She gave the Mac a solid two months to try to get used to it and just couldn't, so now we have to replace her laptop pretty much immediately. This may affect my road trip plans.

damn. I'm sorry.

So, I do my utmost to avoid disparaging teachers, as they do a thankless job for ridiculously-low pay and are abused by multitudes who don't know any better.

But I'll always rip bad math teachers, because they're the ones who perpetuate math phobia, generation after generation. (And Impus Major has one of the stereotypical worst this year. "The more homework I assign, the better teacher I am!" Pah!)

Hmm...I dunno...

EDIT: So, I was curious. If you count only people of my own generation who I knew well enough to have over at my house and hang out, it's 2 cancer, 3 accidents, 1 suicide, and 1 homicide. All except 1 cancer before I was 30. That seems like a heck of a lot...
Ehhh...not to make this a contest...but before I was out of high school I knew at least 5 kids who didn't make it to 20 in a very rural area. 100 kids in my entire high school. It was mostly gun or car accidents. Usually without alcohol involved, oddly enough.
That's seriously depressing - I don't know anyone who's gone off before the age of 60, yet.
You started hanging around here before 8th Dwarf was gone, I think.

Duh. I meant to write "You haven't started..." Of course I noticed that 1 minute after the time limit for edits passed... :(

The good news continues: we found a weed guy just when I got steady income. He is reliable, punctual, and replies to texts.

Anyone who tries to find weed in America where it's still only semi-legal knows these are rare traits in a dealer.

I also found out up to 3 freaking ounces are no penalty and no court costs in my town. They can still sieze it but that's about it.

Tala grabbed a sack and has a smokeout planned for Valentine's Day.

Oh and she got sorta kinda a raise. More hours and benefits but same pay.

Hello, John!

I'm in Oxford.

I travelled down on the train and read 'Kushiel's Dart', which I quite liked.

My suitcase broke halfway on the walk from the station to the hotel, which I didn't like.

I ate Palestinian food for the first time, which I liked a lot.

I have found a shop across the road that sells Dragon stout, haha ha hey.

Some weeks just really want to hammer at you:

  • Last Friday: Learned about my $7500 tax increase
  • This Wednesday: Learned that the lead instructor, whom we've been begging for feedback on our new paradigm for a month, really really hates it and considers it unteachable. AFTER I worked harder than I have in 8 years to get it all done on time. Thanks for the prompt feedback, <expletive deleted>
  • This Wednesday, also learned that my brother's childhood best friend (and a long-time friend of mine) is at death's door
  • This Wednesday, also learned that I'm going to have to commute to headquarters for a few days to record the course because the instructor won't
  • Today, learned that one of GothBard's childhood best friend's parents are selling their house. On the one hand, the husband is a real estate broker (he helped us buy our house) and he's doing the selling, so it looks like a willing move. On the other hand, he and his wife have such a massive social network in Berkeley my only guess is that they're having to move to assisted living. Never an easy decision
  • In less life-altering news, learned that any attempt I make to replace my rogue with something more effective will be met with anger, so I just have to see what I can do with her

  • As they say, I still have my health, my home, and my family, so life is still good.

    Annoying, but good.

Honestly I tried the results and it's pretty good. I did go put a chicken drumstick on my lunch menu.

    You were busy shoveling snow.

    Long story short:
NobodysHome: Hey, everyone! We're really stinking up this AP and barely surviving equal-CR encounters. Since my rogue is the least-effective of the four PCs, shall I bring in a new, more effective PC that brings us closer to our expected power level?
Rest of Group: You can bring in a new PC if you want to, but your new PC has to be no better than any of ours.
    NH: ...

So yeah, "Our group sucks! Shall I bring in something to make it better?" replied to with, "Not if it's any better than our PCs," is basically a polite, oblique way of saying, "No."

So I'm adding levels of a luck domain cleric to my rogue, because Bit of Luck is practically as good as a bard.

Shiro's homebrew that he wants to get published. I think he set the standards for optimization too high. I'd get a bunch of cheesy optimizers from the boards or even possibly even play test it myself but well, it's his AP.

It is a very interesting and damning reflection of the "franchise effect" in our area. I used to love junk food: KFC, Taco Bell, McD's, Round Table... bring it on!

Unfortunately, once rents around here started skyrocketing and franchises were required to keep their prices at the national level, they had to start cutting corners somewhere.

Why they didn't just buy the buildings outright I'll never know, but the KFC, Burger King, and Taco Bell in our area are so much worse than their counterparts anywhere else in the country it's appalling. Shiro routinely eats at the Taco Bell near his house. He bought some food from the Taco Bell near our house, took one bite, and threw out the entire bag.

    It's really really appallingly bad.

So, combine that, plus the fact that Impus Major associates any illness he ever had with the last place he ate, and we can't do:
    - McDonald's or KFC because of Impus Major
    - Taco Bell or Burger King because of inedibility
    - Round Table because cost-cutting has driven them from "expensive but excellent" to "expensive and crap"

Living in a stupid-expensive area isn't all spits and giggles.

Still, grilled chicken or baked > fried chicken. Don't you save on flour and oil? Though you might need to buy spices for seasoning.

    The Exchange

Wingstop or any fried chicken fast food place then turn their fried chicken into baked/grilled chicken. Still good =) I prefer it actually since fried chicken in batter... Eh too much oil for me to stomach these days.

Oh, I vehemently disagree. The AP is no harder than any published AP, and he's meticulously following the published AP-building rules.

We just have an amazingly bad group:
    - A paladin who doesn't use his abilities nor buy decent gear, so a fighter without feats or gear
    - A rogue. 'Nuf said
    - A sorcerer who spends half his rounds casting buffs to make up for the fact that the party doesn't have a buffer
    - An inquisitor trying to be the lone standout in a sea of below-mediocrity. And succeeding.

And no, I don't want to just quit and play a bard. That's just an annoying cop-out.

    The Exchange

One of my favourite to go to meals these days is grilled catfish with half a plate of boiled broccoli. The catfish is salty enough that I don't need sauce on it and eaten with the plain broccoli makes it fine.

    The Exchange

Too much undead and incorporeals sort of neuters a lot of PC abilities(like witches would cry). And rogues can't sneak attack. And I read from you talking about it that Shiro has a rather devious streak to him.

LOL. The White Castle around here had to shut its doors in the 1980s because by then teenagers had enough taste to avoid the place like the plague, and all the oldsters who liked it died off.

But we were warned at the very beginning of the AP that it would be an undead-themed AP, and I chose to play a rogue instead of a cleric anyway. So that's totally on me.

Maybe I could give the same treatment as we give the horses...
Small tube down the nose w. lubing and numbing agent (you're used to it by now ^^') to poke hole in any gas/air blockages…
No gas? Then is a slightly bigger hose and attempt to pump a olie'n'fluid mixture through your intestines (just mixed in a bucket and used with a fancy hand-pump)...
But I'm kind of guessing we're passed that simple a procedure and looking at more "invasive" measures?

    *Nods*

Immunities like can really suck for some characters…the good old "immune to mind affecting" seem to crop up more then anything else, which can be frustrating fro casty types.
Aren't most corporal undead still subject to precision (and critical) damage though?...or is it one on those "per individual monster description" things?

You played a rogue because you bet Shiro would put all kinds of traps in his dungeons and no one else would do it. Not sure if he said only core and APG for resources or I'd try seeker life oracle. And also maybe because you wanted to break the groups thinking that all groups need a dedicated heal bot.
