Well, s*@~. After a week of every day feeling like it should be Friday, it's finally Friday!

[Lengthy string of expletives redacted.]
Finding out that your son's medication is on nationwide backorder is not fun.
Particularly on the day you're supposed to go away and leave the kids with Grandma for the weekend.
Trying not to panic.

Hello, everyone.

Hello, John!

@LM - hope the situation with your son's meds gets sorted.

Our pediatrician's nurse is worth her weight in gold-pressed latinum.

She called around and found a pharmacy that had the 20mg tablets and told us to just cut them in half. We'll be able to pick up the bottle on our way home tomorrow evening and he will only miss one dose. We told Grandma that if he gets too crazy to either assign him yardwork or silent reading time.

Finished my project today, mostly. A few things to do on Monday but otherwise I'm done. After that I'm fixing something someone else messed up and then starting a new job.

About to go home. Good night, everyone. And have a good weekend.

The Eastern Narrow-Mouth Toad has a croak that sounds like a sheep.
We heard a few of them today. Either that, or there was a herd of invisible pygmy water goats hidden in the rushes at the lake.

Fun fact: rabbits scream like people when in mortal danger.

I know this because every night an owl hunts rabbits in our backyard and occasionally I'm woken up by their screams when the owl gets one (mostly in the winter when they have less cover).

ALL (DE) and I spent much of today ripping up carpet and taking it to the dump, which is a very satisfying activity. She also has a great desire to see me wearing a Panama hat, which is something I do not really understand.

How much work must be done before you can move in? Do you have a target date?

Okay, without giving away any spoilers (although I'm usually the last person I know to see *anything*), WTF IS UP WITH THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT?!

For the love of god! It's like they just threw a bunch of twelve year olds into the writer's room, got them coked out of their minds on sugar, and let them just write down whatever the Spock sounded cool to them.

And it's *still* better than Kenobi.

I literally just watched Boba Fett and Kenobi over the last 2 days (I don't have Disney+, but I was visiting my parents and they do). I thought Fett was better than Mandalorian, and while I was enjoying Kenobi, I kinda zoned out during the 1st half of episode 4 and don't really know what happened during that time. Maybe it helps that I wasn't paying full attention to either show, I was always doing other things while watching them.

Also, last week I finally got around to watching Stranger Things. I have finished the first 2 seasons. I didn't like season 1 that much. I felt like it was too slow (I like pacing to build tension, but I kept getting bored), while the climax was too sudden. Overall, I thought season 2 was better. I didn't get bored like I kept doing with season 1, but still the climax felt rushed.

Oh, one more thing. All 4 shows mentioned above (Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Kenobi, and Stranger Things) have the same problem, in my opinion. And it's one that many shows and movies have had over the last 20 years (or more). THEY KEEP FILMING SCENES THAT ARE SO DARK THAT I CAN'T SEE WHAT THE FIRECRACKER IS HAPPENING!!! I don't know how many times there has been an action scene going on, and all I see is black on black on black, and hear a bunch of grunting. Then someone limps away and I have no idea who (or what) they fought, how they get hurt, and if their opponent died or ran away. It's really frustrating.

That was an issue with the last Batman movie.

OOOOOOF.

I felt that.

I though Book of Boba Fett was okay, I am enjoying Kenobi despite my dislike for the character.

I think it was an issue with a lot of Batman movies. Maybe all of them except for the Adam West one.

I found episode 1 interesting enough, I really started to like it in episode 2 (mostly the flashback sequences), but then episode 3 just went off the rails so far I couldn't take it seriously.

Yup. I keep hoping that adjusting the brightness or the screen angle of the laptop will help and it never does.

I've never once regretted it.

Not a huge amount, though we will have to get professionals in for a couple of things. ALL (DE)'s lease runs out in August, so that's when she's moving over wholesale; I'll either move over at the same time or before, depending on when I can sell my current house.

Hello, everyone.

I love the way he said that.

It is really hard having "semi-adult" kids.

Impus Minor has been planning a 2-night camping trip to the Russian River for the last two weeks. It's not a great plan: None of them are experienced campers. Only one of them can drive and there are 6 of them, so they had one of their aunts drop them at the site. Impus Minor didn't even know where they'd be until the last minute yesterday at which point he texted me that they'd be at "Wright Beach". The only Wright's Beach in California is on the coast in Sonoma county, which is a totally different kettle of fish: The water is 10°F colder, the weather is 20°F colder, and that section of the ocean is lethal with rip currents from the Alaskan flow.

And of course he texted me his final location just before he went out of cell phone service so I get to sit here for 48 hours hoping the kids don't do anything stupid.

It's a great group of kids and I have faith in them to take care of themselves. Unfortunately, it's an astonishingly loud, clueless, "Stay up 'til 4 am and who cares who we bother," group of kids, so I worry about other people in their area.

And for now, all I can do is wait...

It's hard man. PM with some information sent.

Appreciate the concern, but as I responded in the PM, the trip organizer banned anyone from bringing a swimsuit at all "because it's too dangerous". And he's a lifeguard, so they'll listen.

In other news, Impus Major continues to have a 99.4°F temperature all day every day with no end in sight. He feels fine: No symptoms, no lethargy, absolutely happy to walk around, sing, and otherwise behave perfectly normal. So we're taking him in on Thursday for another test. It's fine if he wants to have an elevated temperature forever, but we're about to go on a road trip and he can't be locked in a minivan with 5 other people for two weeks if he's still contagious.

EDIT: Oh, and what the article you PM'ed me missed is that Impus Major came home from the doctor after testing positive there and still tested negative at home.

EDIT 2: Just for yuks, I gave Impus Major another take-home test. Another negative. *SIGH*

Who actually solves problems and gets things done in old fairy tales? What does that say about the morals these tales are trying to teach?

I've taken "good" inclusivity training in the past; two years ago I had a course on unconscious bias that really opened my eyes.

But today's course on inclusivity?
(1) If I can replace your 20-minute presentation with a slide that says, "Don't be a jerk," give people the same exact exam as you have at the end of your training, and they can get 100%, your exam is worthless. Which is a likely indicator that so is your training. (It was. It was kindergarten-level, "Don't be mean to other people. Don't make fun of them when they make mistakes. Don't insult the way they look.")
If we have employees that need that level of instruction, I weep for them.

(2) If you're giving out inclusivity training and you manage to insult a member of an "outsider" group, you really screwed up. (They had an example as to why it's not OK to host social events that focus around alcohol and apparently the only reasons someone might not drink are for religious reasons or disabilities; no otherwise-rational person would choose not to drink.)

0/5. Would not watch again.

About to go home. Good night, everyone.

Yesterday was the first official day of summer vacation. I say this because yesterday was the first day I didn't get the school district's automated covid screening email.

It used to be the boss would introduce me to customers as "His best guy!" And customers would say "Him?!"

Now the boss introduces me as "This is the guy who did the sundial!" Or "This is the guy that carves boulders into fountains!" Now customers say "This is him?!"

A big difference.

Eve's boss texted her this morning that "We need DD for the meeting this morning."
She texted back "Dungeons & Dragons?"
"No, Eve, Dunkin Donuts."

I personally find Dunkin twice as sweet as it ought to be, like IHOP, and will go with the random mom-and-pop any day, but she says those are fightin' words in the northeast.

Not only did GothBard get a, "Your kid missed third period today" text DURING graduation, but both kids have now graduated and I'm still getting the automated high school emails... even after opting out.

I swear, there should be massive penalties for opt-outs that don't. (See Funimation)

Just saw a caption that said "marching band plays distantly" but thought it said "disdainfully", which would have been funny.
