Stigmata Curse for Oracle

Homebrew and House Rules

I have a player who wanted a Stigmata curse for his Oracle. This is what we came up with:

1st level - Every time the PC casts a spell, he bleeds 1 HP per round for as many rounds as he has Oracle levels. This can be stopped with a healing spell or heal check. This does not stack with itself. Each time a new spell is cast, the bleed duration restarts.

5th level - The Oracle is immune to any other form of bleed damage.

10th level - The Oracle automatically stabilizes after going below 0 HP.

15th level - While bleeding from the Stigmata, any creature of opposite alignment that touches, grapples, or strikes the Oracle with a natural attack takes D3 damage from the holy blood.

Any ideas, variations, criticisms, insults, or threats?

It should be Spell Level + 1 rounds. Minor magic causes minor issues, major magic major issues. Otherwise, eventually he'll take more damage from casting a cure spell than he can recover from it.

I'd make it 1 pt of bleed damage per round of bleed damage the oracle is currently on the hook for. That is, if he's cast 3 3rd level spells in the last three rounds, he'd still have 6 rounds of bleeding left, so the monk grappling him would take 6 pts of bleed damage. Things immune to bleed damage would be immune to this damage. I'd also make it so it only affects those that come into physical contact, a spear or sword attack shouldn't take damage.

The first lvl needs to have a benefit. Clouded vision gives blind sight, deaf gives a perception bonus, etc.

yeah, what I'd recomend is bumping everything down a level teir, and coming up with a new top of the line item. maybe something that inmproves cure spells

I'm going to work on version 2 of this and I plan on fleshing this out quite a bit. Definitely needs more benefits.

Any updates? Here's a thought:

Casting a spell gives the Oracle Bleed 1 for a number of rounds equal to the spell level. The Oracle heals 1 more point of damage with every Cure spell, and half the damage of any spell cast is either Holy or Unholy (untyped) damage.

I'll think about the higher level benefits later...

Since he's taking continual damage, he'll need to roll concentration every round to cast spells.

Is that intentional?

That can be the first level benefit, you don't have to make concetration checks against damage, but you still have to against ather interruptions.

Okay, I'm looking at the ideas in this thread, and comparing it to the Holy Vindicator's powers. Here's a possible way to run the curse:

Casting a spell gives the oracle Bleed 1 for a number of rounds equal to the spell level. If the oracle casts another spell while bleeding from the curse, the duration of the bleed is increased by the level of the spell cast. The oracle automatically succeeds at concentration checks for damage sustained, and adds Bleed and Stabilize to her list of spells known.

At 5th level, either Cure or Inflict spells are automatically empowered as if by the Empower Spell feat, except that they do not take up a higher level slot. The choice of Cure or Inflict is the same as the choice for bonus spells made at first level, and cannot change.

At 10th level, either Cure or Inflict spells are automatically maximized as if by the Maximize Spell feat, except that they do not take up a higher level slot. This replaces the Empowering effect granted at 5th level. The choice of Cure or Inflict is the same as the choice for bonus spells made at first level, and cannot change.

At 15th level, the oracle is immune to other sources of blood drain or bleed damage. The oracle still suffers bleed damage whenever casting a spell.

I think the perma empower/maximize is a little too crazy. maybe a flat bonus to healing spells maybe more reasonable, like 5th: add charisma mod to cure/inflict spells, 10th add cha score to all cure/inflict spells

While I'm as starved for new Oracle content as anyone I think your player could get what he needs by using the Wasting curse.

Just replace "Your body is slowly rotting away" with "Your body has one or more open, bleeding wounds".
