Our worst story was when I was sick with a 103-degree fever and NobodysWife stopped by the post office to drop off a letter while driving me to the doctor.
While I was there for 5 minutes, unconscious and feverish in the car, we got a parking ticket!
NobodysWife looked around, and INSIDE A FRIGGING TREE was a "no parking on the 4th Thursday of every month" sign. She took a picture so she could contest it.

LOL. Hey... errands don't go away, even when hubby is sick! :-P

I'm no mechanic, but even I know if you charge the battery for three days, it's not the battery.
Also never buy a
usedJaguarand have it delivered without test driving it.And finally, don't get it right as winter alternate side parking goes into effect, those tickets ain't cheap.
FTFY.
Seriously, doing a paper route in the Berkeley hills, we knew at least 6 people who'd bought Jaguars as "prestige cars", and then within 1-2 years given up on trying to keep them running because the costs were just too high and left them as high-priced low-class ornaments sitting in front of their houses...
...and yeah, I'm old. This was the early 80's. But car companies change at glacial paces. I'd still be suspicious of a modern Jaguar...

OTOH if you want a padded room, a nice white jacket, and your Hannibal Lecter mask, you can start here.
No one starts there. That's how we save on Hannibal Lecter's masks.

I come home from an awful day at work AND first parking ticking to discover my wife looking up at me guiltily and in shock.
She was not expecting me home this early.
She said it wasnt what it looked like.
But I come home to my wife watching GOOD EATS WITH ALTON BROWN'S FACE LEERING AT ME ON MY BIG SCREEN TV I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING DIVORCE

Truly, this is a trying time for you my friend. ;)

One of the saddest things anyone ever said so I heard it was "It's immoral to commit homosexual acts! We must all stand firm and not give in to that temptation!"
I kid you not. :(
The saddest part for me is that I've learned to understand where such people come from. If I were gay and lived in a cultural bubble where I was convinced that everyone was gay and had authority figures drilling odd bits of scripture into my head my whole life, I'd think that societal collapse would be a natural and terrifying result of 'immoral homosexual acts' too.
Greater understanding is a powerful but often saddening thing.

I guess I really need to send you a Christmas card. I think they have some Firefly Christmas Cards. Or perhaps a Buffy or Angel Christmas card?

I think it's the ones where the Firefly crew comes to Earth to pick up the Avengers, Buffy, and Angel so they can all fly off to worship at the altar of Brown...

What's funny to me is that I find Alton Brown interesting in terms of food science -- listening to him explain the chemistry and physics behind why ingredients do what they do is fascinating.
But watching him cook? As a chef, he's third-rate at best.
I'd listen to him tell me what was going on in the dishes I was cooking, but if he tried to put on an apron in my kitchen I'd string him up by it...

Speaking of aprons, I am afraid that Blue Apron is rapidly declining to the point of cancellation.
Their dishes are, quite simply, a heck of a lot of work for not a lot of payoff.
As I mentioned before, every vegetable is, "Slice it thin, drizzle it with olive oil, and bake at 450 for 20 minutes."
There are OTHER things to do with vegetables than bake them to death, you know...
Panko cod with no sauce was... boring, to say the least. But it was far better than the beef-and-lamb tacos we had last night where the meat was at least 20% fat. Tacos swimming in a sea of grease (even after draining the meat, which the recipe didn't even suggest) with questionable seasonings was... sad.
It's reached the point that I can categorically state that, given the exact same ingredients they give me in their little packets, I can make something tastier and better-prepared in half the time. At this point, the *only* reason to follow the recipes is because the kids enjoy it. I told them I was going to cancel, and Impus Minor insisted he wanted to keep getting it.
But it's been a solid series of strikeouts for the last few weeks, so pretty soon I'm just going to open the boxes, throw out the recipes, and just Iron Chef it.
I think it'll be easier and better.

Have you considered getting them their own cookbook. :-)
Oh, we have a whole bookcase full of excellent cookbooks. I liked Blue Apron because I thought it would add variety. If you go to the web site, you see Japanese, Mexican, Chinese, American, Italian, and so forth. A nice range to get the kids introduced to various cuisines.
But this week's dishes are broccoli beef on "garlic-infused" rice (brown 2-3 cloves of garlic. Add rice. Excitement?) with squash on top, because it's not Blue Apron if you're not peeling squash, and pasta topped with a chicken breast. (And I'm sure there will be a squash in there somehow.)
Just... boring stuff.
I think I'll just get some of the better cookbooks set out and have 'em roll dice to pick a recipe. 1d20 for the book, 1d1000 for the page, and we have to cook whatever it is.
Now THAT would be interesting...

Hard to tell if resting is helping me feel better. I mean, I know it helps, but really how much.
In the meantime, I'm damn bored, and I kinda feel left out of the reindeer games.
Also my analogies are getting worse exponentially compared to how shitty I feel. Much like how Gandalf must've felt after watching The Five Armies for the first time.

Medical scam Update:
Manager tried putting me in for short-term absence.
Coming too closely on heels of health scare, triggered automagical need for doctor to release back to work.
Had nice talk with Benefits to explain that it'd cost *more* to get doctor release to go back to work than any sort of benefit realized from that absence compensation.
Agreed off-setting penalties, replay first down, no pay, no stress.

What's wrong with Alton Brown? Good Eats is amazeballs, and Cutthroat Kitchen is stupid reality TV at it's finest.

I have my first day off in over a month tomorrow, and I don't know what's more exciting. I found out that a WW2 aircraft carrier is moored in Alameda as a museum ship and I'm taking the ferry over there to go see it, and I also have an IMAX ticket to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them at the Metreon tomorrow night.
