WHY ORDER A BREAD BOWL?!

YOU MONSTER!

Truly, some people really do want to watch the world burn.

Maybe the bread was stale. I've gotten stale bread at Panera before.

Either my CotCT hardcover will arrive today, or Monday, it's in town, i just don't know what facility (there is a central processing facility and then it's distributed to all the different post offices) hopefully today but most likely Monday.

Color me irritated that they sent me a UPS tracking number that isn't showing as valid, then my order status is rather mysterious:

Order Status wrote:

Shipping Method Standard Postal Delivery

Estimated 4 to 8 business days in transit
Package Tracking Not yet shipped
Item(s) have already shipped

In other words, they sent me a UPS tracking number for something that's supposedly being sent USPS, and the tracking status is that is hasn't shipped because it's already been shipped!??!?!

If it weren't Paizo (with whom I've been doing business for years), I'd be seriously worried about this tracking nonsense.

That's okay, the last tracking info I got was the fourth when they handed it off, until this morning when someone updated everything when it got to Madison, as if it went from Redmond, Wa to S&$~hole, Ill to Madison all between 6-8 a.m. this morning. :-)

Edit: No mail today, so Monday it is.

Many times, UPS (and DHL) are the contracted shipper, but then they hand it off to USPS for "last mile" delivery because it's cheaper for them, and your USPS carrier has to drive the whole mail route regardless of who gets deliveries/pick ups or not.

Likewise, UPS and DHL both seem slow uploading tracking info into USPS's system. Don't know why, just that no info/weird info is normal (I was only a USPS carrier, so I don't know the behind-the-scenes on how the tracking coordination works.)

Has anyone ever won a challenge on a food show by making a deconstructed burger.

I was watching "Chopped" last night and a Scottish guy was doing exactly what I would do: Cook each ingredient separately to highlight its distinctiveness, and serve them in a way that all their flavors blend well at the end.

He was cut in the first round.

So my guess would be a good strong "No".

It's from Hell's Kitchen last night.

And then he topped it off with his second dish being some sort of dry pathetic chili.

Hilarious. :-)

My brother and I went out for Turkish food earlier on, then went to see someone trying to reproduce 'Endtroducing' by DJ Shadow live, with no samples. They did a pretty good job, overall, the drummer especially.

After that, I had to explain the theory and practice of [Flaming bike redaction] to him on nothing stronger than blackcurrant squash, which was a bit of a strain, let me tell you.

Well, I'm home. We didn't stop in Georgia because the hotel there looked even rattier and nastier than the one in Montgomery. We made the nearly eight hour drive back home (when you combine the trip to Tifton and from there to Jax).

We have water, and only our fence is wrecked, but no power yet. Luckily I have tomorrow off. I just hope I get to spend it playing videogames...

I gave up on Windows Update for Windows 10. I went in to Administrative Tools, open the Services applet, and disable the Windows Update service.

I set up a reminder to go in every couple weeks, turn the WU service back on, install updates, and then re-disable the WU service again.

~tired sigh~ So tired and I have to work until at least 7 am, maybe later. Good news is both my house and my Mom's are ok. No damage to either. We do not have power to either house. Bad news is both of us have trees down or trying to get down. The house next door had a tree that totally took out the power lines. I have a tree leaning towards one of my neighbor's corner of their house but another tree is holding it up. Our seven indoor cats are ok and three of the four outdoor cats showed up. The little bit of Savannah that I was able to see is a mess. The City has been doing their best to remove trees and get power back up, but it is a lot of work to do. My guess is that we will be out of power for at least three more days, maybe even a week. Financially this has really hurt us. I am using bill money to pay for the hotel, food, and other stuff. Not happy about that! On the plus side, I had charged up my battery backup for my computer before I left and then unplugged it. When we got back, we used that to power the Litter Robots and get rid of the cat crap. The house now smells a lot better. Both dogs were amazing in the car and at the hotel room. They may become travel dogs. I was upset leaving the cats, but they are starting to forgive me (not the wife who they do not blame at all, but me who they blame for EVERYTHING!!!), for the most part. Especially after I did my servant's duty and made sure the litter was clean and they had more food. Three of the cats are still avoiding me. I guess three days alone without power will do that. To err is human, but never expect a cat to forgive. I am sorry that I was not able to meet up with TGTG. I think we both were at the same FLGS at different times.

Sorry for the long post, but I had to get that off my chest. I hope everyone is ok and I am glad that we got lucky and avoided most of the mess. Glad to be back.

Addendum - My brother does have some damage to his house and my sister-in-law's grandmother had a tree fall on her roof. My Mom and her boyfriend went to a state park and then to a shelter. One of his dogs almost died from heat stroke due to being in the car. My wife pulled off a miracle and got them a pet friendly hotel room less than an hour away from the shelter. We gave them directions and the got there after a bit (of way too much drama for me!!!). The boyfriend was wanting to come back to his house today, but the wife and I convinced him and my Mom to wait another day. My Mom's boyfriend and I will be having a little talk soon. I will not stand for too much more of this from him, no matter how much I like him. OTOH being in the hotel room cooled off their tempers and put them in a better mood! Thank you Honey for doing such a good job and going above and beyond the wifey duties!!!

On the one hand, I'll be spending the rest of the holiday season working my ass off to make money to make up what I just spent on airline tickets. I also have a grueling 20 hour flight at the end of holiday travel season, and will be high over the Atlantic Ocean as the clock strikes New Year's.

On the other hand, on the afternoon of 1st January I plant my feet on British soil for the first time, ready to spend the week being cold and wet as I explore London.

It's actually a 10 hour flight. Time goes forward 8 hours. Will still be greeting the New Year in the economy class of a 747 over the Atlantic.

Well, it'll be my first ride in a jumbo jet.

Sorry, Sharoth. Wifey was so sick she was having trouble knowing where she was, and I was really grumpy from lack of sleep. Not really a good time to be friendly, you know? Glad you're not worse off than you are from the storm...we made out well, too - only our fence was wrecked.

NP. I do hope that you and the wife feel better soon!

P.S. - We will really have to get together sometime in the next year or so. Even if it is just a day trip to have lunch.

London is one of my favorite places in the world. It's one of those amazing places that you couldn't imagine living, but that's just way over-the-top fun to explore.

Have a blast!

Sharon I'm glad you are doing well physically if not financially and I'm glad the cats are okay. This could have been much worse than it was, yes, but you are still dealing with some issues and those need to be respected. There is always going to be someone who has it worse, but you do have the right to complain too.

I was repairing my roof for the first time ever. That is different. Being 20-25 ft up on a slanted surface cutting and replacing shingles removing fallen branches and sweeping up the loose stuff.

No it's just wind damage. Sometimes it can get pretty windy and I have a lot of trees.

Although you probably would have gotten a good laugh at me that day. The weather played a joke on me by knocking the power out just as I was getting in the shower. It is weird showering in the dark. Then after my shower I spent 15 minutes finding my flashlight and just as I turned it on the power returned...

normally, I would make a quip about watching you bathe, but I remember what it is like to shower in the dark...it is one of the most surreal and frightening things I have ever done. Something about the water and the darkness... Terrifying.
