I love this thread, it's heartwarming.

I'd love to hear what NewbieGirl has done and how it went.

Many, many thanks to EVERYONE for their input!!! We've had another session since my last post and here's how goes...most notably my player earned the MOST XP YAY!! I really honestly don't know what I did, but I'm going to try my best to explain....

Had a nice 1 on 1 with the DM (hub) about how I felt he may be a little harsh on the newer players. Defended myself and others in the group. Seems to have worked in my favor and at least one of the other 2 new players in the group (the 3rd was being a douchebag and even I expected him to do poorly). I felt odd talking with him about how I felt because I truly don't want him to feel like he is playing favorites, but at the same time it is my responsibility (as the person closest to him) to explain how the newer people were feeling playing.

I LOVE my character since I've leveled up :) I can see many many potential things to come for my awesome player! I will be changing to a Breast plate (thank you for the suggestion) as soon as the setting allows.

That entire flashlight in the dark explanation has made the smite evil/detect evil so much more clear to me now!!! Thank you to those who spent time explaining that to me a bit more. I've yet to use my smite evil yet...but now that I know how to use it I'm sure I will use it at the best time possible!

I KNEW before posting that I would be putting my extra point in CHA next level, but seeing what others have written makes me question if that is the right choice at the moment (but I'm going to anyway). Mostly the definition of how my character (though "old" in human terms) is "young" has given me hope that there's still plenty of time to develop my character.

Yeah, the wizard, he's a weakling, and an Elf, from the same homeland as myself...we've developed our backstory. He has negative charisma and every time he opens his mouth he gets us in trouble! BUT that being said we have a connection because I've known him for soooo long. Actually, he as a person has been a super huge help to me personally in playing. Whatever I dare not ask my husband I do dare ask my elven comrade :)

Again, thanks so much for all the help from everyone! Glad to feel so welcomed into the world of Pathfinder! I look forward to learning more from everyone...and hopefully someday I'll be able to give my 2 cents also :)

x2

I wanted to help, because I identified so much with Newbiegirl's situation, but I'm too new and uninformed myself to have anything to add. I learned a lot from the explanations people posted, too!

Glad things are going better at the table!

After reading this post I felt like I came home...

wow.. its like a story...

Closet nerd girl needs help.

Nerds come to rescue

Snow white rides off with prince charming.

Disney, let the magic happen

I'm glad she is playing though :):):) after 20 years of playing and 15 of DMing its nice to see a girl get into the Game.

WELL DONE ALL +1

OK, definitely not a closet nerd...just a nerd.

That being said...roll initiative :)

99% of my chars have a +10 init mod by level 6 :P I like going first :)

This is the coolest thread ever.

Sorry I wasn't around to offer any help, but I'm a dumb paladin anyway. Though quite wise. :) It sounds like everyone has helped with basic mechanics considerably, and it doesn't really sound like you are needing any kind of help with roleplaying your paladin (and making sure you adhere to your code), but I will say this as something for you to keep in mind, lest you begin to feel too constrained by your lawful goodness:

There are numerous ways to meet the letter of your paladin code.

Wouldn't a real paladin be more concerned with the spirit of the code?

Yes, the letter of the code is important, but trying to circumvent restrictions by twisting the letter of any set of laws sounds pretty Lawful Evil.

Depends on their intent for doing so really. Since we're talking about a paladin here, I'd imagine what DP is suggesting would be more like Spock and Kirk doing things 'not quite by book' but (yet still in a way that could be rationalized) for the purpose of achieving some greater good. :)

Yes, thank you, Laithoron. :) I actually do mean that ... although the example of the paladin who follows the letter of the code, lacks compassion, and is not overly concerned with the spirit is a pretty standard variant as well.

Some paladins can be very political when it comes to "interpreting" the code.

There are a lot of flavors of adhering to the code's spirit, as well.

It sounds to me like from what you've said about your character, putting the point is CHA is definitely not a bad choice. We can debate all day about whether it's the *best* choice, but it certainly won't do any harm!

And congratulations! Good luck with the rest of the game!

In my game i have a palidin built much like yours.

except instead of STR she has CHR. let me tell you......

with the 26 CHR she has.. and the measly 20 STR... She is NASTY... combine with the Two WP feat tree completed ( u have a high dex might be a good way)

If she full attacks evil.... IT DIES...and her high CHR ensures she hits with smite, AND AC goes through the roof, AND her low save is insain high for this level.

Maybe i am late, but i have a few thoughts and suggestions... hope both will be useful:

First of all, it is the DM(GM)'s job to treat all of you equally, and fairly, and to entertain you, and, especially, to help beginner players. It is one of the most rewarding GM duties in my opinion.

You should upgrade to full plate when you get the chance, because it looks badass, and it also provides greater protection, even with a lesser maximum dexterity bonus.

Good choice in putting the point in cha. It is important, and the bonus will serve you well. First of all, you get to add your charisma bonus to all your saves, this alone makes it a worthwile investment, not to mention atack bonus to smite evil.

I would never call a wizard a weakling in his/her face. They can pretty much one-shot-kill most characters and creatures in the game, especially on higher levels.

And last, but not least, welcome to the wonderful world of roleplaying! It is a marvelous place where anything is possible. Enjoy yourself!

I thought my +10 Init ended this thread :P
