Regarding the doctors:
I always imagine doctors going over apointment time because:
Lonely elderly who want to talk
People who do not want to listen.
I just had a guy on the phone who said his laptop had trouble with the conference software and if I could fix.
I remote in.
There is a messages in the chat portion of the software stating it was currently experiencing troule. I could not ditch him for at least 10 minutes because he wanted to know if it could be fixed.
I imagine he also does something similar to doctors.

Between my phone case, Pathfinder subs that are shipping after having built up, and the Tales From the Loop and Things From the Flood rpgs I bought from the FLGS that's still able to ship to your house I've been averaging a mysterious package in the mail once every other day.
All I know is, whichever neighbor tries robbing us for our supposed mask and toilet paper horde will be sorely disappointed.
"Books!? What do you mean it's just books!! What are we supposed to do with books!!!"

Speaking of home delivery, here's an honest question: How many FaWtL members have actually lost a package to package thieves?
I ask because GothBard's father yet again had stuff delivered to our house because he is so terrified of "package thieves" in his neighborhood. Yet, though I have seen YouTube videos on how to thwart them, news reports on how prevalent they are, and Amazon practices that indicate that it happens (for example, taking pictures of the stuff on your porch), I honestly don't know anyone to whom it's happened. We order stuff on Amazon all the time, but yeah, Albany.
But our friend lives in Oakland. No issues around her. My family lives in Seattle. No issues for them.
So there's this huge mythos that if your packages get left on your porch, someone will come along and take them, and I came to the realization that I don't actually know anyone to whom it's happened.
I figure FaWtL is spread out across the globe; if it's happened to anyone, it will have happened to one of you.
So... anyone been the victim of package thievery?
Just curious...

The boss is using my pictures of our most recently accomplished project (paver edging around the flower beds in the front leading to the back porch) for our next ad.
Also, we each got a $45 tip for a job well done (it really is well done, so well in fact they're having us put edging around all of their gardens this summer).

Not that I know of. No way of knowing if they never arrived or got fished out of the mailbox.
Packages here generally dont get left outside. Its either delivered in person, at the neighbors, or a package delivery point. If its small enough it gets put in the mailbox.| NobodysHome |
Our next door neighbors have lost a few packages. We are on a path where a lot of school kids walk past (you know back when school was a thing)
Consider yourself lucky.
We get *new* things. Shopping carts. Chairs. Kids LOVE to give us "presents". Kind of like cats. But more annoying.

Package thieves...
For us, no. Has not happened. The only time I've had an issue is when UPS delivered a package full of computer parts to the wrong address (N blah street instead of S blah street) but that was 20-22 years ago.
Around college campuses and some apartment complexes, yeah, it's an issue.

I would say never, as far as I know...
But...
I don't get packages in the first place. I had some of my things sent from UK by my parents because it was cheaper than taking them as a luggage) using a private courier service that was specialized in taking packages from Poles in UK to Poland. I once ordered Windows 7 boxed set from UK, long-long ago.
I might have lost Green Ronin's Advanced Bestiary somewhere in the mail on the way from USA to Poland (or I might have simply been forgotten and not had the copy I should get as one of the authors sent in the first place).
Anyway, I live in a flat in a block. Likely the package would be delivered to me (I am usually home) or a note would be left in the mail box to get the package from the local mail office. It would not be as simple in case of courier, though.

We got a fair amount of wrappers and debris. Maybe 3-5/week. A few days of sitting outside w gsd and a dobe lowered that count. Nothing since school suspended

Did anyone go to CES this year?
Looks like it may have been an early vector for COVID 19 cases,. Santa Clara County California is now reporting that a death there in February was caused by the virus

only when it has been left downstairs.
We know all our neighbors on our floor, so whenever there is a package a neighbor usually takes it indoors for us and brings it to us when they know we are home.
Mom has had a few packages go missing at her house.

If you leave something on your porch here, there's a pretty good chance someone will snatch it. I can't say whether or not we've lost packages to it, given that most of the stuff sent to my current location is for my parents and I don't keep track of what they might be expecting, but I've heard numerous stories about things being snatched from porches on the regular.
For example, with the recent power outages someone in our neighborhood had their generator stolen off their porch. While it was in use.
So yeah. I'd definitely say it's a concern here.

So, is it political to post a video, without comment one way or the other, of a major world leader basically suggesting you inject bleach or rubbing alcohol into the human body to fight covid?
Without comment one way or another...ok, that's b!!@$##&, I'm commenting and we all know it...I sent a nice little note to one Senator Tammy Duckworth to inquire about what it's going to take for someone to actually invoke the 25th Amendment.
At least they kept Reagan's Alzheimer's under wraps and didn't let him wander out to the podium at that point in his life (yes, he should have been removed via 25th Amendment too).

Well, I didn't comment.
I could have. I think FaWtL has sorta scrapped a lot of its rules with the Covid crisis, and while the majority of us seem to share leanings (with contrary opinions seeming to be much less emphatic than the overall leanings I notice) and would likely get along, as I get older, I question the point of it.
The thing I noticed about political commentary is it serves no purpose. The majority of folks don't change their opinions when presented with well-thought out debate; they simply entrench.
I know it has to happen - someone out there has to actually have their opinions changed by debate, but I'll be damned if I ever witnessed it in my life. Not just by my words, but the words of others - I can not, in my existence, recount more than five times - and that's if I really, really scrape my memories - remember anyone with a strong opinion having their mind changed by a well-thought, rational response.
TL:DR - nobody ever changes their minds, and those who agree already agree, so what's the actual, practical purpose of political debate?

Yes, facts and lies are both political. That said, dammed if I'm gonna call fritzy.

This question is a favorite of mine. Are you familiar with the Enlightenment idea of reason and debate?

I have been known to switch positions from time to time.
It would be egotistical to think my opinion is right all the time.

In my case, venting and catharsis. I'm not here (or anywhere else I discuss political stuff) trying to convince anyone. I'm just letting off steam.
