Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

whispering"alright Orik, grab your gear and make it quick."

"Much obliged."

Assuming no-one has any objections, he steps back through the door, before turning and entering the room. He then starts strapping on the shoulder and elbow plates.

Shadow Lodge

Galstok, from the top of the stairs, you hear yapping goblin voices, and the sound of many stamping feet, in unison.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

"Sounds like company has arrived." With that Galstok moves back down the hall in sight of the stairs.

Galstok will be ready to charge as soon as something comes down.

Liberty's Edge

"Sounds like more of them than us"

"Do we want to do this?"

<nods back to the open doors>

Male Gnome Cleric 2 (Nethys)

"They're not shouting about us....they're angry about...pickles?"

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

"Ambush? We can hit them from a couple of directions. Some of us in the room, wait for them to pass, hit them in the rear, rest then charge in from below."

Liberty's Edge

"Let's do it."

Tregar backs into the doorway to the junk room. The door is left slightly ajar.

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

Sephird enters Orik's room and leaves that door slightly ajar.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

Realizing the sudden change of plans, Galstok hurries over to the room to the left of hall leaving the door open enough to see.

Sephird Brookside wrote:

"What the hell?"

Orik continues to strap his armour on.

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

"Company comng, keep it quiet, and prove yourself when the time comes."

Sephird has the door closed, but not latched, he is watching Orik, if Orik finishes with his armor, then he will tell Orik to watch the corridor.

Shadow Lodge

Looks like time for Initiative.

The tramping feet start down the stairs, in time to the shouts of their leader. This is the first time you have witnessed any kind of organisation among them.

None of the PCs can be surprised, the goblins have yet to check for surprise, but will do once they enter the feast hall.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

Initiative:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Liberty's Edge

Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Male Gnome Cleric 2 (Nethys)

Initiative 1d20 ⇒ 19

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Shadow Lodge

Valoria's incommunicado, so her initiative is 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.

Shadow Lodge

New map is HERE; I've placed everyone as I understand it.

If anyone has objections, let me know.

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

Which way were the goblins heard from? top of the map? If so, I had myself in Orik's room, which looks like the "O".

Shadow Lodge

Got that; I'll amend the map accordingly.
I thought you'd slipped back out.

Shadow Lodge

The goblins come stamping down the stairs; ahead of the first you see a hairless dog-like beast with prominent incisors, leashed and sniffing at the ground.

His handler is looking about, suspiciously, but does not appear to have spotted any of you yet. More goblins are at his back, jostling for position. Two are in sight, but more are obviously shoving from behind.

I'll leave it up to you if you want to attack the front of the column, or let them past. The longer the lead goblins have, the more chances they'll have to not be surprised.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

From what I can see, where does it look like they are heading?

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

Please bot me, I will be traveling and have limited internet capacity through next Thursday

Shadow Lodge

That sounds dirty...

The toothy creature seems to have picked up a scent, and moves toward the east exit that leads to the junk room, where it paws at the door.

The handler is stood by it, looking at the door.
Three other goblins have spilled into the room at the foot of the stairs, and at least two others are still on the stairs, bunched up, waiting for a space.

Liberty's Edge

"Ah, b+$+$++s!"

Shadow Lodge

All the goblins appear to still be unaware of you.

All the PCs can act in the surprise (half) round.

Initiative

Ensu 19
Galstok 15
Tregar 7
Sephird 6
Valoria 5

Shadow Lodge

Galstok, you recall you've seen one of these 'dogs' before, at the festival.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

Assuming he can throw open the door the rest of his as part of doing the standard action charge, just let me know if he can not.

Seeing the beast had caught the scent of one his companions, Galstok bursts out of the room into the pack of goblins with a savage yell; earthbreaker swinging.

He will attempt to reach the handler or dog but will take one of the others if he can not.

Attack(PA):1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage(PA):2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 + 3 = 16

Shadow Lodge

I'll get the revised map up soon.
Normally, opening doors is counted as move action, but I don't agree with that, in every case. You've got yourself ready, and have your foot or elbow ready to shove it open.
You've still to cross the distance, which would normally prevent an attack, but in this case, there's a goblin within a 5' step.

He is blatantly slain by the blow, which splatters his companions in gore.

Male Gnome Cleric 2 (Nethys)

Before Galstok moves in, it's Ensu to go;...

Taking aim at one of the goblins at the foot of the stairs, Ensu lets loose with his crossbow.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 6

The goblin falls back on the steps, groaning.
Another goblin face is revealed behind him on the stairwell.

