Grrr, I started getting short of breath a couple weeks ago and thought I might have an allergy. But yet again it's turned out to be a chronic lung infection -- I've got to learn that I just don't have allergies, and kill these things with fi--er, I mean antibiotics. I am 100% certain that I'm going to end up in the hospital next week if I can't kick this thing before my prednisone runs out.
@Tac, thanks for the reply, it's very helpful! It may take me a while to get together whatever follow-up questions I may have. :)

I've done alright out of them - I met my present and previous girlfriends that way - but you should expect to send out a lot of messages and get no response before someone gets back in touch. It's the same for everyone.The "fun" thing about dating apps: If they're interested and will actually message you back, it's probably an advertising bot or person working on commission.
If they're a real person? Don't bother if they match you. You will never, ever get a reply. Ever.
And even then you have the ghosting from some people. However, Zelda has shown me some of the messages she's received from some of the more disturbed who walk among us. Women have reason not to respond.

TS: I’m super-sorry to hear about the infection! You are in my prayers! And no rush on the getting back, though I will add this:
The exchange went similarly to this:
- P: “Teafher is it lawful to pay taxes to the Ceasar?” (Hawhaw, gottem now, as he’ll either be in rebellion to the Empire or suggest giving holy to pagans is right!)
- J: “Let me see a coin.”
- P: “Ah, uh, sure. Here.”
- J: “Who’s face is on this coin?”
- P: “Um... what? A-are you really ignorant (and thus stupid) or slow in the head? Uh, I mean, Ceasar’s.” (Duh.)
- J (flicks coin back): “Well then, render unto Ceasar’s what is Ceasar’s, render unto God what is God’s.”
This neatly sidestepped the entire issue. No one can suggest that He said, “give the heretics money that violates the Scripture.” and no one can say He suggested, “Don’t pay your taxes.” and non one can say that He failed to thoroughly answer the question. By showing off Ceasar’s face, He firmly established that the coin was, in fact, Caesar’s to most interpretations, but His statement left enough wiggle room that if a person refused to pay the tax on the grounds of it not being Scriptural, He didn’t condemn them in a public way... while still mandating that the Law - that is the Scripture - be followed. He effectively created a “door number three” in a yes/no question.
This is a perfect example of why Christianity has, from its beginning, been fundamentally political - our faith is one that is deeply rooted in the faith of Judaism, which, by its nature, has political aspirations and understandings and traits as it revolves around the polity of the Jewish people (including their country). But notice that He doesn’t justify Ceasar or suggest the man is in the right about... anything. He acknowledges that he has temporal political authority and suggests that it would be wrong for most to violate that (while still allowing room for those who do), but never suggests that Ceasar (or those who work for him) is at all particularly righteous or good.
This ties back to other ancient Scriptures, such as God being able to turn the heart of a ruler of the people, and Paul’s later exhortations to follow the laws of both man and God (unless the law of man prevents you from following the law of God, in which case, follow the law of God, but do not fight the law of man). This contrasts with some Biblical heroes like Ehud or Gideon who explicitly were tasked with overturning legal entities by violent means (Ehud being the OG Jewish Ninja - making assassination cool before it existed as a word), and compares differently to David who refused to harm Saul, even as he stayed out of the reach of the man’s authority.
The point is: one can easily interpret that an “apolitical” stance (one in which they refuse to follow any particular party, and is actively passive/a kind of non-activist/non-participatory) is the correct one for their particular calling, but Christianity as a whole is not partisan (or rather, is incidentally partisan), but fundamentally political, due to dealing with topics that are, by nature, political, as people will make them points of politics, even if they weren’t before.

I haven't even tried driving my car yet, still snowing.
Mine's been stuck for 2 days now. Happened Sunday when i was trying to leave for work. Turns out that the melting snow turned the slight ditch in the yard to pudding, and I got stuck. Borrowed my in-laws' van to go to work with plans on getting it out with my father in-law's truck later. Then the blizzard hit, and we literally cannot drive the block from my in-laws' house to even attempt to get it out.

- Their shrimp platters are apparently good; I wouldn't know, but I'll buy one or two
- Last time I bought their wrap platter, Whingey wasn't doing dairy and wouldn't eat them. But the wraps are the one other thing at their deli that I consider perfectly edible
- I *could* do a meat platter, but it wouldn't compare to Shiro's ludicrous, "I'm going to buy a huge platter of hand-carved Boar's Head deli meats" from last time
So, any ideas? Or should we skip trying to find anything edible at Costco and go somewhere "real"?
(On the one hand, I'm prepped all the way through all of Castle Korvosa, so I'm not worried about needing more than 30-45 minutes to prep. On the other hand, Costco's going to eat my time from roughly 9:00 am - 11:00 am, so I don't have time to cook anything significant.)

I am not a huge fan of wrap sandwiches. It's what Methodists serve at funerals to remind everyone that they're supposed to be miserable.
I will undoubtedly have ideas later, but I've had a crap morning because my darling son decided to pour an entire brand new jar of shrimp pellets into the classroom turtle tank and then fling water everywhere just as another student arrived and promptly peed on the floor, so there was a colossal amount of cleanup.
Can you please email me the current files on Norathar and Whingey's sorority wizard?
I want to pull them up on my laptop to make my shopping list.

But yeah, I think the most telling moment of my fiscal life was when Impus Major looked over my shoulder at our Quicken accounts a few months ago and in a very concerned tone, asked, "Dad, are we going to lose the house?"
It's really hard to explain to a 16-year-old that being hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt is perfectly normal around here. So I just had to reassure him that yes, we were absolutely fine, and all the giant red numbers really didn't mean all that much. It was just, "Rent". For the next 20-30 years...
EDIT: It's also why I find the "Why aren't you a millionaire" thread so amusing: If I include the houses, I'm close. If I don't, I'm actually in the red by over a hundred grand. So, which number counts?

Thank you! Admittedly, the house is old and a bit on the small side, and it needs a lot of work, but it is mine. One of the perks of living in a rural area of South Dakota (not that there is much in the state that isn't rural). We paid $20k plus interest over the past 6 years. Came out to around $22k with interest. The house is over 100 years old, just under 1,000 square feet, and we have 2 lots of land (somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 an acre).

Back in 2002, we paid $470,000 for a 900 square foot house on a 3250 square foot lot, built in 1929 (I think its legal listing is 1320 because they include the garage and the studio). It had charms such as a collapsing shed in the back, a bad roof, and a bad foundation. And we considered it a bargain!
The same house, with the same bad roof and foundation (kind of explains why we need a new one) but a new shed just appraised for $1,052,000.
For basically a shed in any other part of the country.
Californians are stupid.
EDIT: And what's sad is that financial investors agree: My mother-in-law was widowed a couple of years ago, plus came into an inheritance from her parents, so she finally had enough to consider buying a house. Her financial advisor said, "Don't be an idiot! You have enough to live comfortably for the rest of your life, or you can waste your money on an overpriced house that'll drain everything you have and you'll be miserable and in poverty for the rest of your life. Which would you rather choose?"
Buying houses is apparently fiscal idiocy around here...

Well, I'm sure Ivan's heard this one many times, but the best part of South Dakota is that it's not North Dakota. The Dakotas have places that can make my "very rural" upbringing feel positively metropolitan.
