At least you have infrastructure for bicyclists. I was amazed to see bike lanes and paths in Ohio, as Florida is among the worst in the nation for cyclists, and Jacksonville, where I lived 10 years, top 3 worst cities in tbe nation among multiple surveys.

I eagerly await spring to take my bike out and pedal on the regular again as I did early fall.

why are you waiting?

Pah. Vengeance is its own reward.

It really isn't. It never feels as good as your wronging felt bad. It never makes the pain go away.

I could give my gf a pair of pliers, a blowtorch, a knife, some salt, a car battery, and four days with her ex-husband tied up for her to torture, but it wouldn't make the PTSD from his abuse of her go away. She'd still wake up in the night crying with flashbacks and nightmares.

...and no amount of "but you got him back for it" would make the memories go away.

that doesn't sound like vengeance. That more sounds like justice.

Then again, I have been told I am vengeful person whose sense of justice is warped.

Return of the Runelords spoiler:
Is it wrong of me to be annoyed that Return of the Runelords appears to have redeemed Sorshen? I get a really strong "author's favorite, gotta write a way around to not let her get killed off" vibe.

It admittedly doesnt matter hugely to me as I'm doing each Runelord their own individual plot rather than cramming the last four into a single storyline, and my Sorshen is going to be half Ileosa, half Nyrissa with their respective plots combined, but it does bug me regardless for some reason.

That said, I am pleasantly surprised to see Alaznist steal the final boss spotlight rather than the predicted Sorshen or Xanderghul. That was a nice surprise. But still. Can be pleased at one part and annoyed by another just fine, after all.

I haven't read any of the Return AP yet. I have it, just haven't read it. I tend not to read them unless I'm planning on running them imminently. And even then I have trouble remembering what I read because of the way the books are written versus what my group (pick one - any one) will do to change things.

I asked this in FAWTL's Discord (invites on request!) but I'd like to get opinions here too. =)

I've been meaning to get started on working on one of my many story ideas, and I figure this weekend is as good as any.

So I'm gonna ask you guys. Which of the following stories sounds most interesting to you?

1 - a war heroine claws her way to prominence amidst distrust and betrayal while a monster from the dawn of time wakes to ravage the land

2 - the story of a fallen villain's redemption and a continent wide conspiracy lost to her burned away memory

3 - a Nature vs Technology story with a few unusual twists

4 - a tale of an impending apocalypse at the hands of a scheming kobold

5 - a story of a group of heroes who defined the landscape of their homeland with their impact on history

I may be a tad... excessive... about planning and scheduling my plots in the future, at least in NWN. Less so in PnP.

Sometimes, life hands you pooping unicorns.

While I'm embarrassed to even remotely call it "hardship" compared to Freehold or VE, money's very tight right now (always is at the end of the year), so when the Prius started making a very unhappy noise on Wednesday, Shiro suggested a possible universal joint replacement, and I saw the $2000 price tag, I was thinking, "Can we make do with one car for a while?"

Well, it turns out it's just a set of wheel bearings. Still $700 I didn't need to spend right now, but for us that's an absorbable cost, and $2000 wouldn't have been.

Thank you, unicorns!

It's great that my brothers are finally remembering I have kids (now that our son is old enough to notice, god forbid a girl would want to do anything).

It's not okay that their idea of spending time with them is to go snow tubing at Cascade Mountain at night on New Years Eve (I declined, going with my go-to excuse "we already have plans").

I mean seriously, what the f*%%.

You want to give them life experiences, how about one (just one) where they don't run the risk of getting injured or paralyzed.

I would fire them all out of a catapult, but they weigh too much, so I'd get done with all that cranking (while hearing how I'm doing it wrong) and then they'd just plop on the ground next to the catapult, and then being polite, I'd have to invite them to stay for dinner (which they'll insist on going to a restaurant).

3 (that's a campaign I'd like to GM or a story to write myself, with sides that are in various shades of grey, without blatant black vs white), followed by 2, followed by 1. With possible 2 and 1 being the same...

Fallen villainess turned into unlikely hero that needs to save the world from an ancient beast? Maybe she comes from the dawn of time herself?

*makes notes in case Orthos won't use the idea*

Ah, sometimes being taste-free eccentric is delightful.

I'm off to GothBard's company wake holiday party (yes, one week after they laid off 60% of the workforce they're throwing the survivors a party), so I'm in black slacks, dress shoes, a black button-down shirt, and a purple tie. And Impus Major took one look and said, "Wow, Dad! Where are YOU going?"

I used to have to do slacks and a tie for a living. I clean up good.

Oh, don't even get me started. I will go full-blown, all-out nuclear political.

Let's just say that the number of social events they have attempted to exclude GothBard from, or even failed to even acknowledge her existence in the invitation, numbers in the dozens (if not hundreds).

I have once attended such an event (the Fake Russian's bachelor party), and GothBard is still bitter about it, because she (rightly) points out she would have had a LOT more fun drinking shots of vodka off Lenin's head than she did at *gasp*... a Chinese restaurant!

(Keep in mind that in its 1.5 miles, Solano has roughly TEN Chinese restaurants, so going to Vegas for Chinese was something the Midwesterners were very excited about, but GothBard was pretty fricking unhappy to be getting P.F. Chang-quality food while the guys were at a high-end steakhouse.)

I'm going to just thank my fortunes that this hasn't happened with us. There was never once any attempts to exclude Ebon from anything my old gaming group did, and I don't see her or Scint putting up with that nonsense in the future.

As a member of an arch-conservative family, I have never experienced this. Weeeeiiiirrrrd.

(There have been “girl things” and “guy things” but never - NEVER! - have major family events had anything resembling planned exclusion. )

Sometimes "girl things/guy things" ARE the exclusion, speaking as a girl who would rather go to the WWI Museum than get my nails did. It's the assumption that "you are [gender], so you obviously aren't interested in [activity]."

I'm lucky in regard to my family - I'm far more likely to lose contact than they are (I'm really bad at using the phone), so I know from experience it will hurt them more than me if cutting ties ever becomes a necessity, which means it will be very unlikely to ever be a permanent split.

For other ties, however...sometimes it can be a fun thought exercise to find the best napalm mixture for the metaphorical bridge. Because fireworks are pretty.

Sure, but the activity is generally tailored to the person being celebrated - if that’s the case, Injust ignore my interests and celebrate them, ‘cause, you know, that’s why we’re there. If no one in particular is being celebrated, it’s a group activity mostly tailored to the expressed interests and general preferences of everyone involved, and isn’t a gendered thing in the first place.