Liberty's Edge

"Ugly bastard!"

Stepping back, he looses his arrow at the beast.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

It hits the door frame by the creature's head, causing it to 'bark', or rather, make a squeaking cough.

Shadow Lodge

Sephird hears the action begin, and heads back round the corridor, ready to enter combat next round.

Shadow Lodge

Valoria starts to chant under her breath, but the effects (if any) are not apparent.

"Cayden's balls. You barely get time to s&!# in this place."

Orik tightens the strap on his elbow guard, and picks up his sword.

I be back from trip on Thursday.

Valoria will cast mage armour when she knows they will definitely will be going into a large battle.

If you want, you can assume you already cast it, since it lasts 2 hours.

I was going to throw a summoned critter up the stairs for you.

Oki. I go with you suggestion.

Shadow Lodge

NEW MAP IS UP.

Round 1 Initiative

Goblins 22
Ensu 19
Galstok 15
Goblin Ranger 11
Tregar 7
Sephird 6
Valoria 5
Goblin Dog 5

Shadow Lodge

Two of the goblins skip to the side, and attempt to circle round Galstok, but don't quite make it all the way to flank.
You have one directly east, one directly northwest.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

One charges the nursery door, and attempts to force his way in.

CMB 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13

A fourth dithers on the stairs, as if to flee, but someone or something makes him change his mind. He steps cautiously down into the room, and makes his way to the southeast corner, where he holds his dogslicer ready.

The nursery door gets shoved open, the pusher does not quite have the momentum to carry on going, but the latecomer takes the chance to slip within.

No AoO from Ensu, as he had a crossbow readied, and the goblin just appears from out of cover, but on the upside, the goblin is unable to attack either.

Male Gnome Cleric 2 (Nethys)

Ensu steps back, draws back his crossbow, and looses it.

The goblin tries to prevent this;

AoO 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

but his aim is slightly off.

The bolt flies out;

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

But he skids on some discarded worms, sending the bolt into one of the cages, pinning a whelp to the wall.

A sudden, howling screech comes down the stairs, from a previously unseen enemy. All those who speak Goblin can tell this is a female voice, but one filled with an uncharacteristically forceful quality, as if from one used to being obeyed.

"Kill the pickle-thieves!
Smash their brain-pans!
Scoop out the jelly for your bread and jam!"

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, she points at Galstok with her jagged blade.

"You! Fool! Drop that stick and grovel to me!"

You feel your feet sliding from under you, and your grip on your hammer failing, as though your palms are covered in reeking vinegary sweat.

Reflex save!

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

Grease I assume? I think this might be the second time I have actually seen it used in the ten years I have been playing, and so of course I fail it. :) If it is grease what did she actually target the floor or the weapon? Or you ruling both?

Reflex:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Shadow Lodge

I thought it was you and all your gear, but apparently not.
I have seen it thrown around a lot, but mostly to take out the floor from under people.
I have a kenku NPC in Age of Worms, who's followed the PCs in a vendetta from level 4-12, and still loves to cast it opportunistically at the most awkward moment, send them plummetting down stairs, off ledges, into the mouths of giant worms, into pools of mind flayer tadpoles, etc. before legging it. I think he's one of the most hated NPCs in the whole campaign, more so than the actual BBEGs.
The choice of object or floor makes it rather less of a PITA.
I think she'll go for the earthbreaker, to disarm you.
You do appear to have other weapons, but the kukris are smaller and less dangerous, and they'll need to be drawn.
I think the boar spear would be strapped up, and not available for a simple draw?

Shadow Lodge

Galstok recovers himself, but his earthbreaker hits the flags, narrowly missing his toe.
The two adjacent goblins titter, and crouch to spring.

Galstok next.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

Sorry about that. Thanks for covering my dropping it. I thought I had hit submit before leaving for work.

I guess I never actually grabbed and wrote down Galstok grabbing the cestus. This will remind him I'm sure.

Galstok lets out a curse as his weapon slips from his grasp. He almost starts to reach down for the handle before realizing that it was coated in whatever it was that made him drop it.

Quickly he realized he never put on Kavrik's cestus. He five foots to his left and draws out his blade slashing at the goblin next to him.

Attack(PA):1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 1 = 18
Damage(PA):1d4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7

Shadow Lodge

The goblin hits the floor, clutching his wound.

The other realises you are still dangerous with even a small knife, and stops laughing.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

And that is why any weapon user should have multiple weapons. :)

Galstok gives a toothy grin at the creature's realization.
