I've shot guns, hunting rifles only, handguns are restricted up here in Canada

Ok so you'd be aware that the firearms can kick like mules, and as such the smaller bodyframe would make getting a proper firing position more difficult with a 'normal' sized weapon. You could use a smaller weapon of similar calibre, but you'd trade off accuracy, or you could lower the calibre to improve handling, but then reduce the stopping power...

Wait, really? "Restricted"? Does that mean banned? Or just really difficult to get a hold off?

Also. Feels good to be American. Nothing against my brothers to the North... Just... really puts into perspective.

This country is a lot like Canada in that guns are heavily restricted.

Pistols are available, but MUST be left at the range, and there is a lot further restriction if yuo want anything other that a .22 target pistol.

You CAN have rifles, but only bolt-action, and only if you are a farmer or registered hunter (and then need to be in gun safes etc)

Ditto shotguns, but it wont be a pump.

Kind of off topic but restricted means restricted. Technically we only have firearms for two reasons in Canada: hunting and sport. Self protection isn't a recognized reason for owning a firearm and for that reason handguns, which are usually known as being for personal protection, are much harder to acquire. I believe it's possible, you'd need a restricted fire arms license for sure, but as far as I know there isn't an outright ban.

Personally I feel safer. I'm sure criminals can still get their hands on guns, I know the drug trade sees a lot of weapons smuggled into Canada from the US, but the average nut on the street isn't carrying.

Yes but not all of them do, most have what I'd call an average kick, and honestly most of the weapons I'd fired could be fired by a child who's been trained to do so. I have no idea what sort of force the average black powder weapon gives off but I'm willing to bet that it's less then a .308 (which is a nice gun to have if you're in bear country).
