I'm pretty casual with my injuries, I'm surprised more people didn't notice it.
I'm healing well enough, it's only been 24 hours.

Yeah, I've run CotCT twice now, and there's always the question, "Wait... it would cost 380 gold pieces a day for the Church of Abadar to put a daily Restoration on the king. So how much is he worth again, and why is he dying of a disease?"
Just have him die of a heart attack. Suddenly he can't be resurrected and it's all good...

That's what I'm doing for my COTCT anyway. Since I'm revamping it and rearranging it to be a bit more Locke Lamora-ish.

Past that point in our game but definitely stealing the idea for the future.

It’s been going for eight years. It’s quite a bit slower at the moment because I’m still ramping up after my unplanned hiatus, but yeah, there’s a lot to keep track of with multiple storylines running at once.

I walked out of my classroom about an hour and a half ago and am free until August 5th.
Tonight, the boss is treating the faculty to dinner and drinks at some swank restaurant uptown. Personally, I'd rather just take over one of the many excellent barbecue joints in town (there are SOOOO many!) and have brisket, ribs, and beer, but I'll dress up and go swank too. I'm easy.
Tomorrow we're going camping for four days up on Lake Texoma. I'm excited.

Speaking of death and resurrection, it's really tiresome to encounter another game where resurrection is commonplace, yet where the authors kill off an NPC in order to motivate the PCs.
The Final Fantasy series is rife with such inconsistencies, but this was Borderlands 2, and was particularly incongruous because we'd seen the NPC in question resurrected dozens of times, but this time it was different because.... why?
IIRC the Final Fantasy works on presumption that the death status is really an incapacitated condition, not actual death.
Borderlands had an explicit statement by the creators that New-U stations are game mechanic and not part of the game lore (which I personally think is a terribly missed opportunity), though the New-U stations quotes are hilarious and finely fitting the setting thematically. If it wasn't the case, they could be easily explained as super-tech 3d printers/molecular reassemblers that rebuild you and download the latest copy of your personality, and all the in-game deaths are caused by weapons that disrupt and erase the backup data of personality/body that are needed for resurrection.
If you're going to have *ANY* game where resurrection is a thing, don't use death as a motivator!!!!!
It's really not that hard...
There are different degrees of death, and death can be still used in this way. For example Vlad Taltos is fine fantasy series where resurrection is casual and assassination is commonly used as a warning, but at the same time there are multiple ways of offing someone permanently - soul-killing weapons, certain magics, degree of bodily destruction, time from death, and so on.

Back from the L5R sessions. Not much for me to do this time, recovering from face injury under the tender care of my opponent's sister (which has an eye for my fellow Scorpion as she is the other part of his Karmic Tie advantage that showed recently). The rest of the party done a bit more, trying to appease spirit of kappa whose body I killed on the last session, finding two samurai children that fled the attack on the village that happened prior to previous session and led to a lot of bad things, and promising to adopt those two as part of appeasement arrangement.
*sigh*
I say we need to get rid of that vile spirit as it explicitly declared no respect for Celestial Order and spoke with a dead otter.

I'm just catching up on the thread now, but I'm also glad you're relatively ok-ish.
So, it turns out getting catapulted over the front of a mini bobcat nose first into the hydraulic arm is NOT as fun as it sounds.
So, having mastered shaving bears, were you trying to expand your skills to shaving mooses? (meeces?) Or were you reenacting the power loader (bobcat) vs. xenomorph queen (conveniently on site cow) fight, and the cow decided it didn't want to be tipped? :)
Seriously though, really really happy you're not hurt worse.

*Waddles by Cap's place to offer a few back-pats, some well-wishes, a "heal up quick" comment and a stiff drink*
(Edit)...
*Tilts head slightly and gulps down both stiff drinks, before rummaging around a bit in his fridge and handing Cap a bottle of cold blood-orange-ade*

Welcome to being a teacher: 60 hours per week for 38 weeks = 2280 work hours per year, as compared to 40 hours per week for 52 weeks = 2080 work hours per year.
Teachers EARN those 14 weeks off!
EDIT: And I'll be honest: 60 hours per week is a light estimate. My final year of teaching I was working 85 hours per week. I know. Because it was one of the major contributors to my quitting a tenure-track position without another job lined up.

The entire Jhereg series is a beautiful example of how to handle death and high magic properly.
Yes, it can be done, and Jhereg proves it can be done extremely well.
The problem is, 99% of writers are too lazy to even do it well enough to make logical sense in their settings.
And that is what irks me.
In Pathfinder, once you're dealing with assassinations of monarchs ruling over tens of thousands of people, it seems like bringing along a bound demon/devil who can cast Soul Bind would be a no-brainer, and would get rid of the problem easily.

in the game I referenced earlier we just agreed players could come back from the dead twice(raise dead once, true resurrection once), while bad guys could only come back once.

Extra funny thing? It’s my very first GMing experience... I jumped right into the deep end with that one ;)I did try to run an in person game a couple of times. It turns out I am VERY bad at PBP. I am/was SOOOOOOOOO much better at PBEM. I love playing in person though.
That makes sense. Pbem would work better for a more structured approach. Making PBP work, from my perspective anyways, is a lot about cutting rules and streamlining play. Of course I also got into it in the first place via ye olde free form off topic game so I thought of it as more of a cooperative story exercise from the beginning instead of trying to stick to the format of an in person game. Which is also super fun. Just a different kind of fun.
