Keggan looks at the Gnomes hand after he cleans it off and spits in his own and shakes his hand.
"You have to stick by traditional no matter how weird it is, and now to finalize it with another drink thats my tradition! haha
Keggan pulls out his wineskin and takes a drink then offers it to his new oath brother Arnie.
"Hey Love if you want to take a crack at disarming that trap I can always give you a few pointers. haha"

in the immortal words of Faran "Well, I turn my back for two hours and there are 14 posts here!". Or at least close there is 13 haha. Anyway I have Disable Device +17 to help aid Love.

"Aye Aye Captian!"

Keggan does a salute with his wineskin and goes over to the others, waiting to see what happens.

With a sideways glance at Bottle, Molasbar remarks It's not the worst advice I've heard today.

Lets do our best to make sure its not just my words that are immortal, hm?

Faran waits just outside of the cave, around the corner in case some sort of blast comes out the passage, but ready to go dashing into the cave to help if something comes out after the trapsmith. "Ready when you are. Just think, you are about to start your legend as the man who made the Tomb safe."

Disable Device Check

Spoiler:

1d20 + 29 ⇒ (13) + 29 = 42

You pull out your tools and set to work. Slowly, you slide a very thin, flat dagger between the plate and the floor tile it is set into. once in position, you pry the plate up, just enough to see Small Rod attached to the plate, which attachs further down in the ground to a larger set of Gears. You then insert a flat saw under the plate and begain to cut a section out of the rod. This way, if the plat eis stepped on, the rod will not depress, engaging the Gears. After a few moments of work, the rod is severed, and the trap is disabled

KN:Knowledge engineering check

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
(Doh)

You're not 100% sure what the trap was designed to do, But you are Glad is it disableed

I am under the impression that the Tomb of Horrors just has a bad reputation and the plate is simply there to automatically open the doors.

That would be our luck, but dont worry between your blade and my bombs we always have a key hehe

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Love carefully gathers and stows his equipment, standing he steps onto the plate. When nothing happens he stands a little taller and walks to the door with the visible hinges.

"Pressure plate is safe, checking the door."

Check the door for locks and traps. Skill +31/+32 if stone is involved.

Once closer to the Doors, you realize that they are a Fake! Finely crafted and well hidden, but no match for your keen Dwarven eyes up close!

Anyone else intrested in making a ENG> check for the Device, just to see what is was?

If you let me do it untrained it would be +5 just to take a crack at it. You peaked my intrest Mr. DM

Can't, would be higher than a DC 10.

My guess:
It drops or slides out a wall sealing the exit. Then either something unplesant happens to you or you simply starve. This beat out "the ceiling caves in" by a coin toss. Hope that roll is good want to know if I was close.

Note for the DM. In future I will be bypassing rather than disabling all traps. Trapsmiths can do this with no penality to the check.

Just as I thought, but heck had to give it a chance. Would there be anyway disable device would help me figure that out?

So Captain Love, whats your assetment on the doors anything wrong with them?"

Keggan is just at the entrance waiting for the okay sign, so he is shouting a little bit. Then will wait sipping on his wine waiting for a response.

Just to be on the safe side check the fake doors for triggers or more traps. It could be the old gem in the china rabbit ploy.

"Odd, Doors are fake. Could be something here...."

"Start looking for another entrance, with you in a second"

Explain Bypass vs. Disable pls

Details, spoilered for length:

from the PRD for Disable Device

"A rogue who beats a trap's DC by 10 or more can study the trap, figure out how it works, and bypass it without disarming it. A rogue can rig a trap so her allies can bypass it as well."

Basically it allowes mt to 'turn off' the trap without breaking it.

The trapmaster feature if needed, also from the PRD:

Trap Master (Ex): At 8th level, whenever a trapsmith disarms a trap using Disable Device, she can bypass it even if her check did not exceed the DC by 10 or more. If it is a magic trap that allows specific creatures to pass it without danger, she can modify which creatures it allows to pass, adding her allies and restricting enemies if she desires. This ability replaces improved uncanny dodge.

I want to do this because I would not put it past the designer to have a trap that has to go off in order allow progress into the tomb. Bypassing the trap will allow us to trigger it later if we need to. Make sense?

Molasbar will take a look to see if he can determine what the pressure plate did.

Engineering 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35

While we are waiting, Keggan is going look around on the ground and the walls near the entrance to see if there are any old tracks or traces of people pushing on the wall. Then when Love says its ok to move will check the rest.Of course I ignore the recent tracks made by the group.

Survival Check:1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

Arnie watches Love's performance raptly from the mouth of the entrance. When he announces it disarmed, Arnie applauds wildly.

"Bravo, bravo! I must say that is quite a bit better solution than my past traveling companions and I used to use. We would generally just draw straws and have someone walk about 10 yards ahead of everyone else. The upside of course is that I'm pretty sure we found pretty much every trap that way. The downsides were pretty severe though."

