I managed to unpack the suitcase Teensy Valeros had packed for himself, cleaned and reorganized his dresser, and re-packed the suitcase, IN FRONT OF HIM, without him arguing or pitching a fit.
And then I removed the suitcase to my own room so he can't add to or subtract anything from it in the next four days.
I am a freaking rockstar.
I can't help but smile. I did much the same at his age.
gran can confirm or deny, but, "We can't give you a rollaway cot because putting one in a room with two queen beds violates the fire code," sounds a lot like, "I'm betting you're not going to take, "It's against hotel policy," for an answer, so I'm making stuff up to pass the blame on to someone else."
Another reason people hate the government -- it gets the blame for stuff it doesn't do as well as what it does do.
It is against code here. Probably other places, too. Most rooms aren't big enough to put the rollaway in there without making it difficult (or impossible in some hotels I've worked at) to actually get past them and to the door (or bathroom).
That being said, we still sometimes give them out anyways, and it's very possible that the person who said that to you was taking advantage of the law in order to be lazy.

Dear Hotel Architects: Heavy wooden sliding bathroom doors that don't latch and that leave a gap big enough to see through aren't "cool" or "modern": They're a PITA embarrassment. And when your lowest-bid construction crew comes in and mis-balaces them so they slowly slide open of their own accord, NO ONE is going to appreciate your "genius" or "vision".

Of course not. The architect will blame the builders, saying it wouldn't happen if they had used the specified doors, latches, etc. The builders will say it was the manufacturer's fault. So I've been working through a bunch of psychological crap these last few months around lifelong issues with anger, perfectionism, self-worth, and codependency.
And a passage in a book I just finished really hit home:
Most codependents are reactionaries. We react with anger, guilt, shame, self-hate, worry, hurt, controlling gestures, caretaking acts, depression, desperation, and fury. We react with fear and anxiety. Some of us react so much it is painful to be around people, and torturous to be in large groups of people."
Well here’s a f*++ing revelation. Thanks to my father’s abuse, I’ve been diagnosed by various therapists over the years with an anxiety disorder, PTSD, depression, and codependence. All my life, I’ve thought I was a hard-core introvert, because I find being around other people exhausting. I’m terrified by the weight of their judgment. I can’t even go running in daylight, I have to get up at five in the morning so strangers won’t be able to see and judge me. I’ve sat crying in a parked car in the dark for two hours because I was too afraid to go into a fifty-person Friendsgiving party, sat petrified on a staircase because I was too afraid to go into a dinner party I’d spent all day cooking for. But if there is one thing I’ve learned from the Pandemic, it’s that I. NEED. PEOPLE. I hate being lonely. I want to spend time with others.
In other words, what if all this time, I haven’t been an introvert at all, but an anxious, codependent extrovert?

Without openly stating what I am talking about out of respect for forum rules, and nobody else should feel the need to engage, reply to, or discuss in any detail your own position as there's no need to subject yourself to potential moderation as I'm sure I'm already pushing the line but...
The news and developments coming out of a nine-person bench this last week has been absolutely soul-crushing as a compassionate, moderately educated father of a beautiful preschool-age daughter. I already wrote a few emails to the individuals who supposedly represent me but I'm just crushed and at this point, I have next to zero hope left that the land in which I live will be a sane, safe, or ethical place for her to grow up.
Maybe the French really do have the right approach.

Shiro and GothBard look much the same as ever, possibly because GothBard really is secretly an ageless vampire or something, and Shiro has probably had white hair since he was twenty, but you and Hi are suddenly much more silver than the last time I saw you.

I already wrote a few emails to the individuals who supposedly represent me but I'm just crushed and at this point, I have next to zero hope left that the land in which I live will be a sane, safe, or ethical place for her to grow up.
Maybe the French really do have the right approach.
As I've mentioned, GothBard is at the point that if we could emigrate today with no repercussions we'd be gone. Family and finances keep us here for the moment. And let's be blunt: California's legislature does an amazing job of stupid, but when it comes to personal decisions it bends over backwards to let you make those decisions, for better or for worse.

Fun Facts About Emigrating:
(1) The U.S. is one of the few countries in the world to tax foreign income. So, fir example, if we moved to the Netherlands and worked there, we'd pay both U.S. and Dutch income tax on our employment income. That right there makes most emigrants renounce their U.S. citizenship as soon as they leave.
(2) If you are worth over a certain amount and you try to renounce your U.S. citizenship, the Feds assume it's for tax evasion purposes and immediately seize 30% of your total assets.
So, can't work as a U.S. citizen without being bankrupted by taxes, and can't save up enough to leave without losing a sizeable chunk of it to taxes. And then the country to which you're immigrating wants to know, "How are you going to afford to live here?"
With taxes like that, I honestly don't know. (The answer is to wait until retirement and keep your citizenship, but GothBard doesn't want to wait that long.)

Yeah, I realize, I even had the pleasure of having my mother and aunt accuse my wife of being hysterical for expressing her feelings, so yeah, it's pretty apparent not everyone feels the same way.

One of my earliest memories (and favorite family stories) is one of my dads friends trying to tap a keg and not quite getting it. I was standing there looking at him, and the friend turned around and asked my dad if I was a little off or something.
"Well he is my kid but erm.. mostly...." points.
My dads friend turns around and I"ve tapped the keg.

Car mostly loaded. House mostly clean.
All we have to do in the morning is load the cooler and remember phone chargers and toothbrushes.
Oh, and I have to remember to ask Miz Daisy to water my plants.
I'm sure she'll enjoy having the house to herself for a few weeks.
Tomorrow at this time, we'll be going to sleep in the campground at Mammoth Caves NP.
