I would at least look into it, moving isn't as scary as it used to be, with the internet and all.

Said the guy who has moved 30 (not an exaggeration) times in nearly 43 years.

WOW well you beat out my mom.

Anyone else think Cpt could be a career criminal? He's the fantasy role-playing version of El Chapo.

It's not as exciting.

My biological father was incredibly abusive towards me and threatened to murder suicide us all and since the state wouldn't listen we moved out in the middle of the night and spent fifteen years living off the grid, as soon as the summons would show up we'd pack up and move.

Edit: My mom divorced him when I was one and had married my dad when I was two, and they left the state shortly after.

That's really close to what my mom did. (more abusive towards her then us most of the time) Her problem is she kept finding men like that. It was her type for a long time. I like to think that's how I got tough because when I was close to big enough I started fightin them too. Made sure they left my siblings alone anyways.

The rest of the moving was because I'd gotten used to it and moved in with various friends around town and then when I hooked up with the General (who grew up in a small town on the same road and couldn't wait to get out) we really ramped up our wandering.

Our honeymoon was basically us driving around the western US for two months claiming to be "artistes".

I was lucky that my dad (I'm not calling the person that raised me almost my whole life my step dad, sorry if that comes out confusing)) is pretty awesome, I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for him.

My brothers were still dicks though, so that toughened me up (if you want to call it that) because they scapegoated me for everything they did.

Heh artistes. Well my biological dad was a truck driver so I got to do a fair share of traveling myself. well a few summers here and their anyways. been across most of the country anyways.

Yelp my brothers did that too the little (Expletives). I got blamed for everything.

How do I know it's summer in Wisconsin?

It's 7 miles from our shop to our job site.

I have to drive through 4 construction zones to get there.

Where I used to live at back in elementary in KY you could get stopped by the same train (Yeah you know it was a coal train) up to 7 times. I know this is only loosely related to your post but I can relate to the frustration.

I'm fine with it, traffic doesn't bother me, just wanted to point it out, I don't have a lot to say lately.

Speaking of stupid and annoying societal pressure, you'd be amazed just how hard you get pushed for financial aid when you go to college.

It makes me wonder just how much of the student loan crisis is caused by college costs themselves, and how much is caused by pushy financial aid banks foisting unneeded loans on people.

You all know I make six figures. Then GothBard has a tech job as well. Because of the costs in the area we're not swimming in money, but we're not hurting, either. Add to that that Impus Major is going to a community college while living at home, for an estimated cost of $1500/year.

And yet the high school counselor badgered us incessantly: "You need to get in an application for financial aid. What do you mean, 'No'? What if circumstances change and you suddenly need it? You should apply, just to see what you're eligible for! It can't hurt."
The college application had two pages dedicated to applying for aid, and it just didn't want, "No," for an answer.
Even my mother was worried about giving Impus Major a graduation gift of money for college because, "I've heard it might affect his ability to get financial aid."

So yeah, I could probably take out a $200,000 college loan for Impus Major and destroy his finances for life. Or I can just act responsibly and cancel some trips, concerts, and/or home repairs and pay for it myself. It's not rocket science, and I'm really, really tired of being in debt.

So it's a sore spot for me, but as usual, the first thing I think is, "How would people with less self-confidence react to this?", and I am nauseated by the implication that banks are ruining kids' lives in the name of financial "aid".

Grump.

Worked out fine until I was in college for longer than I needed to be and it was credit cards then. I was damn lucky.

That said, books and transportation were an issue. Still have memories of professors demanding we buy books. And of certain acquaintances doing unwholesome things to get books.

We finally saw Endgame!
I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats.
Then we burned a gift certificate to go out for lunch to a local Italian place (do you know how hard it is to find a restaurant that isn't a chain franchise in DFW?) and I made WW order a salad because Freya said to. But then we got cannolis. And I still have half an hour to myself before I pick up the kids.

I've been to the area a couple times. Yeah. It's chain restaurant heaven, but local places are few and far between.

There's a good sushi place way the hell out in Denton that The Adult Kid highly recommends.

My company used to have two offices: one in Irving, one in Dallas (just east of 635/35E interchange). The best thing I could find in the Irving area was a Jason's Deli. I never went to the other office in Dallas.

There used to be phenomenal Korean in Irving, but the owner died.

*SIGH*

Being jaded is a heavy burden.

So I LOVED Frozen. "Let it Go" was the primary reason I got myself a Pandora account. I unabashedly drink from a Frozen mug every morning, and hand-wash it every day.

So... a sequel is coming out.

And everyone is all excited and wants to know when I plan on seeing it.

"Never," is apparently not the correct answer.

But can anyone name a single non-Pixar Disney sequel that wasn't a dismal disappointment?

(I'll throw out The Rescuers Down Under, but it wasn't so much "sequel" as it was, "Let's re-use the characters because it's cheap.")

And the Savage Worlds campaign reaches a phrenzied conclusion, marred only by my character doing precisely eff all of any importance. O well.

I worked at Toys R Us, which played Let It Go every 32 minutes of every day EXCEPT Christmas season.

People wonder why I hum Christmas songs, and then I tell them it's to keep Disney at bay.

captain yesterday wrote:

Ok, yeah, that would have done it.

I wanted to hear it once every day or two. Or maybe, when I was feeling wild twice in one day...

Wow... we are in an honest-to-goodness June "heat wave", the likes of which I haven't seen since the Big Drought of the 1970s. (June of 1978, if memory serves).

Which means the last 3 days have been 92-102-95. I know that in Davis that would've been a nice "cool streak", but as I keep saying, in an area where we are considered "lucky" to have a single-room air conditioner, it's pretty big.

The secret is, the only non-Pixar Disney sequels that are any good are live-action rather than animated.

The best of the lot by far would be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (the one with Bill Nighy as Davy Jones).

Honorable Mention may be awarded to "Return from Witch Mountain" and/or "Herbie Rides Again".

Woooooow... there's no accounting for taste!

We consider The Fox and the Hound to be, bar none, the worst Disney film ever made (barring direct-to-DVD sequels).

It took us 3 days to watch it all the way through because we kept getting so sick of it we turned it off, then thought, "We really should see it all the way through," and put it back on.

But no, that doesn't fall anywhere near decent for us...
