Going to omit this one from the Top rule..... for creepiness factor. :S

Good idea.

Liberty's Edge

Wow, lesson plans for 4 year olds ... our son is 5, we had a lot of trouble finding a pre-school that actually did proper lessons / teaching. The one he is at now is pretty good, there is some structure to their learning and they do music, writing, numbers, reading etc ... no history lessons though!

My son likes history.

So does mine ... it would probably help if I knew more.

We went into this shop called Toy Soldiers on the weekend, it sells, well, toy soldiers! Mostly of a similar size / scale to the little green plastic army men we had as kids, but metal (mainly) and fully painted (mainly) and everything from ancient Rome to WW2 and in between.

My boy kept asking, “Who are these guys? When are these ones from? Which country are they in?” I think between my brief knowledge of history and the labels on the display cases I didn’t steer him too far wrong ...

Yeah; I got some plastic vikings like that.

Also, at the Alamo, they had a set of plastic army men; Austin, Bowie, and Crockett are in there too....it's kinda cool.

The Alamo! Where Davy Crocket - who looked just like John Wayne - saved the world from an invasion by martians. Don't let anyone tell you any different!

So my son played his first RPG yesterday, with me. He’s five; he can write but not read (ie, he needs you to spell things out for him mostly, he can just read / recognise his name and a few simple words) and can do some simple math.

I ran a version of the old ‘orc and pie’ scenario for him. He made his character (Zane, an alien ninja) using the old ‘Fighting Fantasy’ stats (Skill on 2d6, Stamina on 2d6+12 and Luck on 2d6) – wrote up the character sheet and drew pictures of the weapons his character had.

It went well. He spoke to the farmer who’s pie was stolen, looked for clues, followed footprints to a cave, jumped up on the table where the orc was about to eat the pie, and attacked and defeated the orc and rescued the pie. He got a bit upset when he got stabbed by the orc, but was much cheered when he took the orc down next turn.

He returned the pie to the farmer and negotiated his reward (a cow – the farmer had initially offered a pig).

He wants to do ‘a longer adventure’ next time.

A cow pie?

Liberty's Edge

It was a blueberry pie. The farmer offered Zane a pig as a reward for recovering the pie (that makes perfect economic sense right??), but he negotiated up for a cow instead.

Sounds like the mayor who offered us 1,000 gp to find the town's chickens, when replacing them would have been much cheaper.

Must have been some pie! Key lime, I bet.

The wife wants to give out candy this year and watch scary movies. I think I might go to bed early.

~Also with the way she dreams I might not let her watch anything too creepy; that is if I want to sleep.~

Happy Halloween folks.

It's almost over here ... 10 minutes till midnight. Not that there was much Halloween action my way. I saw a couple of kids trick or treating on my way home, but no one knocked on our door.

The Exchange

Almost 8 Am, I have yet to see a costume.

I actually did forget one of my elbow pads last night. ;) The biggest problem was the game started at 10:30 last night and we got done about midnight. Work this morning came way too early.