Faran looks back to Arnie, raising a brow for a moment as he explains the tactic, unable to help but glance down at the gnome's leg and wonder if this method of exploration doesn't explain some things about his difficult with mobility.

"Most of my experiences with traps are quite different than all that. It has been rare for me to encounter such complex mechanical traps, normally its more along the lines of boar poles, or bear traps. Maybe snares or oil that could be lit to cut off one part of your forces from the rest. On the field, putting such effort into simply removing one or two foes isn't as productive a way to spend your time as it is when you are guarding a location against a small number of hostiles."

He shrugs at his assessment and then gives a bit of a grin. "I must admit that I much prefer Love's method, thus far. Though of Molasbar has skill in the way I saw earlier, I can imagine that he can bring in beings that are quite capable of 'disarming' anything Love isn't through your method. Likely we won't even have to draw straws."

I do still think that having a decent enough bag of tricks that you can pull out weighty animals, and you know, not having a heart, is a pretty effective way to clear out traps as well.

Interesting perspectives. In my experience, you send apprentices or summoned minions ahead and see what happens to them. A rather scientific approach.

Sacrificing minions! Is there any problem it won't solve?!?

When you step on the plate, a Block of Stone starts to Slide iver the entrance, blocking you in. The ORG, Mod says:

"tell the players the room starts to shake, then Start to silently count to 10, If they players don't say they are moving out fo the room by the time you reach 0, they are trapped."

Pretty HarshI was going to give you an INT, if you roleld higher than 10, you acted before the block moved, lower than 10, you had to race against the block to get out alive.

"That works for some types of trap but it can cause it's own problems. for example if this trap does what I think it does you would find your minion, and perhaps your goal, on the wrong side of several tons of rock. The decision to trigger a trap must be made as carefully as the decision to disable one."

Turning to Happy: "Pfaugh, those are hardly traps. No style no craftsmanship. Useful in their place I suppose but not to be compared to a lock that will not open, even with the proper key, unless it is bathed in sunlight, or to a tiled floor filled with so many pressure plates that it can tell the shape of your foot and the length of your stride. Heaven help you if either is wrong."

"But I rattle on. If this place can tell us nothing more we should find the real way in."

Assuming the check on the doors was fruitless Love leaves the passage and scans the hill face for likely placed for another buried entrance. He starts on the far side and works towards the center.

Right, just how the trap works, it Did not go off.

As you Search on the other side of the hill, you see the drit isn't packed hard, as if it was covering an opening

How far is this point from the other passage? Trying to get an idea of scale here."

"Bottle, Happy, Arnie, Mister Brown, come over here. I think I found something!"

Love opens his pack and removes a pickaxe, two spades, a bundle of Iron spikes and a sledgehammer.

Check the area of loose soil to get an idea of it's size and to see if there will be any problems digging here. Looking for signs of an unstable slope or animal dens/nests/hives etc.

Faran comes over to join love at the looser dirt, letting him look it over as he sheathes his sword and brings out his own spade. "Ahh, here is something I can really help with. You may have the eyes, but I have the back."

"Love smiles. Good man Happy. Right tool for the right job."

Onve the slope ect. check is done.

"Right every one. Two bodies on the working face. One person filling sacks." Here he pulls two large empty sacks out of his pack. "And two bodies to empty them."

Love picks up a spade. "Call a break if you get tired. No point in injuring ourselves. The tomb isn't going anywhere."

Once we are organized Love falls in beside Happy and starts attacking the loose dirt.

Molasbar will hold his sack where Faran shovel directly into it. Once it is full, he'll step aside so another can step up to Faran. He'll find a spot nearby of lower ground that they can fill in some, making sure that it is at least a few yards away from the circle he drew earlier. He will make sure everyone knows to keep that circle clear of any sort of debris. I am using that ground as a familiar, clear, nearby location in case I need to teleport us out of the tomb. Any obstructions could be dangerous. He'll order the unseen servant to help clear for as long as the spell lasts.

Keggan puts away his wineskin and pulls out his cold iron shovel out of his bag. Then gingerly goes over to help Love and Happy.

"Drinking and Digging its my youth all over again"

Keggan starts to sing "You dig a home, you dig a life, then you get drink and wife!!!!"

With a untrained perform skill of -3 thats got to be beutiful, just for fun 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (14) - 3 = 11

Well played sir.

A griffon circles low over the mound bearing a regal knight of a small stature, his gleaming breastplate reflecting the rays of the midday sun. As the feathered steed comes to a landing not far from you, the halfling knight dismounts with some grace, displaying his obvious prowess at riding. Approaching cautiously, the halfling smiles... "Good day sirs, I'm Lord Cobbledarn Meadowlark, friends call me Cobb. I've traveled here from my hunting lands to the south. Tell me, why are you all digging? Have you found a secret entrance to the dungeon rumored to be in this area? If so, let me be any assistance I can. I haven't a spade, but I'm willing to take a shift."

As the party digs, Cobb will make small talk and get to know the names of everyone if possible.

