Just don't use your Mindfl*@r powers to delete the posts from everyone's minds!
Golarion`s aboleth pretty much cover every ground that mindflayers had, and are much more scarier than any mindflayer.
The cool thing about it would be that those players who have fought mindflayers in the past, or know them like the back of their hands would be in for a surprise.
Plus, star spawn have to grow from something.
Contaminated people. Humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, ect.
Developing Starspawn make a good template that can effect any sentient living thing.
