Patcher, a couple posts back I indicated the information I would like to have pursued from Ieana and Gelik. Would you like me to roleplay the interactions in the RP thread? (I would have pursued this information a long time ago... well before the last week of the journey, but if it fits better to RP it out now, that is fine too).

Please do roleplay your interactions - that's what I want to see right now. Ieana will be rather quiet and likely not socialise much - while Gelik will be a bit of an arrogant snob of a braggart, if you need to know what's necessary to characterise them.

Good to know, scranford. Hope you return soon.

Hey guys - I've been sick the last day or so. Sorry for the light posting.

Avarthiel has responded to Kythas, but it's just idle banter. From a storytelling point of view I'd go with the big kick-off scene (didn't know it was a ship-wreck) fairly soon. I like stories that start with a bang! Also, it means I won't have to invent too many spurious details about what Avarthiel is planning to do next, before he gets overtaken by circumstance :)

Heya Avarthiel, I just missed your response before throwing up the Aerys RP. =) I tried to adjust it after, but deleted it after the second response. I need to remember to refresh before posting at work! LOL

No worries :) It kinda works with Kythas as a bundle of energy leaping around all over the ship! Figured it was an F5 problem.

Patcher, I just noticed that I only have two traits, instead of the three I'm supposed to. If you're okay with it, I'd like to add Caretaker, giving a +1 bonus to the Heal skill and making it a class skill. I figure it would reflect time he spent as an herbalist and healer in his many, many careers over the decades.

I must have missed that. Go ahead.

Thanks. Profile updated, including scratching off the rations I slipped to Jask.

Updated the Rum rations from 3 to 2 on Kythas as well.

Now to see if it pays off...

Once the Aerys situation resolves, Kythas will barrage Dantes with questions, etc. now that they have a few moments 40' above prying ears and eyes. (Discounting Sasha sneaking up the rigging and surprising them both in her confounding, silent madness.)

Depending on whether he is successful in his attempts to impress the half-elf or earns a sound beating, he'll be either overly proud of himself and carving a totemic-looking panther out of driftwood or silently cursing about how he should have played it different and whittling a tribal thunderbird instead.

Either way he isn't that drunk, given Aerys likely drained the majority of the bottle.

I'll be more absent than not today and tomorrow. Struggling with sleeplessness and grief. One of my rats died last night. Will try to get a post in, but no promises.

I apologise.

Hey Patcher, sorry to hear that you lost a pet (a friend, really). And sleepless nights just make everything harder. Hope you're things are better for you soon.

Sorry about your loss. We'll see you back when you're feeling up to it.

We had a pair of rats we bought for my little sister's school project many years ago, cute little white and black buggers.
We used to feed them Cap'n Crunch peanut butter puffs sometimes and they would bite our fingertips just barely hard enough that we could lift them out of the cage by their teeth. (it was like a game for them, they weren't mean)

Sorry to hear that you lost a pet DM Patcher, and see you back when you're feeling better.

After a day of mourning and a good night's sleep, I have returned.

The big event happens now. Roleplay the dinner (and I will wait for Lilly now) and then do the fort save, as asked...

Glad you're back :)

I'm kind of back too, just exhausted. I'll get caught up sometime this weekend. Sorry about the slow beginning. Bad timing on the sales trip, but I'll get caught up and move forward tomorrow, and Sunday.

Looks like if your name starts with a "Ky" you're not going to have a good time after Dinner.
Laughing at mine and Kystra's less than stellar fort rolls.

I have a feeling Kythas is going to wake up with a violent stomach ache and no hangover to show for it.

Glad to hear this. I hope your activity will increase - this has been the intro for the most part, and I apologise for being so slow.

Yeah looks like Avarthiel has dwarves constitution for curry ;)

Welcome back Lilly. Stupid hotel internet - had that before and it just sucks.

Yeah, well the dwarf got a 13 on his fort roll. A 13. 16 con, good fort save progression, and a 13 total.

I apologise for the slow pace. If Lilly hasn't posted in 3 hours, I will advance the plot regardless - and earlier if she does post.

I wish to go over a couple of rules in regards of what happens after the shipwrecking - you will be on an island, which you will have to explore. I will track time fiercely - every hour and every day will count to some degree. Furthermore, I will also utilise spoilers a lot - if you split up, I ask that you post in spoilers.

