My dad is easier with his birthday. I bake him a cake, which he loves. That is all he wants for his birthday, and its a nice tradition to make it together. Or at least, him licking out the bowl.

Duh. I bathed myself. A few minutes after leaving the bath I am covered with sweat again. Urgh.

Then take the bath with you.

When it is very hot I keep a plant sprayer full of cool water with me and when the heat on my skin gets unbearable I just spray my arms and legs and face. Forearms in particular seemed to help. when I don't have air conditioning is the only way I can sleep in the summer.

I just take cold showers. Painfully so.

I just wait 48 hours. It cools down.

So.... how slow are things around here?

I just handed off my next major course revision...
...for the AUGUST release of the course!

Good thing I'm taking most of July off...

Frack you, Arizona summer, frack you.

why live in the land of hellish summers when you can live in a place with 4 seasons?

First it was for the job.

Then it was for Mrs. Sunrise not wanting to take the Homunculi away from friends & family.

In eight years when they're both out of high school, we're moving back to New York and I shall harass you at gaming conventions as I did of old. Well, by accident that one time. We're going to snowbird in AZ tho.

*gazes impatiently at the calendar*

Not too bad. I've been watching a lot of educational Youtube videos, lately.

I have a choice as to what to order for dinner. Pizza or a Burger and fries. Opinions?

Yes, kiddie water, and also stagnant water.

I had a salad on Wednesday, but I'll keep that in mind next time I order.

Okay, so I read Freehold's post as a continuation of "kiddie water, stagnant water, salad with fresh mozzarella..."

*anything* might be in that kiddie pool.
Best to dump it and refill before using.

EDIT:
Which puts me in mind of the Monty Python song, "Anything Goes":

"Anything goes in
Anything goes out
Squash, bananas,
Old pajamas,
Mutton, beef, and trout!"

You could borrow your kid's costume and be NobodysGnome.
Or wrap yourself in cured pork and become NobodysHam.

Maybe he could buy a town in Alaska and rename it "NobodysNome".

Of course his grooming device is NobodysComb, and when he's really focused he's in the NobodysZone.

Finished watching Good Omens tonight.
It made me happy.
Now I want to go back and re-watch the old BBC Neverwhere miniseries.
Good thing I still have the discs.

Someday there will be a ten-season anime adaptation of Sandman, and it will make me very happy indeed.

G'night, John.

It rained a bit - no thunderstorms despite the thunderstorms and hail warning. So now it is 24 degree Celsius (about 75 F)... Before 9 am...

*sigh* it will be long day... Though I probably will go to sleep once I return from today's playtests.

He carves statues out of NobodysStone.

He stops pets from chewing out their stitches post-operation with NobodysCone.

He adjusts his treble/bass balance with NobodysTone.

But what about NobodysBone, I hear you ask? Gran, perhaps you would like to tell us?

Because it's been windy (and I destroyed my nose) I've been forced to wear a hat (I refuse to be the guy that puts his hair in a bun or ponytail, we have enough of that already in Madison). Unfortunately the other day when it was both warm and raining the mosquitoes sought refuge under my hat and proceeded to sting me along the hat line. So now I have this angry, itchy, no good, welt on my forehead.

On the plus side, after this and the nose I'll never have to itch a spot ever again (because of the discipline gained and distracted fondling/groping), and our marriage has never been stronger (also, in a bit of a plot twist, she's started to distracted grope and fondle me, so Mission Accomplished!).

One thing I've noticed about the landscaping industry here in Wisconsin.

I'm the only one that bought their own hat.

Everyone else just wears whatever cheap uncomfortable crap their company has or they get them free from various company seminars.

Its like I'm the only one that walked into Hot Topic and said "I want your best (light colored, deflects the heat) SpongeBob hat, please".

Its 24C here too, but there is a good breeze. So it feels fine outside.

It's 62°F (16.7°C) this morning. Might get up to 79-80 today. Unfortunately, a very likely storm is in our forecast every day for the next 7 days.

Zelda really liked Good Omens too. I just haven't had the time to watch. I'm still working on The Tick.

Yeah. Over 50. Check. Out 'til nearly 1:00 am at a metal concert. Check. Impus Major's graduation tonight with the who parents can't stand the sight of each other insisting on both going. Check.

Should be an interesting day...

Suddenly we have an influx of people who keep claiming that the system won't accept their credentials for logging in. Suddenly we have a lot of people that keep trying to log into the wrong domain. It's like they all woke up and got on a conference call to discuss how they could specifically annoy me this morning.

- The opening band (whose name I can't find anywhere) was surprisingly talented, but needs a better songwriter.

- Aether Realm was significantly better; they started off with some clunkers, but as the set went on they got better and better.
- Gloryhammer, was, of course, Gloryhammer, so they were a blast.

I never wanted to do another weeknight show again, but we figured, "Hey, it's Gloryhammer!" and usually the shows end before 11.

This one went 'til around 11:50 pm. Ouch.

Nothing like payslip math.

Got a 3.5% raise. Put 3% more into my 401(k). If everything on my payslip were percentage-based, I'd see a slight raise overall. Since a lot of the deductions are flat (health insurance, legal coverage, etc.) I'd expect to see a little more than that.

Instead, this paycheck is lower!?!?!?!?!

I will never understand how they calculate deductions for these things...

Did you slip over into the bracket where there is increased medicare tax to pay for the subsidies provided to low income/indigent folks that are purchasing healthcare?

Or it is possible that the extra 3% will be in the next higher tax bracket. Two income married folks always get screwed on taxes.

That's exactly the sort of thing I was thinking, so I was doing a side-by-side comparison of the two payslips. Because it's a slow, sleepy morning.

Federal taxes are a teensy bit lower (percentagewise), as are state taxes, and Social Security and Medicare are the same. The flat deductions are all the same.

In short, everything seems to add up in every individual slot, yet something's off with the overall total.

*SIGH*

Ah, well, work for a while, wake up a bit more, and figure out what the heck's going on. It's definitely in my pre-tax deductions somewhere, but it's taking a surprising amount of time to figure out where.
