LOL. I was wondering whether you'd pipe up. On this side of the pond we get the "Skewd News", and it really does make every country outside of the U.S. sound like a Socialist H***hole o'Doom.
Just poking fun.

Living in the Past:
(1) We lost power again this morning, for the third power outage since the rain started. Ain't deregulation and privatization of public utilities great!?!?
(2) PG&E's automated system phoned our land line to notify us of the outage. Which, thanks to the breakup of Ma Bell, no longer works without power. Way to assume that everyone gives you their cell phone number as their primary contact number, PG&E!
PG&E is a stellar example of privatization at its worst: Line maintenance is both expensive and non-profitable; if you have a monopoly on providing power, people can't switch providers if your service is terrible. There's no "capitalism" involved because there's no competition. So PG&E went ahead and cut their vast maintenance fund to boost their stock price and then give bonuses to their executives for doing such a magnificent job in boosting the stock price, and now power outages, brownouts, downed lines, and fires caused by said lines are a "many times a year" thing.
You don't expect to be living in a metropolitan area of nearly 8 million people and lose power every time it rains, but when your utilities have been privatized, it's what you get.

Getting married to Tala in 9 days. Gonna be in DC for honeymoon (cause the Smithsonian is free and we broke AF).
I don't know if I'll keep talking here. I like hanging with all of you, but otherwise don't really frequent Paizo for any other reason. I don't PBP, I don't care about rules adjucation anymore, and there's nothing new about PF1 to learn.
I'll see most of you on Tac's DAWTL Discord server, but I believe my trips here will be fewer and further between as time goes on.

For quite a long time, I only come to Paizo forums for FAWTLs and DMCal's thread with a very occasional peek into LGBT thread. Still staying here.
And not only because of a yearly treat from NH.
Though they do not hurt, either.

Carrion Crown could have gone better tonight. I should have scored a TPK with a horde of skeletons, but instead settled for killing 2 out of 5 of them. My dice were pretty hot, hitting about 60% of the time and usually doing max damage. Meanwhile, the PCs couldn't hit for shit. Afterwards, everyone kept trying to take the blame. Except for the cleric's player, who I kind of feel messed up the most. When mobbed by skeletons, he spent 4 turns NOT channeling energy to harm undead. And when he finally did, he got upset because he rolled low damage and didn't try again the next turn (which would have killed them all).

Yesterday was Ritual Gourd Mutilation day, and we all had a good time. Mine was carved to resemble a Beh*ld*r, and I did a pretty decent job, even if I do say so myself.
Today, we went to see some of ALL (DE)'s pals in a posh town just north of Leeds. We had dinner, then went out to the park with the kids.
We warned Shanna yesterday that she would be ill if she ate raw pumpkin, and she did, and she was; we also had a devil of a job getting Sonic down from the climbing frame he'd ascended entirely of his own volition, but they'll learn (I hope).

The karate school trunk or treat thingy is exactly as hilarious as you'd expect, with people opening their trunks and kids line up to grab candy out of it and then move on. Or at least that's how sensible people would do it, but this is Madison where sensible is led out of town and shot as soon as it tries to sneak in so of course everyone has an elaborate game they created for kids to play in order to get their candy which has turned it into a slog of patience and germs.

We're watching the livestream of the 40th anniversary concert of one of our favorite bands. It's heartbreaking. One of the guys just forgot the key, the lyrics, and the changes for a song he wrote and has been performing for a good twenty years, and just stood there, baffled, for a very uncomfortable couple of moments. One of the other guys almost didn't survive open heart surgery and a bad post-op infection last year.
I've been following this band since '93. I'm having trouble watching this.

Sure, it's just not in-character for either the character or the player. He's been channeling constantly against every undead thing they've encountered, and the one time they face a large group of undead (11 skeletons) he decides not to. And as a player, he normally loves any chance to do lots of damage. If he'd channeled round 1, and rolled at least 4 damage, he could have destroyed them all. Instead, he waited until the party was already in really bad shape, tried once, and decided that he was "useless" and didn't try again.

I've been playing Far Cry 6 on the PlayStation 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PlayStation 4 when the PS 5 is being used by others.
In Far Cry 6 I've started to cope with the lack of a tank by absolutely rampaging across Yara with whatever means necessary. On the plus side I've found a couple of new guns, a new pair of shoes and blew up a ton of people. On the other side, I still don't have the tank I was promised.
In RDR 2 I went out hunting with Hosea and went all Leonardo DiCaprio on this bear whose pelt I then had to drag back to camp on the back of my horse. So I find this lady under her dead horse so I help her get out from under the horse and she asks for a ride to town so I say sure. Then she says there's not enough room for her with the bear pelt so I left her. Ironically when I got back to camp there wasn't enough camp funds to reimburse me so it sits on the edge of camp.

It's quite sad: We're "losing" our corner store.
I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I noticed that the quality of the produce had plummeted to the point that now I stock up at the Farmer's Market on Sundays rather than buy the far-more-convenient produce at the corner store. They're frequently out of things I need (it's been two weeks since they've had mirin in stock, and they seem to have abandoned any decent cheeses entirely).
GothBard finally hit the nail on the head:
The previous owners wanted to run the store as a "mom and pop" grocery store that people could go to as an alternative to the "big boys" on Solano and at the El Cerrito Plaza.
The new owners want to run the place as a "convenience store": They're already selling lottery tickets, they've added an ATM, cigarettes are far more prominently displayed, and they've applied for a hard liquor license. The whole "mood" of the place has changed. It's no longer where you want to go to support a local market; it's where you end up because you're cooking dinner and you realize you forgot an ingredient.
I hadn't even noticed the gradual change until the owner commented that he wasn't seeing nearly as much of me as he used to. And I realized it's true; other than stocking up on meat at the (still good) butcher or coffee, I tend to do my shopping elsewhere.
Nearly 20 years of shopping at a place because it had a wonderful, "homey" feel, overturned by an ownership that doesn't understand the "spirit" of the place.
I wonder how long they'll stay in business. They're not exactly at a primo locale for a convenience store, nor do they have the hours for one. (They close at 7 pm on weeknights and 5 pm weekends.)
EDIT: Just to make LM suffer, I'm making a lamb curry tonight. I'd normally trot over to the corner store to buy everything I need. Instead, I need to make separate runs to the farmer's market and Ranch 99 because:
- The garlic and onions at the corner store are typically old and sprouting, so you lose at least half of them
- The potatoes and tomatoes at the corner store are already mushy and rotting
- I no longer trust the corner store to have the spices and seasonings I need in stock, so as long as I need mirin anyway, I can go by the Ranch 99 and get everything I need, and I know they'll have it

Aaand after I finally get the custom mini for my Realms Harper that WW insisted on giving me, he's decided to bench my character for a while and have me play a mysterious child character who can be a companion to Hermione and Val's PCs rather than their guardian.
So I'm creating a half-oread war orphan who is a Ward of Tempus.
