Scarab Sages

Company I worked for always tracked the vans. But that was because the vans were full with highly expensive specialized equipment.

*SIGH*. Speaking of good faith, the best-laid plans, and all that, so much for trying to "do the right thing".

The school district asked for all students' household incomes to help "the government" (don't know whether this is State or Federal) determine how much money to provide to the school district's free lunch program for low-income households.

Bluntly, we make well over double the median income for an Albany household. Two tech incomes will do that. So I thought that I could help by NOT reporting my income, keeping the median and mean incomes lower than if I were to report it.

As most people who've worked with government entities before probably already realized, the immediate assumption was that I was too embarrassed to report my income and Impus Minor came home yesterday with, "Guess what, Dad! I'm getting free lunches now!"

One more bureaucratic error I need to correct with the administration.

OMG! Win!

Impus Minor: "Dad, our English teacher asked the class whether we have any spare trail mix, granola bars, dried fruit, or other snacks she can give out during class."

Yes. Yes we do!

I was wrong.

School meals are all free this year, and California made free meals permanent. And apparently my balance is $22.25 on Impus Minor's lunch card.

I didn't ask for it back.

Who the hell calls in the middle of the night to demand that a 5 week old billing issue gets fixed? It's not like he just noticed it, he said he'd called twice before about it. I gave him the information I had access to, and told him that he needed to talk to a manager about it. So he tried bullying me by saying that "It's real easy for us not to send rooms to your hotel for the baseball tournaments we run. Real easy." I just though "Great! I hate those a@~**$+s anyways," but I didn't say it.

Also, he said that he spoke to me the first time, which I don't remember (it was over a month ago), and that the second time whoever he spoke to said that they fixed it and that I was "just being lazy". I wanna know who said that, because they're a lying piece of s*!*.

In case there is any doubt, this is an excellent way to get a hotel clerk to hang up on you. (Yes, this happened about 45 minutes ago.)

Person A *calls on speakerphone*
Me: *answers phone with approved greeting*
Person A: *yelling* "Y'all got any rooms!?!?!"
Me: "No, we are sold out."
Person B: *also yelling* "Well f~$@ you then!!!!"
Me: *hangs up phone*

With all of the craziness with trying to get Miz Daisy's house cleaned up for our move this summer, all the Professional Development and mandated annual trainings I usually catch up on in July/early August went completely out the window, so from Sunday to yesterday, I just caught up on 19 hours.
In addition to being back in the classroom for the first week of the new school year, and trying to unpack boxes and get us settled in and cook meals and do laundry and all that other crap.
I am freaking tired.
But at least I got my form submitted to my director, two days ahead of the deadline.

Any chance WW can take laundry or a couple nights of cooking from you?

This is increasingly common. Our school district has not made it permanent, but all meals are free.

This comes with the caveat that it is the basic meal that is free. Extras or substitutes are still fee based and they have encouraged us to fill a meal plan card with funds for such items.

E.g., if your child wants a granola fruit bar instead of the apple that is the basic lunch, it may cost like 25 cents. That would get charged to the meal plan.

Or say that they want a sandwich instead of the meatloaf. Again - a small charge to the meal plan.

So there is a reason to have the meal plan card even though the 'meal' is free.

Ummm... NO.

After 25 years together, I've learned not to trust him with grocery shopping or laundry, and seldom with dinners.
Not even vaguely in his skill set.
Or his mother's, either.

Geez.

Shiro has been annoying me with his constant statements that Impus Minor's in-person learning isn't going to last long. Impus Minor is so happy to finally have a set schedule, and time out of the house and with his friends at school, and...

Oakland schools are already having to go back to remote learning, at least temporarily.

Sooooooooo tired of it all...

Yep. That's exactly what it is here. I was just taken aback that as usual, the school district did such an appalling job of communicating this change to parents. I'm a firm believer in overcommunication - it's better to say something twice than to not say it at all. Having a school district where every month I get a new surprise that wasn't announced is unpleasant, to say the least.

And I loved Impus Minor's reaction to the whole thing: "Since lunches at school are free, does this mean you'll pay for it if I go out to lunch every day?"

No, no it doesn't.

Hello, everyone.

Wait... It takes a skill to make a laundry?!

I just put things into the washing machine, add a pellet, set the washing machine, and return to hang it when it's done...

Slowly getting close to finishing Breakpoint.

Now I wonder if I want to go through bonus missions of Amber Sky, Resistance, and Terminators...

Or do I want to finish the game already?

I've seen glimpses of a mythical past when the settings on a washing machine actually did something other than gurgle and slurp at different points in the process, but I'm not sure I'd believe that was the case without firm evidence. Everything has always comes out the same for me whether it's set to Filmy Negligee or Dung-Encrusted Boiler Suit, anyway.

I use 30-40 degree setting for clothing, and 60-90 degree setting for towels.

The high temp setting is definitely taking a lot more time than the former.

Some things will be ruined if they are washed at the wrong temperature, or the wrong agitation speed, or with the wrong detergent, or with other types of garments.

WW has repeatedly shown an appalling lack of judgment in such matters.

I have finished the final mission in Breakpoint.

It was so so.

The feel of mission flow in general was unimpressive, and the storyline and writing very uneven. There were some very nice touches, fun missions, and some appealing NPCs, while others were much blander.

Gameplay was an improvement over Wildlands, but Bolivia looked much better than Auroa archipelago (though in part it was a matter of Breakpoint having higher requirements forcing me into lower setting, also possibly lack of some higher end gfx functions).

Enemies had a tendency to be dumb - which without insane accuracy and near-superhuman perception of Bolivian sicarios, and with superior competence of your (otherwise much blander) companions made the game easier.

There are some sidequests remaining but I don't think I'll try them for now. On the other hand, I am unlikely to install this game again so they might end not finished forever.

In other news, earlier on this evening, one of the neighbour's relatives drove up in his very, very orange car and yelled out of its window:

"'ERE, I'VE BEEN TO [local pizza outlet] AND BOUGHT THEIR 24 INCH PIZZA. LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE BOX!!!"

At which point the neighbour came out, and presumably they both admired the very big pizza box, as I could hear the groans of ecstasy from inside my house.

I can't remember the name of the place, but there was a pizza place that we used to order from when we were WoD-LARPing in Northern Indiana that had a 18"x24" pizza and the price was reasonable (given the size of it).

On Friday nights the place would offer a deal on the price, and we'd always get two, which was enough to feed a score of hungry gamers.

And it wasn't something like Li'l Squeezers or Dominos, these were quality pizzas with massive toppings.

You're going to need a second packet of peanuts and three pints of beer before you leave work in the matter transference beam.

{adjusts foil-lined "Hisstoree Teechur" hat} While many are aware of Indigenous Americans pioneering agricultural achievement of planting The Three Sisters crops, few are aware of the similar discovery by goblin agriengineers to simultaneously grow the complementary Three Gamer's crops: the stalky Cheetous dangerousi cheesus plant, the climbing Doritous tortillamus vines, and the mini-ground vegetable, Porkita rindus. These crops alone are the backbone of the US national agribusiness economy, with annual net profits of over $148 a year.

There is no truth to the rumor, however, that Cheetos are Shub-Niggurath tendrils summoned into this dimension by erecting specially-attuned natural stone sundials. None. So eat all you want. Eat. CONSUME OF HER DARK MAJESTY'S FLESH
