I have been unable to find the core classes' ability score requirements, or "key ability scores" for lack of a better term. Have the key ability scores for the core classes not been included in the core rulebook? Are they in the book and I have missed them? I own the 4th printing if this helps, and thank you to those who take the time to respond; I have searched the forums and haven't been able to find this, either. Thank you!

As a note, the ability score requirement was done away with, with the change over from AD&D to D&D 3.5

That isn't to say that there aren't important abilities for each class. A wizard with a 18 int is going to be much more effective than one with an 11 int. A wizard with a 9 int is entirely useless. It's still a legal character, though.

I dunno. I can see a melee fighter character deciding that he really wanted to have a cool pet like the party wizard has, and taking a one-level dip into wizard, just for the familiar. (Oh, and the ability to use wands.)
Could be some roleplaying fun!

It's entirely possible to have an effective strength 5 fighter (yay Dervish Dance!) or to have a 1 level dip of wizard for wand use even if your Int is 8. A lot of stats that are classically core to the various classes can be radically different from what you'd think they'd be depending on the build of the character.
