Male Student: Wait, you're telling me the Queen [of England] doesn't do anything, but people still listen to her, and she's rich as hell? I wanna be a queen!
She drinks gin, and breeds racehorses, and walks her Corgis, and occasionally makes an anodyne, content-free speech, and waves at people and things, all for a handful of millions of brass pounds and the thanks of a grateful nation, because tourists would shun Britain were there not an actual wealthy old woman in a big house, who they couldn't see, very nominally in charge of the whole thing.

I only have the highest opinion of Tacticslion, always have, always will.
I'm just concerned something must be wrong with his computer because he hasn't favorite'd everything in couple of days, that's not like him.
If he needs anything (walls, patios, an ark carved out of stone) I'm here for him.

Hey now, I'm not a boring f~!*!
Yeah, that's right, I looked it up on the internet!
I'll have you know I live in the Midwest, have two kids, a dog, and have been married for 18 years, you're damn right I'm a boring f%@&!
I have to operate high powered saws and skid loaders to feel excitement after all.
In fact, the only way I could be more boring is if I lived in Iowa.

As far as I read, the only official duty of the monarchy was hosting foreign dignitaries...thus making them the world's most expensive party planning committee.

Hey, now! I have a life! You guys don’t even know!
... also, I’ve always wanted an eight-story octagonal stone castle with full electrical wiring, modern air and plumbing, a couple of elevators, and siege-and-assault-resistant walls, so... *hopeful face*
Vlaeros |
I just want a castle where I can run up a white flag with a red star in the center and set off fireworks whenever I want.
Raise the white flag! Raise the white flag!
Stop invading my castles dammit!
Look, Bow, we've talked about this before: you don't have plumbing and there are no beavers! No one is damming anything in the entire kingdom!

Buy the materials and I can build it.
Just so long as you don't wall me up in the dungeon when I'm done, I'm not falling for that again!
Look, man, I watched a nine-foot-tall mole marry a three-foot-wide spider this week.
I'm owed some things in life.
Disclaimer: this in no way accurately represents my view on my life. And the play in question was cute. Weeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiird, but cute.

HumbleBundle changes its formula. Now it picks a number of games each month and you can pick some of them to keep...
The price is higher for keeping 9 games ($15, I think, compared to old $12, $5 or something like that for 3...), though those who were subscribers prior to the change (*waves*) have a classic price of $12 per 10 picks. The catch is that skipping a month ends the classic without going back. So this is clearly a ploy to prevent me from pausing anymore...
At least this month's games were quite a nice selection. Well, seven of them, the rest are racing games. I don't do racing. Or driving in general, unless I have to (let's say that I am not particularly fond of driving even in Far Cry 3/4).
Blasphemous. A hard and annoying metroidvania that I played for five hours now. Ugh. My poor thumb :(
The game is interesting, very-very dark, though also have a deep issue with respawn points being few and far between... Which is a terrible idea in a game where you die constantly, often to overcomplex, finger-straining jump puzzles.
Shadow Of The Tomb Rider. Nice. Except I am stuck at the Rise because it barely works on my laptop. Another game under the "finish in the non-descript future when I get better computer"...
Sword Omen Legacy and Death In Vinland. We'll see what are they actually worth much faster than Shadow.

Sword Legacy: Omen is a very pleasant tactical game based, where you direct Uther Pendragon and Merlin across the Britain against some yet unspecified villain...
The banter between the party members is fun, though the party could include more than four characters (plus a fixed fifth one in some missions) and have more expanded character development.

Why is it that, whenever I think of the perfect gift for someone, it doesn't actually exist?
For instance. My kids love the Pratchett books for young readers with the Nac Mac Feegle in them. So I thought that it would be awesome to get Nac Mac Feegle garden gnomes and put them in the flower bed that the kids take turns watering.
Nope! You can get a Gnome Chomsky garden gnome, but no Nac Mac Feegles.
Teensy Valeros adores Weird Al Yankovic and listens to him constantly on his mp3 player, but has trouble with the lyrics. I thought, "Surely, a compendium of Weird Al's lyrics in paperback would be perfect for Santa to put in his stocking!"
Nope. Doesn't exist. Or, rather, there was a combo autobiography/lyrics book written, in 1985. Three and a half decades of awesome would be missing from it.
Meanwhile, what are the *only* things on their lists?
Hermione wants the *actual* Hermione's Yule Ball gown and earrings from the fourth film. Teensy Valeros wants an actual Ghostbusters proton pack "that really works and shoots real lasers".
When I was their age, all I wanted were books and a microscope. I got it. It was Porsche red.

It's possible that I'm just grouchy because I'm sick again. Or still. This upper respiratory thing has been on/off since before Halloween, but has never really left. I haven't been able to go running in the mornings, I wake up coughing at night, I'm low energy and my voice sounds weird. But my chest doesn't actually hurt, like it would with a serious bronchial infection, so I'm pretty sure it's not something that requires antibiotics. (I've had that once before, in college, and it was awful enough that I remember the feeling. All I did for an entire week was lie in my bunk and read all of Dostoevsky. Which was, I guess, how I did emo in the early 90's.)
WW packed a lunch for the kids and took them to the park and to Grandma's, so at least the house is quiet. He's going to drop them off on his way to work at 3, which means that I have three hours before I need to shower and pretend to be a responsible grown-up.

Proud Papa Moment:
While playing JackBox games, one of the questions for the group was, "Who would you rather fight? A handcuffed professional wrestler, or your dad?"
BOTH of my kids answered, "Are you effing kidding? You don't even need to give the guy handcuffs!"
Apparently, I am Scary Dad.
Cool.
I USED to be the scary dad.
When I put my mad/mean face on, they were scared.
NOWadays? They just sort of giggle at me. Or roll their eyes.
Or both. >_<

I know, both [insert random female fawtl here!] and takoyaki exist, but I can never get them in the same room simultaneously, and getting one to dance for me while I eat the other is likewise a long shot...

When I was Hermione's age, I would have killed for actual magical power, but this looks like a good sale on the dress.
When I was Teensy Valeros' age I wanted the exact same thing. Never mind that I would have run SCREAMING from the first ghost I saw, I wanted that damn proton pack, several traps, lessons on how to use it, and instructions on how to repair it and possibly make a new one if the old one broke irreperably. I would also want information on ghost weaknesses in case there was a ghost that was unbustable via proton pack means.

Six to eight black men is like our favorite Sedaris essay ever. I especially love his comment about "what really matters" about xmas.
Sorry you and yours are having such a rough time with teeth and dysgraphia. I had to have speech therapy in kindergarten (cute story, I couldn't properly pronounce my own name), and I was also diagnosed with...something so that I could have extra time for tests from K to 12. Didn't have to use it very often, but it was very nice to have.
Also, after I asked for book suggestions a couple of months ago I ended up going with Asimov's Foundation series, and I finally got to book 3. I read books 1 and 2 as a kid, so I'm very excited to see what happens next!

Aargh. It is, but she's so small that she wouldn't fit into it for at least five years.
I'll eventually just have to sew one for her myself. Maybe for her birthday next year. It's right around the time of a friend's wedding that we're all going to, so at least she'll have someplace fancy to wear it.

It was Monday HEMA group's Xmas party today.
Things degenerated very quickly into net & trident vs. whatever that spear with a knife chained to the bottom end is called, then net & trident vs. shield & shortsword, then net & shortsword vs. trident & shield.
Nets are actually pretty handy, especially against (not too long) pole weapons.
Then we went to the pub.

I should find out if there's anywhere to learn HEMA here. Sounds like fun and from what I hear is a hell of a workout.
