Just my teeth and an still-present sense of vertigo.

earthquake?

Why yes.

The quake was felt in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York City and on Martha's Vineyard where President Barack Obama is vacationing. Cell phone service has been disrupted in New York City part of which has been evacuated.

The Exchange

Not to mention heading towards the east coast.

Hurricane Irene could be major threat to Eastern Seaboard

The Exchange

Seems like the east coast is about to experience a Flash Gordon serial.

Do we get a Queen soundtrack to go with it though, that's the question.

Earthquakes and hurricanes...

Cats and dogs living together...

If only.

Earthquake huh? I didn't feel a thing out here. Hmm

Me neither.

Yeah Urizen posted elsewhere he thought one of his dogs just passed gas.

We had an (ONE) employee report the building shaking here in MI. I think it was her lunch settling but who knows?

Unless you are real close to the epicenter many times it is hard to notice.

I have only experienced a small one years ago and in California. it was light and we were far away from it, and most people shrugged like it was no big deal. From the news it seems like people in NY are more shaken than Virginia.

Colorado apparently got the shakes last night, too. Hope all the mountain and right-coast Paizonians are OK.

*headdesks* Well, I tried. I'm sure the usual suspects will be along shortly.

It's amazing how my FB feed is blowing up with folks all atwitter about this 'Earthquake'. Lol

Well, that's mostly because they aren't as well prepared for a big quake. Anything over 6.0 and you start seeing the smaller, older buildings start to crumble.

Yes, well some people refuse to grow up and thinks the world revolves around their opinions.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Had a buyer for my couch and recliner, and they said they were coming to pick it up immediately. So I haul both heavy pieces of furniture out to the kitchen only to hear they aren't coming. I really wish I had the power to kill with my mind.

One day you'll have to come down to Philly so we can debate on whether Pat's or Geno's has best cheesesteak.
Wait a minute! You're here in Philly?!?

*sigh*

Been through this. I live up in Allentown, work in Cherry Hill. And yes, one Friday we're going to go get a beer. ;)

We have been? Crap! It's true. Having a kid does start to affect your mind.

My building in South Phill shook badly enough that they evacuated us for a bit. My kids daycare (Northwest Philly), on the other hand, didn't feel a thing.

People driving safely. Using signal lights. Whoa.

The streets seem empty. The grovery store isles are like HUGE. You don't have to push people out of the way to get what you want! It's amazing.

Why the f$++ did I ever leave?

I hgaven't heard too much about China and Manila but I have heard Seoul is absolutely crazy driving.

Just f+@!ing slabbergastered.

I hope you don't mind if I find these taken together as both informative and amusingly entertaining. Glad to have ya back.

Lunalynx wrote:

I was on the fourth floor of my building and felt everything shaking. Note that each floor is 20 feet in my work building, so it is like being on the 7th floor.

Shortly afterward, the fire alarm signaled us to evacuate. I have gone down the stairs many times for fire drill evacuations and evacuations for real fire alarms. I don't ever remember the stair traffic moving as fast as it did today. :P

This surprised me. So I had to look it up. Trinidad's pretty far South of us, so it doesn't surprise me that I didn't really know about it. Also, it happened around midnight. I was pretty well asleep when it hit and unless it was centered on my house, I would have probably slept through it.

Earthquake hit, but I didn't feel a blessed thing. Wife is a bit freaked out though.

The situation with my brother hasn't changed. I need to clarify one thing. He did not have a heart attack. That's the good news. Sadly, that doesn't that make me feel better.

He was in respiratory distress when he passed out and flat-lined. I suspect he had a minor stroke or some blood clot in his lung. I'm not a doctor or med tech. I still have a bad feeling in my bones.

We've cleared one hurdle as he when for his EEG and MRI scans this morning. I could think 9 or 10 one liners right now, but given the circumstance, they would be inappropriate.

Here's to another trip this evening.

From AP:

Even so, since 1977, there have been about 200 earthquakes in Virginia. The last "big one" in Virginia occurred on May 31, 1897, in Pearisburg; it was a 5.8-magnitude temblor that, in addition to cracking walls and toppling chimneys, reportedly caused a judge in the courthouse there to adjourn a trial, jumping over a railing and fleeing outside, according to the USGS.

There is a history of damaging quakes in the eastern United States, however. A destructive quake hit Charleston, S.C., in 1886, damaging thousands of buildings. Its magnitude was probably near 7.0 on the Richter scale. And in 1755, a quake with around a 6.0 magnitude struck off the coast of Massachusetts.

Double Edit: Oops! That didn't come out right.

Triple Edit: This is hole is just getting deeper. I think I better stop digging now.