I'm sure all of you have heard of the bombing and shooting that happened in Norway - what you might not know is that I'm from Norway too. Because of the scale of this tragedy, I won't consider this weekend in regards of the 1/day minimum requirement. I hope, come tomorrow, that we'll up the pace of this campaign, though.

DM Patcher - I think you may have forgotten to post Kystra's current status? I suspect that you may perhaps confuse her with Kythas name since they are close? A couple times now I have not received replies to posts (such as my latest one where I was waiting for Ieana to reply).

I'm guessing with my fantastic saving throw, that something bad is about to happen to Kystra :)

Rawr!!!

First 20 of the game to the green-haired elf!
Of course it would have to be on something as ridiculous as a knowledge check that I probably could have taken 10 on and passed. LOL!

I wonder what Kythas DOESN'T know about these wicked little beasts.

Except that they're probably going to pinch and poison him to death where he stands. ;)

@Kystra: I haven't. You're unconscious at the moment, so in-character you're currently unawares of what's transpiring. I apologise for keeping you "in the dark", as it were.

Kystra:

The fort saves weren't to determine if you saved versus the hypothetical poison - but to determine the order in which you wake up.

Hey Patcher, I didn't know that you are from Norway. My thoughts are with all the people of Oslo and Norway as they come to terms with the shocking events of the weekend. Hope you're OK.

Avarthiel:
You don't have Mage Hand currently memorized by any chance do you? *wink* envisioning said staff flying to your hand out of the junk Skywalker style *wink*

edit: Bah! Forgot the DC:20 concentration check to do it. You'd think you'd at least be able to cast cantrips without the bonded object!

Also a quick note to DM Patcher, before I start swinging that MW Curve Blade around, I read the brand spanking new errata for the heirloom weapon trait from Adventurer's Armory and see that they nerfed it all the way to Hell. (to put it lightly, although it was admittedly a tad OP. I saw the link to the nerf in the "Don't Nerf Me Bro" thread in General Discussion)

New Heirloom Weapon trait:
Heirloom Weapon: You carry a non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that has been passed down from generation to generation in your family (pay the standard gp cost for the weapon). When you select this trait, choose one of the following benefits: proficiency with that specific weapon, a +1 trait bonus on attacks of opportunity with that specific weapon, or a +2 trait bonus on one kind of combat maneuver when using that specific weapon.

This is down from a masterwork weapon that you got a +1 trait bonus to attack while using.

Since the Curve Blade is treated as a Martial Weapon from an elf anyway, I could still use the trait, but it seems completely useless now.
However I'd feel cheesy knowing it has been errata'ed and don't want to use the old ruling.
I'd like to change the trait to Rich Parents (it fits his background as being a prominent elf in the clan who was betrothed to an equally prominent elf woman before the arrival of the humans), to at least keep the blade a MW one, if possible, and won't change anything else to reflect the extra GP gain to the character, and am content in letting the balance of his unspent gold go down with the Jenivere. (short the dozen coins in his pockets).
I'll wait to see what you decide before taking any further actions in the IC thread or updating my sheet, since the change could change his ATT using the blade to +5 or +6. (from its current +7)

Kythas:
Made of win :D

Eugh - that's a crappy way to wake up, and Avarthiel's not even being pinched by the lobstrocities! Hope no-one loses any important fingers.

@Kythas: I consider the change to Heirloom Weapon to be horrible design, and as such will not consider the errata to be in effect in this campaign.

Okies, Thanks DM Patcher!
I won't touch a thing then. :)

We're waiting for Lilly...

Yes, this is round two - spoiler your post, please. You didn't say which square you scrambled to.

So I think everyone is awake now? And we can do away with the spoilers? Right, let's get rid of these lobster things and then we can work out which way is up and where we are and what's going on!

Yes, everyone is awake now. A little DM interference from my side, Kystra wasn't supposed to wake up in another 3 rounds, but it also puts her in the dark a bit, which is a little unfair and irritating (I'd think).

Kystra, I forgot to update the battle map - you may want to change your action (edit function) before the hour's up.

Currently its like one big drunken dance party on the beach with swings, misses, running around and giant lobster-scorpion-crab things! LOL

I'd like to apologize in advance if my errant "1" on my opening attack of the game results in any bodily harm to the haunted oracle at my side...

... I shouldn't have bragged that '20'!

Yeah it's gonna be a long old fight at this rate! Hopefully next turn someone will manage to hit something :) Not that Avarthiel's trying to hurt the monsters yet. I'm sure a wizard flailing with a big stick will make all the difference, and is just what we've been missing!

