sometime and say hi to her mom Elena.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

I was just thinking about helping her with the sneezing. And, come on. Teenager with Ray-Bans? It just fits.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

In my case the sneezing is taken from my real-world sun allergy. It fit. Which sounds strange when said that way.... I should say that I have a recessive characteristic in which sudden shift to bright light, or intense bright light, causes me to sneeze. (Which I though was perfectly normal until one of the much smarter people at my undergrad informed me otherwise.)

And Mel would be the first one to point out that her mom considers her an adult.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

I also sneeze going into the sun (not all the time, but frequently). So I appreciated the characterization for Mel.

Male Human Cleric 10

Bajoran women sneeze during pregnancy. It takes all kinds.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

So Kalimac is well suit-ed and has a nifty ranged weapon?

As a quick note on that --

Kalimac's own armor is probably still better.

He would currently take a -2 penalty on attacks with the bow, since it is above his strength rating.

Bear in mind that stuff can of course be sold if no one wants it.

I'll post the updated loot list here when you're done exploring the house.

Male Human Cleric 10

At the very least, we'll have some spending money. Although I don't envy whoever has to fence the panties.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

How do you think Mel felt having a conversation about pretty panties in the middle of life and death combat?
.
.
.
.
.
7 small +1 animal bane arrows -> Kalimac
3 potions of cure light wounds -> distribute throughout group for emergency
1 skyrocket firework next to his throne -> ?
small masterwork chain shirt -> sell?
small masterwork composite longbow (rated for +1 Str bonus) -> Kalimac?
6 arrows
small spear
32 gp
and he is wearing a pair of pretty, lacy panties with a floral pattern, worth 20 gp

That sound about right, Kalimac do you want the bow?

Male Human Cleric 10

Like she's a character in one of Ry's games :)