"Not sure, Love said dig so I dig."
As he responds he turns to the little knight and grabs his wineskin to take a long drink. Then offers to Meadowlark.

"Names Keggan "Bottle" Brewhammer, Brewmaster extraordinaire."
Then motions to the extra shovel.
"If you get bored you can help us dig, I will let the rest of the school maa'rms and Arnie introduce themselves, haha welcome to the party! CHEERS!!!!"
Keggan takes another big drink and offers it once more to the little archer and then goes back to digging and singing

"You crack a rock, You crack a skull, You fill the cart til its full!"
1d20 - 3 ⇒ (7) - 3 = 4 Now thats the stuff hehe

"Welcome, welcome! Name's Arnie. It's good to see someone else of a reasonable stature." He pretends to lower his voice and says in a stage whisper, "If you ask me, being at such a high elevation starves these tall folks brains of air. Poor benighted fellows. Must not be all there to choose to go into this place."

He chuckles at his own wit for a second, before pulling a shovel out of his pack. He eyes the digging for a second before saying, "Maybe we could use some help here again." He begins casting, and summons a creature exactly like Molasbar did earlier.

casting summon monster II to get an earth elemental to help with the digging.

As Bottle offers his wineskin, Cobb politely refuses with a gesture of his hand. "No thanks Bottle, I wanna stay sharp for this and ale goggles usually make a dungeon look much more desirable than it truly is... And besides, I must admit my vice is the pipe. I've got a few scraps of Flayleaf I've been saving for the fire after a long day of dungeoneering. Widow's Web, Red Wizard, and Dragonfruit just to name a few of my favorite hybrids. Do you partake?"

Grabbing the extra shovel Cobbledarn begins to dig as the discussion between he and Bottle continues. "Sure is good to see a merry band of adventurers have come to disarm such a deadly dungeon. If I haven't already said it you all deserve high praise for your courage in this endeavor. A dungeon like this one could attract and potentially kill many would be thrill seeking innocents... Better to disarm it now and save lives. Blessings of Erastil be upon us!"

Faran stops his shoveling long enough to look back to the newcomer, wiping the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. "Well met. I'm Faran. I suppose I'm the muscle for this endeavor. I do believe you are right, the skill I have seen in the others already is impressive. I have little doubt this tomb will be rendered safe."

Male Elf Wizard 3 | HP:29/29 | F:+4 R+6 W+4 | CMD 14 | AC:14 T:14 FF:10 | Init+5 | Perc +11 |

Welcome. Don't put anything in that circle over there; it is for emergency teleports. Grab a shovel or a sack.

"No boy I don't partake in the weed, that stuff will mess with your mind."
After Keggan says that he takes a drink of wine.
"But I thank ye for the offer though!" Then he points to Molasbar. "That charming fellow is called Molasbar, or as we refer to him as Mr. Brown take your pick haha! Anyway he will warm up to yah once we help get him some treasure haha!"
He gives Molasbar a friendly smile and goes back to his last song.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

"Well met" *grunt* "Lord Cobble."

"Names 'Ernst' but call me 'Love', everyone does."

*shovel*

"We found what looks looks like a false entrance on the other side of the hill."

*dig*

"Lovely trap back there."

*shovel*

"Seals you in behind twenty feet of solid stone."
"Might let out out eventually, doubt it.

*dig*

"Arnie, Save the juice if you can. A little sweat is good for us. Might need the magic if this is another trap."

DM any progress?

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Love takes the bridge

Ears do sing and Noses burrow
Tusks to war and Feet to furrow

Wars will burn and stain the soil
Far above the long beards toil

You dig a home you dig a life
You dig for gold and drink and wife.

Over to you

Keggan perkss up after he hears his fellow dwarf sings
Bottle takes over

"No mountain can beat our brawn
We can dig straight til dawn"

"Through the mountain's stitches
Lies the earth's riches"

"When your Pick hits da core
The rocks will spill the ore"

"You dig a home, You dig a life
You dig for gold, drink, and wife"

Everybody sing along haha!

Faran listens to the two going back and forth in the tune as he digs, pausing in his shoveling long enough to wipe sweat from his brow and catch a breath, looking between love and keggan before saying plainly. "I don't sing." With that he returns to his digging.

Keggan looks over to Faran then stops singing for a moment,
"I know, I know many are jealous of me voice hehe!"
He stabs his shovel into the ground and rests his foot on it. Then leans towards Faran with a crooked smile
"Don't Worry Happy, no one will judge you for humming haha!"
Keggan goes back to digging and singing after the laugh. And debates in his head if he should speed this digging up with a bomb.

I had to hold back to not put a "be" in that phrase haha

"Got in in one." Love replies smiling.

"Far from sky we Longbeards delve
Rock and shale and sand and water

Fill the mine with working song
Dig to court the foreman's daughter

Far from sun we carve our way
Our beards are as long as our backs are strong

Caring not for night or day
Diging for ore, and for clan, and for ourselves."
