So, I need lots of new clothes for the new job. I go poke around at the Nordstrom Off the Rack to see how far my money might go there (not far), and I notice that, men's shirts have gotten lots louder than they used to be. What style advice do the FaWTLies have for a guy looking to bring his CHA MOD up through the purchasing of better, but not necessarily crazy more expensive, clothes?

J.C. Penny - Stafford Oxford shirts - the heavy weave stuff. They look decent, no loud colors, and they'll last forever. Four of the ones I own I've had for over 10 years, with hardly a sign of wear or tear.

That and some Dockers pants - you're good to go.

If you need a suit - Joseph A Banks. Excellent customer service and it seems they've always got some kind of sale or special going on.

I am going to +1 this and add Kohls. I love me some Kohls.

Ooh. Yes, Kohls has good things.

I like the stuff at Banana Republic, but I usually can't afford it unless it's an outlet or on clearance...

I don't think I've bought anything (unless it was a specific t-shirt or something) outside of Kohl's in the last 5-8 years.

I actually like clothes the more I have worn them. I don't like shopping for new clothes either. I like my clohtes a little worn. I don't exactly like holes in them.

My son is like this too. I often shop for him at secondhand stores for just this reason. It's just gotten more difficult to find stuff in his size as he's gotten older. But now we're getting to another spot that usually has a good selection of secondhand clothes since the 12-14 sizes usually have a lot. Sizes 7-10 are rough as most kids seem to wear out their clothes in those sizes before they grow out of them. On the bright side this also saves lots of money on clothes. :)

Wow, you hate avatar without even watching it? I didn't even know you hated Cameron this much, or that he was so universally despised. To be clear, I *do*hate titanic and the hoopla that followed the film, and while I do like avatar(and the stunning avatar cosplay I saw on occasion)., I do not approve of the foaming at the mouth fanaticism of the film. It was just a pretty movie with some stunning effects (giant robots yay) and a rather tired storyline that I didn't have to work to keep up with. I find Cameron to be something of a boor, personally.

I'm sorry to hear that you don't care for Cameron. While I truly detest Titanic, I loved Avatar.

WTF?! All that ranting about how Whedon is such a hack and then THIS?

I...I don't know you anymore, man.....:P

I will grant you that the visual effects in Avatar are amazing. It was the only thing that made the movie bearable. But the movie as a whole...the words tired and recycled come to mind. Cameron is so preachy and full of himself and he makes these hideously mediocre movies to great critical acclaim....the guy wouldn't know an original idea if it bit him. :/
I didn't even see Avatar and I hate the movie, and the man. All the hate on Whedon, and you back anything Cameron! C'mon! And at the word Original here all I could think was, "Dr Horrible's Sing a long blog"!!!!

Pretty much this. Meh on the storyline, I was there for the giant war machines, pterodactyl-riding spearmen, and explosions.

It's the slouching that is a problem. There's a reason nudes are usually photographed stretching backwards...

See? Now I can level some hateratin at Cameron. He's clearly overdoing it if he makes a sequel.

So they say. We will see if ti ever makes it to the theaters. Personally I will wait until it is out on something like HBO. I won't pay a dime for it if I can.

The Exchange

Allow me to chime in. I hate Cameron, but like some of his films.

I hate Joss, but like some of his films, and ONE t.v. series.

I absolutely DESPISE anything with Adam Sandler, any Wayon, Chris Farley, Brad Pitt, or Mike Myers in it. Yes I am aware that rules out 90% of all movies from the late 90's.

The Avengers movie is glorious. GLORIOUS!

This may very well be the best super hero film I've ever seen.

Yeah they are. I love the creating and developing of NPC/PC relationships, but there is this group of powerful, read rich and influential, NPC's that the PC's have gotten in good with.

Spoiler:
Problem is I may have eluded to them being very close to each other... so now I have to produce physical descriptions so Solnes can decide if her bard wants to get closer with them.

Cap is my all time favorite, but Thor and Wasp, Janet, rank real close. Then there's She Hulk, I wish they'd not made her a joke, she is easy in the top 10.

Least... the new "cap", you know the former terrorist, is most hated. But Iron Man, the comic version, is right up there too, and I really am sick of the Hulk. And his rainbow brigade of knock-offs.

How 'bout yours?

It will be an excellent outing. If you're trying to be cost conservative, it's really not necessary to throw down for the 3-D as I didn't feel that it made that much of an impact that couldn't be told in 2-D mode.

Hopefully it'll replace Riley's love for Cars. Because I don't think I could get bored watching this movie again. Serious intense moments and a lot of laugh out loud scenes.

I say this as I usually get jaded with most films that tend to get tagged with block buster hype.

The Exchange

On a side note about the Avengers, I recently heard some guy grousing about how you're not a "True Fan" just because you like the movies, he went on to say that the movie fans probably couldn't name the entire roster.

I pointed out that the roster has changed so many times over the years that Stan "The Man" Lee couldn't name the entire roster off the top of his head.

What will happen is that upon the conclusion of the film, you'll go home and cry yourself into a frenzy because you want to hate what you have seen because The Avengers is essentially Whedonism galore ... but the movie will have beat all expectations to deride it where it creates a conundrum and you fall into a series of self loathing because you don't know how to explain your conflicted feelings.

Yeah, it's like that.

You'll be more confused than trying to explain to an elderly person that an ATM isn't just a place to withdraw money. ;-)

Let's see..To me, Avengers has always been a very Justice League esque team, where characters are only supposed to be on the team for a year or so, and then move on to give others a chance to shine. I really didn't get into Avengers until relatively recently, with the new 3D-Man being introduced to the team and the team having to face issues with perceived racism. GREAT scene with Cap where he had to face down that problem. My favorite Avenger? Probably Hawkeye, if only because he gives everyone such crap and things are NEVER boring when he's around, especially in a leadership position. I also liked Hank Pym, especially the side of him they showed in the cartoon series, but I don't like the "I'm kinda crazy and I beat my wife when I'm in a bad mood due to Pym Particles!!!" side they kept pushing in the regular version as well as Ultimate. I also really liked it when USAgent was on the team, being such a hardass that even Hawkeye had to say something. Least favorite? Iron man, considering what he did recently. I also hate the Scarlet Witch and Vision, if only because they monopolized so much time in the 90's...I have no idea why they weren't just kicked off the team, they caused so much trouble/drama....

I wonder what's gonna assemble now that I'm nekkid...