Yay - go Dantes, go Dantes! That might be a hit! The second hit of the fight from our side!

I think this bodes well for us having a good clear development arc from general incompetence to being a dangerous group of adventurers!

It would appear that our get-together on the surf has escalated to physical violence!

While combat isn't over just yet (though only 3 remanining...!), I wanted to know your thoughts on how I handle combat?

Is the group initiative concept working?

Is the map any good?

Am I detailing everything sufficiently well? Do you feel left-out (now that everything is out in the open)?

I think its all pretty Great!

Very descriptive in detailing the creatures, attacks, NPCs and their actions and reactions and the scene in general.

Loving the Initiative too.

The map is definitely evocative of the situation, although a disco ball in the middle of the pile of junk might explain a lot of the non-hitting going on. =)

You're doing an awesome job, and I'm both proud and happy to be participating in this PbP Patcher!

DM Patcher:
I'm having almost as much fun reading the Kingmaker PbP, I'm envious of the group you got over there. Truly a top notch group of role-players if I've ever seen one. Its moving along at a great speed too. Once again, Envious!!!

NOT loving the fact that I've managed to cough up attack rolls of 1, 2 and 3 consecutively, but I have gotten far worse results from actual dice, so no real complaint there either. Other than "DAMN YOU DICE-ROLLER!!!"
As I said I earlier, I just HAD to brag that 20.
Karma and all that.

Aw, thank you.

The dice roller doesn't seem to want to be kind - even *my* rolls have been crap.

Added a spoiler (via Edit) to the above post.

I think the other players will agree that you can roll "1"s for the monsters for the entire adventure path without complaint. LOL
Or at least on damage rolls, verifications for crits, willpower saves and opposed perception vs. stealth checks. =)

I think it is working great, and the pacing has been excellent. The only thing I might suggest (and this hasn't been an issue so far) is implementing a 24 hour rule. If someone doesn't post during combat for 24 hours, then you would reserve the right to post their character's action (or a default action, like all out defending) to keep things moving. It doesn't happen often in the other games I play in, but once in a while there will be an unexpected absence (work flare up, internet outage, etc.) that keeps someone away from posting.

But so far, your system has been working out brilliantly. It helps keep one person from waiting to post because another player higher in the initiative hasn't had a chance to get on yet.

Picking up the various strands of conversation...

Man the dice have not been kind to anyone. We are due for some awesome rolls in later fights. That said I think it's good that we haven't had a '1 hit 1 kill' situation. It's been funny imaging people stumbling around flailing completely ineffectually at the little critters. Bunch of drunks on the beach :)

The fight mechanics are working well, and the group initative idea is genius. I know you guys all end up waiting for me while I'm asleep, but it would be even worse if we had individual initiatives. Echoing markofbane I'd be comfortable with Avarthiel taking some default action (cast a cantrip, full defense, whatever) after 24 hours.

The map is good - nice evokation of the scene and clear eanough for tactical play. And I don't feel left out :)

Finally I am enjoying this game. I hope everyone else is, and if there's anything that anyone would like to see, then let's talk about it here.

I am really enjoying the way it is picking up as well. And I think Patcher is doing a great job breathing life into the voices of the NPCs.

Effin' HELL that was annoying. I had my entire post up when I accidentally closed the browser...

Updated. I did Avarthiel's actions, he killed a creature (with a cantrip, no less!)

Waiting for the other players and/or NPCs to start noticing stuff or looking for explanations.

As much as I want Kythas to run up and down the beach going "Who left all of our gear and this other junk all piled up?" "Where the heck is our boat?" and "Where is everyone else?" I'll force myself to wait, albeit, impatiently for my PbP compatriots to join in the Q&A fun!!!

Besides... I have two full bottles of rum and a pretty half-elf to keep myself entertained in the downtime. *wicked grin*

On another note...

DM Patcher:
Still watching the Kingmaker thread, I'd wager Imma Stone is an upcoming young actress of some note in Brevoy and Iohn Stone is well regarded for his floating rocks?

Yes? No? Maybe?

Kythas:

Bwahaha. I didn't even think about that. I thought of Jon Snow from a Song of Ice and Fire, but I thought Iohn Snow would be too obvious, so I went with Stone instead - as for Imma Stone, I didn't realise there was an actress called Emma Stone until after you pointed it out.

I'm curious, how many of you are attending Gen Con this year?
