Oh I am all about some spicy food but my Fiance has a low tolerance. My Jambalaya was way over her tolerance. Also have to make mild curry's which is not how I prefer them... ah the things we do for love.

Yep, I have the same problem every time I visit Ebon or use one of her recipes. She grew up in Arizona so she's used to spicy Mexican food and similar cooking. Scint and I meanwhile have very mild tastes and I personally have next to zero tolerance for spiciness.
One of the first meals Ebon ever cooked for me I couldn't eat at all because it was too spicy. She had never encountered someone who had non-local spice tolerance and was very confused why I was complaining that her rather-mild dish was too spicy to eat.
And then there's the stuff her dad eats... too spicy even for her sometimes.

Just some kind of stomach bug. Been up and down since about 3ish AM. Hoping it's just something I ate rather than something more severe, but better safe than sorry, especially in AmeriCOVID.

I have a friend like that who basically grew up basically on peanut butter and jelly everyday. After many long years working with him I have gotten him to eat Thai food (albeit mild). It was a proud day.

Yep, that was me growing up. The spiciest thing I ever had as a kid were very, very Tex-Mex enchiladas or the occasional mild Italian dish.
According to Ebon I'd never encountered "authentic Mexican food" until I moved to Arizona, and even then the stuff I prefer is the watered-down version, the full shebang is even today still too spicy for my tastes.
And Scint sometimes makes me look adventurous with food, so that tells you where on the relative scale she is.

I think the most burnt up from food I've ever been was a authentic Korean restaurant They asked me how spicy I liked my food and I made the mistake of saying. "pretty spicy" The fact it was a angry red color and was served with nothing but tasteless bland sides should of been a "RED" flag. It was delicious though in between 9 glasses of water (which now I know water was a bad call but hindsight and all.)

I liked spicy food as a teenger, but lost tolerance or desire for it.
It was more of a mixed bag when I was child - I loved garlic and salt, especially quark/cream cheese with garlic, though I hated horseradish which was ubiquitous as my parents loved it (which I can eat now without issues, even buy it myself occasionally, though not offen).
Somewhere around 7, 10 maybe, I started to love black pepper but it passed somewhere between 20 and 30-somethingf. I never got the appeal of chillis, though, mild and sweet peppers are much better.
I deststed sour and bitter tastes, with the sole exception of sauerkraut and sour cucumbers (though I don't like them anymore). I find sour more palatable this days (sweet and sour sauce is one of the most brilliant inventions in the history of humankind!) but keep disliking bitter things (*cough* beer *cough*). Note that despite people calling dark chocolate "bitter" here, are completely in the wrong, as it isn't really bitter. Just less sweet.
I didn't destroyed my tatsecubs with smoking and/or drinking so I can tatse actual food, thank you very much.

I thought I was OK with spicy heat until I tried to eat Szechuan pepper soup in a Chinese restaurant (for Chinese people). What a sight I must have looked.

So My Fiance said she wanted me to make something with Andouille sausage but not jambalaya or gumbo. I said I'm not sure that is a option but i'll give it a try. I now realize what I was getting myself into but I think I've figured something out. Roasted chicken thighs over a pan of red potatoes with the sausage cut up and scattered as well. Probably throw a onion in their and marinate the chicken in something lemon garlicy.
This should work out all the right stuff is involved.

The Vagrant Infantite loves my mom so much. More than anyone but Tala and myself.
She squirms and wriggles and hates when B%&+&zilla tries to hold her. And Tala's ungrateful brother. But she is calm with Tala's stepdad, whom I am friends with.
She knows who I like and dislike and reacts accordingly! I'm so proud! And its the ultimate spite! Intergenerational spite!

My spice tolerance is a long arc. My mother hated to cook so everything in my early life was extremely bland and overcooked. By 11 I was helping my grandmother cook, and by 12 I was in charge of planning the menu for the week, generating the shopping list, and cooking for a family of 6 every night. But it was all very bland.
Then my mother made the fateful decision of buying me Joyce Chen's cookbook on cooking "authentic" Chinese food (even going so far as to say, "This will feed 5-6 Chinese, or 2-3 Americans"). Some of her dishes had hot peppers.
Ever so slowly over the years I learned to make curries using curry paste instead of Spice Island curry powder (truly vile stuff), and hotter and hotter Chinese dishes. But then I moved out and moved in with GothBard, and her tolerance for spice was significantly below mine.
So I occasionally made really hot dishes (I still remember making the "10 habanero curry" for the dojo), but for the most part since neither GothBard nor the kids are fire eaters most of the stuff I make is tame, meaning my tolerance is now moderate, at best.

Putin is reminding me more and more of Stalin: A ruthless dictator willing to sacrifice his own people in order to promote his country's agenda. Except without as much outright lunacy and paranoia.
Approving a vaccine before Phase III trials takes some guts. According to my readings, only 10% of vaccines make it through Phase III because they're either not effective enough or have too many dangerous side effects. So Putin's risking his country's reputation on a 10% chance that this vaccine is the "golden one". And he's willing to have his entire population be guinea pigs for his gamble.
It's so very gutsy, and so very Russian, that it's terrifying.
I honestly wish Russia all the luck in the world -- it would be amazing to have a vaccine this fast and to be able to return to normalcy before 2021.
But I'm sure as heck glad I'm not a Russian citizen. Being part of a 145-million Phase III trial of an experimental drug would be... less-than-ideal for me...

It's funny how when someone doesn't do something they think it's no effort at all for someone else to do something.
"Oh, you only have a few cuts left!" - Co-worker, cheerfully telling me everything I can do after I'm finished cutting the caps for the wall, entirely by myself.
Last time I checked 9 was more than a few.
On the plus side, since I'm doing it all myself without anyone helping me it's going to look f+&#ing amazing.

When Freehold and I eat at BonChon, we have to get our pile of chicken split to different spice levels. His ability to consume spicy food is prodigal. I tap out at about 4 out of 10. I don’t require bland food, but what Freehold manages to eat feels downright toxic to me. Kudos to that.

When I was in college, the cafeteria had a burrito bar, where underpaid kitchen staff made 'em for those willing to wait on a long line. One day I showed up during a somewhat odd hour and there was no line, so I asked for a spicy burrito -- because by American standards, I like spicyness. However I'm not versed in the specific sauces, so I literally just asked for "spicy sauce" on my burrito. In retrospect, the latina behind the counter may have read some unintentional male macho from my request, because I swear she smirked as I was breathing fire two minutes later.

I'm hating inservice week this week. We only have meetings in the morning, and since I've been on the early start team that's already been in the classroom for the last five weeks, NONE of it is new information. And I have the afternoons free to either work on classroom materials from the comfort of my home while my children fight or play music too loudly, or I can do housework.
But I don't have to wear a mask.
I made the mistake of letting Hermione stay up last night reading as late as she wanted because she didn't have school today and she just started Fellowship of the Ring for the first time, so she never actually slept, after not eating lunch or dinner yesterday because the adderall has been messing with her appetite, so she threw up twice this morning.
So I gave her a day's holiday from medication and she's been eating like a horse all day, and is totally fine. I told her no more staying up past 9:30 or 10, even on "vacation".
