Sovereign Court

I am converting all of these to PAthfinder for my game, and i would like to know which monsters form MM 1 to MM5 are product identity, so i could convert them first.

I have already converted Mind flayers, Grell and Beholders.
I thank you in advance :D

LINK to DnD v3.5 SRD. Any monster in that is OGL, all others are not.

Q: Why are some monsters missing from this site?

Not really a complete listing, since he's asking about MM1-5. Most of the MM1 is OGL, as well as most of the ELH monsters. Basically, everything in MM2-5 is non-OGL. Except a few that are, mostly those that were put into the OGL by the Tome of Horrors. Only there's going to be a Tome of Horrors Complete (PFRPG) so you might want to just consider that instead of putting in the work to converting those monsters. There's also the fact that some of the monsters in later volumes were based on folklore, mythology, etc. The exact WotC versions might be (rather shakily) considered IP, but the concept as a whole is not.

All in all, I really don't think that there's a substantial enough difference with the majority of monsters to justify a full conversion, when you can just do a quick estimate of CMB and CMD for an on-the-fly conversion.

On final question, when you say you've converted beholders, do you just mean the default beholder? Because in some of the other books (notably Lords of Madness) there are a LOT of different types of beholder-variants, ranging from beholder mages to undead beholders to hive mothers. The mind flayers also get a few variants as well.

Everything from MM1 except the list quoted by Sizik is on the d20srd.org website and is open content.

Two monsters from MM2, the Razorboar and the Scorpionfolk are open content. They were originally made by a 3rd party publisher, and included in MM2 as an example of how to properly use content from another company under the OGL.

Everything in MM3,4,and 5 is Closed Content.

I converted the MM1 Mind flayer and MM1 Beholder...i have been working around to convert mind flayers of thoon (which are awesome in my books) and other beholderkin, but just didn't come around to it as i led my party in Age of Worms...i have converted several monsters from 2nd edition, but most of them ended up in Bestiary 2. I have also made some monsters on my own. And i am proud of how i fixed Bodaks, i like my version much better than the Bestiary 2 version.

Interested in anything particular?

I forgot about grell! Nicely done.

Check out the Netbook of forbidden Lore.

Quote:

This book is a translation of several famous “IP-locked” monsters into Pathfinder-compatible forms. They are NOT Open Content; those wishing to use them in anything other than their own home games had best understand the consequences. These are simply conversions for Pathfinder GMs who wish to get full use out of their 3.5-compatible monsters. The names were altered, and no descriptive text is given as to appearance, habitant, or personality. If you’re using this document, you should already be familiar with the beasts inside.

This document is not endorsed by Wizards of the Coast or Paizo.
