I kinda got frustrated earlier and went on a whole rant on twitter about this, but I've been having a lot of problems lately with my stomach not tolerating food and I have to eat tiny portions if I don't want to revisit my meals. Which has led to dropping a lot of weight way too quickly and none of my pants fit and it's frustrating because it's not really a good thing, but it's hard to convince people since I started out overweight. And I'm tired of the whole passing out thing because I can't eat enough. :(
But I did get some good suggestions for how to add calories to smoothies so that might help. Since I can just about always keep smoothies down.

Oh goody.

I dont know how I would handle life down by you.

Everyone assumes new Yorkers live each day like their last but that just isnt true. I dont know how I would be able to handle the very real possibility that a tornado, flash flood, or other natural disaster could destroy my life at any given moment. I would either drink a lot more or have a lot more kids.

Now, you understand what it's like living in the Midwest.
This is basically the weather from Texas to North Dakota all the way over to Ohio. Temperature varies, but the constant threat of major storms popping up with no warning is an every single day thing.

We're getting tornado warnings in some parts of FLA, too, today, but we tend to get pretty good projections before-hand.

That reminds me...

About a year and a half ago it came to my attention that I was inheriting a portion of the proceeds of a sale of farmland in Kansas. Today I received the final financial statement before they go in front of the judge to get it officially discharged and they cut the checks.

Apparently my great-grandfather in my paternal chain was a beneficiary of a trust entered in 1956, and they just now got around to selling this farmland that I didn't know existed.

I'm getting 0.75%. I'm rich. (Yes, it's still a useful amount of money and I'm not complaining.)

There's close to 90 beneficiaries now since none of the original trustees are still alive, and it takes 15 pages for the lawyers to show how all of them are tied to this single sale. Some genealogist is going to hit a gold mine with this document.

Amazingly, out of this group, there were only 4 they couldn't find.

Is Emma that one woman with the kid? 'Cause the first season left me with the distinct impression that it was the kid that was the magical savior archetype.

(I've not had the opportunity to watch more than season one, though it's on my "to-do" list.)

EDIT: Also, I really liked the first season, but I'm given to understanding nothing quite matches up to that quality again. Also, yeah, it's been a while since I've seen it... *cough*

I'll tell her you said happy b'day, she gets a big kick out of knowing that I talk about her here. :)

Yeah, Emma's the blonde ingenue with the kid. He does eventually attain phenomenal cosmic power, which he doesn't use because Reasons, but she's "the savior." Whatever that means.

A month ago Mrs. Sunrise was on the verge of giving up the show because the quality had gone so downhill, but now she says it's good again. I know she's in season six, but I couldn't tell ya where it goes downhill or comes back up.

All I know is that nobody ever thinks, nobody ever learns anything, nothing is ever resolved, and nobody ever dies.

Will it ride
The highways free
Somebody robbed

Now it's goin'

It was me.
Oh Mama,
Will the Lord On High forgive me,
For doin'
Such a goldurn

All ah taste is salty tears,
Every time
Ah drink mah beers,
And ah howl like ah'm in torment,
When ah sing.

The older the better.

I will unabashedly belt out Patsy Cline songs if I think no one is listening, and "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" from the movie "Rio Bravo" was one of the lullabies I sang to Hermione as a baby.
And I have a fondness for Hank Sr. and The Browns. And Willie.

LOL. I knew you'd "out" me.

But ugh. Last night Impus Major decided to be out 'til 3:00 am, then have a friend crash on the couch. Not only did I lose 2-3 hours of sleep (that I needed), but my back's all sore and today is the first day of a 4-day marathon of assaulting the boxes in the side yard.

Curse you, Impus Major!

But I'm sure he had fun, and I remember back when I was his age and there was nothing like roaming around with a pack of friends in the wee hours of the morning for no reason.

3:00 am is still late, though. I remember always wrapping up between 1 and 2.

So, since I'd had a bottom-of-the-barrel, "old" tech "smart" phone for the past five years, I am going through a bit of tech shock with the replacement phone the insurance company sent me. Apparently this one is "old" as well (Galaxy j7v), but it's making me feel like a caveman. And I'm being ultra-careful with it until the tempered glass screen protector and the otter box I ordered on ebay get here. I haven't even peeled the plastic film off of the screen. It's a bit unnerving.

Good news is that the power company has an incentive program right now that saves me $750, but I'm still looking at about $5000. Oof.

It really is kind of sad how our fear-based society has driven normally-rational people to do really out-and-out bizarre stuff.

As I've mentioned before, Albany is a low-crime area to the point that a lot of people don't bother locking their doors unless they're asleep or out of the house. The last home invasion occurred in 2014, and that was in the student housing, which is a separate city in and of itself.

Yet we still have people who move here from other areas and insist that they won't feel safe until they've installed a chain, a no-key deadbolt, a can't-break-it-down door stopper, a steel gate, or whatnot.

Whatever. Not my house. Not my money. Not my problem.

*Except* that I just learned that we had a friend crashed on the couch because his parents are one such couple, and they couldn't conceive of going to bed without all the locks in place, thus preventing their own son from coming home. And they wanted to sleep, so they told him to find somewhere else to sleep.

I know it's different in other areas of the country, but in Albany, "I'm sorry, son. You can't come home because we're going to bed and putting the house on lockdown so you can't get in," suggests some major traumatic experience in the family's past.
Which they haven't had.

*SIGH*

You know, NobodysHome, it's your birthday. And you don't want stuff. So how about I give you a chance to help your fellow man? Want to pay for my new furnace and air conditioner? I could probably allow that.

(Just to be clear, I'm joking. I can afford it, but it will wipe out most of my rainy day / home repair savings. Guess I'll have to start putting more aside.)

That said, having set hours for when your kid needs to be home and making them spend the night elsewhere if they miss their curfew could be good, if strict, parenting.

I haven't been to the house in question, but I'm betting secure windows (bars or whatnot) as well.

And yeah, if it were a simple, "If you're not home by xxx, don't bother coming home," I'd still be unhappy with it (yeah, having them spend the night somewhere else is going to make them better-behaved how!?!?!), but at least I'd understand that he'd broken a rule.

From his description of it, they just wanted to lock up and didn't want him to wake them up so they told him to sleep somewhere else.

Not something I'd do with my kids, 'cause sleeping somewhere else is where parenting nightmares begin...

And yeah, Strange Aeons is really beginning to get to me.

It was bad enough when it was, "Go to the house of a man with questionable associations, break in, and try to find some dirt on him. And oh, by the way, you need to rob him blind while you're there."

But the next section is, "A public official asks you to investigate a public library that has been haunted. Go in, deal with the haunting, and steal all the rare books and preservation supplies while you're there."

The AP is no longer relying on PCs being Chaotic; it's relying on them being out-and-out chaotic neutral or worse.

Reminds me of the worst section of Carrion Crown:

Barely a spoiler, but...:
In Carrion Crown, a noble invites you to his castle. You find him missing. You're supposed to rob every piece of furnishing in the castle, down to the freaking carpets, just to stay at WBL. And yes, this is the same book where when NPCs say, "Can you please save Mr. Noble's life," you're supposed to respond with, "Not unless you pay me," and then roll Diplomacy to maximize your payoff.
