You make no progress identifying any of the potions or items, but within the scroll tube you find a vellum scroll scrawled with profane sigils and runes.

Anyone with Abyssal as a language can decipher the runes with no rolls, if you don't have Abyssal you may attempt a DC 15 linguistics check to figure it out.

This mask allows the wearer to use cause fear once per day as a standard action. Activation is through speaking a command word in abyssal, and the mask must be worn to be used.

I'm gonna be at gen con for the next few days, but feel free to continue posting. you guys have the upper tiers to explore or you can go back through the hallway and head back to the aquatic exhibit.

Got Ultimate Combat. Only one change effecting my gunslinger. I lose Bravery (+1 will save versus fear) and Gain Nimble +1. Nimble gives me a +1 dodge to AC when in light or no armor and an additional +1 at 6/10/14/18 for a max of +5

Nearing the top of the stairs, your senses are assailed by a supernatural sensation of unease and tension. You draw your gaze upwards, and notice two figures shrouded in darkness overhanging the fourth ledge. One shape is taller than the other, but both are dangling precariously over the ledge and are illuminated by a silver silhouette from the nearest unblocked window.

The chamber is silent once more, and the birds within the cages are still paralyzed and motionless.

Roderick's torch sheds 30 feet of illumination, plus 30 feet of faint illumination past that. With a DC 10 perception check, any character can observe the 2 figures in greater detail.

DC 10 Perception:

The figure is recognizable as a blood demon, dripping rivulets of acidic blood from multiple wounds. It stands at the edge of the uppermost bannister, 30-40 feet above you. The demon is clutching a helpless gnome by the shoulders, suspended precipitously over the walkway's final edge. The demon's brow is furrowed, and it is clear to you that the demon is forcing mental contact with the entrapped gnome. The demon does not notice you immediately, having concentrated all of its mental faculties on its gnomish prey. This is the same blood demon you encountered before, and it is now obvious to you that these demons are here for a reason.

Perception:

I'll relay what's happening to the others. I then Use a Grit to Deadeye (Make my attack Touch up to 40' at a -2) and Shoot the one with the gnome (I reckon he's F'd so he's better off if I shoot the demon and he drops and can maybe get healed, or if he dies and the demon doesn't get the knowledge he wants) as my standard action. My move is to go back down the stairs 15'.
