I heard a report on the radio yesterday how running may be a natural part of the human condition, then I watched the people in the Avengers running so smoothly and effortlessly, and realized how very, very jealous I was and how much I miss running. I ran distance in my teens, but then chondromalacia patella put an end to it. Running was like meditation and stress-relief all rolled into one.The one time I was able to run in the last mumble decades was on an Orbiter, and I started crying because it was so wonderful. Kind of embarrassing.
They haven't been able to do much for this condition besides chicken shots, but the one shot I did get made an amazing difference before it ran out. I'm too young for knee replacements, but I really, really want to run again. This strange determination is growing within me to start weight loss and general conditioning. The chicken shots will work better with low weight and good conditioning so maybe I can start at least jogging in a year or so.
It may be a forlorn hope, but it's good to have a goal, right?

It's move-out weekend for most of the students here at Syracuse University. And there's nothing like move-out weekend to bring out the worst in spoiled rich a!@!$%~s. People have been junking and throwing out everything they can so that all of their crap can fit in their cars. It's like the Dust Bowl, only with spoiled rich kids from NYC instead of poor dirt farmers. A few hours ago, I watched a guy dump a large cardboard box full of shoes into a trash compactor. After my shift got out at 1:30 AM, I drove around campus stealing s+!# out of dumpsters, and managed to get a nice desk chair, a full set of sheets (still in their packaging), a cork bulletin board, a bookcase, a full set of pots and pans, and a half-sized refrigerator. These kids don't know how the world works.
My partner's brother does fire and security systems, and usually tests college dorms during the summer months. He got to know a maintenance guy who hooks him up with all kinds of stuff kids throw out. Flat screen TVs, computers, furniture, you name it.

We got our stuff, finally!
Actually, that makes it sound like shipping people actually came through. They did not. We rented a truck, drove to the warehouse, and took our stuff. When the people you hire to take care of your move don't come through, you can fight all you want, but when it comes down to it, we just wanted our s!&~, so we took matters into our own hands. We'll still fight them over what we've paid them, but at least we have:
Our actual bed.
The desktop computer.
Our TV.
Some cookware so we can stop eating out.

Back in 2005, my friends and I had just moved into our new apartment - moving out the overpriced "student housing" apartments the school ran - and we spent a week walking up and down the streets looking for furniture. Between the four of us we managed to haul a full couch, a loveseat, a sofa chair, a TV stand, a bookshelf, a bedframe and mattresses, and a small computer desk back. Most had only superficial damage, the rest none at all, and other than a little bit of necessary cleaning all were good to be used.
The couch and sofa chair lasted me through my next two apartments - a total of three more years - before finally getting worn enough to merit being thrown out. The loveseat would have as well, having started in much better condition, if the puppy we had for a few months hadn't decimated it.

I cry my victory to the winds!
Look upon my might, ye foul ones, and despair!
I have faced my foe and vanquished it!
Sheesh, why am I so excited to have installed a garage door opener in my own garage?
I used to do 4 to 6 a year when I was building houses, and quicker, too.
It does seem more exciting when it's for me.
Also designed, built, and installed a three tiered planter for the back yard that fits up in the corner of the fence.
Soon, the wife's herbs will be flourishing in the outdoors rather than the window sills!

This coming Saturday is my anniversary. The wife and I have discussed taking off early on Friday, using the boy in daycare to our advantage, and going to see Avengers.
However, she has a big to-do here at work all week, and depending on how it goes may not be able to take off on Friday.
Needless to say, I informed her that will NOT prevent me from seeing the movie myself.
