I don't think anyone has asked you to stop. I think in general that's a useful thing to do here, among internet friends. Even though my biggest "I wish I could talk to FAWTL for advice on this screwed up thing" is off limits here, I would never want anyone else to feel they couldn't come here for advice.

Take care.

Seriously, thank you and all the rest for your responses. I really don't mean to be the resident drama queen here, and I feel bad for making you guys my support system.
That's what we're here for. Everyone needs friends.

You do seem to be getting a large portion of the TOPs lately, Bitter Thorn!

Thanks for the well wishes. I called last night to wish my dad a happy birthday (yes, this all happened on his birthday), and they seemed reluctant to talk about it, except for a few choice caustic comments about the various personality traits and maturity level of grandma's husband from my dad. I let it go, though I let them know again that I'd be happy to talk to them about it anytime they needed to vent or talk things over.

Much as I'd like to know more, I figure they've got enough craziness without having to rehash it again at my dad's birthday dinner.

This makes me think of the robot hand episode of Big Bang Theory.

Did I mentioned that when I was 18, my history teacher told me that I was born cynic?

I was so proud.

The question is, did your history teacher mean that in the original meaning of the Roman sect (where they were basically ascetics) or the more modern definition? =)

Some of my ToPs seem quite odd lately.

These late life health issues can be maddeningly frustrating. Sometimes there are no good options, and we just have to muddle through and try to make the least bad choices.

It sucks, and I hope something can be figured out to give everyone some peace with the whole situation.

Of course not. These are the kids whose parents show up at conferences, disregard all the emails and reports you've sent about "Little Suzy is disruptive and inattentive in class and has turned in exactly one assignment all semester" and ask you "Why do you hate my precious little angel, and why won't you give better than a D?"

An interesting story about my daughter's math homework years ago.

teachers are people too. This is forgotten so often in the equation it isn't funny. They aren't always right and they certainly aren't perfect. But most of them deserve better treatment than they get, as do most students.

Yeah, it's tough to see my grandma in this state, and I can understand her husband's frustration in her being mostly healthy physically, but she's completely mentally unstable. He's so busy seeing his own inconviences and frustrations he can't take into account anyone else's, or their very real concerns that him taking her home will kill them both.

My mom's a geriatric nurse - has been for about 20 years - so she knows a lot about care, good and bad homes in the area, and a ton about end of life issues. It's hard as hell on her to be held responsible by the rest of the family on both sides for all aging relatives. :(

*cough* Greek *cough*

And I am bits of both in my attitudes but much more of modern definition.

She was a nice lady and an adequate teacher, but she really struggled in her last couple of years. She admitted she was badly burned out, and rumor was she had some personal challenges too.

Sam had more than her share of bad behavior, and the fact that she is strong willed and we raised her to think for herself and challenge authority didn't make her easier for the schools to deal with.

OTOH there were times when the school system was flat out wrong, and they even broke the law on more than one occasion. We met with the school board with our civil rights lawyer at least twice. We were fortunate to be in a financial position to afford a laywer then, but this is a very blue colar area, and more than few folks who couldn't afford lawyers got shafted.

Considering how adversarial the relationship with the school distict became it's remarkable that we were able to work as well as we did with the staff of her charter high school until she graduated.

Bluh, yes Greek, I'm out of it today.

Shows me for posting mid-workday.

I thin that there were some change between Greek cynics and Roman ones but I can't recall. It was so long since I had ancient philosophy... Uh, I am out of studies for eight years now? And I was one of the older students... How that time is running.

Well, Dave made plans to meet Jess and Mike at the convention, little realizing that the pair had signed him up to participate in My Little Pony Cosplay. Meanwhile, Max and Gary's weekend plans were disrupted by a sudden change in the weather blanketing the entire city in a massive dust storm. And, across town, Scott and Patrick's adventure through....No, wait! That's my soap opera!
I don't know the new ponies. :( I still have mine from childhood, however. Poor Melody got run over by a lawnmower...

join us, Jess Door... Be a part of the herd.

I have a lot of friends that hated the ending of Mass Effect 3. I thought it was pretty awesome. There's an alternate ending in the works in a deviant art comic that was better, but all in all I really enjoyed the series. :)

I"m sad they're doing the movie with a male Commander Shepard, however. I really loved femme Shep.

It was hilarious to read some of the hard core video gamer forums on the series though. A lot of complaints from guys that Femme Shep wasn't girly enough. She's a frickin' elite space marine that happens to be female! Argh! Go stare at Miranda's butt if you need T&A. Femme Shep has Reapers to eviscerate.

I loved the ending and I thought it was very fitting. I have no interest in the alternate ending that was made available later. I think my sons' liked the ending also but I haven't been able to ask for fear of spoilers. Now I can.

Her voice was perfect, the romances are fun, she's got the right tone, and is my favorite female kickass rpg toon ever. I love that she's a space marine first, not T&A first, all other considerations after.

I would have been pissed off if femme shep was like Miranda. Whiny spoiled brat talking about how hard it is to be perfect as she wiggles her ass in your face. Pffft. Whatever. Femme Shep has a problem, she pulls a gun or punches you in face. Unless she's in a good mood, then she yells at you. RAWR.

I will forgive Bioware almost anything for giving me a female rpg toon that kicks so much ass. It sucks that it's so hard to find a strong female protagonist like that, but I was thrilled to have it once. And expect to have it again.

Femme Shep is t3h awesome. It is also worth noting that she may, if in a pissy enough mood, singularity your ass.

I am going through a similar debate with a friend of mine. I love fem Shep. She's smoking hot to me. Then again so are the t and a characters. There are many different types of hotness, the existence of one does not invalidate the existence of another, nor should they necessarily compete to extinguish the perceived lesser. There is room for all, in my view.

Sovereign Court

I personally don't like Miranda, but don't have a huge problem with her inclusion in the game, except I want an option for dealing with her whininess to be ::smack:: "Put on your big girl panties. Now, let's go!" instead always having to empathize with her pain. I would have a huge problem with her if she were the player's only choice for a female toon, though. There are a ton of "I'm a sexpot!" female toons. Sure, Shepard's generally fit and good looking. All of the human/humanlike toons are. But how sexy she is right now isn't generally the focus of the character, except in certain situations. I like having those situations available for her (romance, the mission crashing the arms dealer's party in the LBD), but it's only the focus for her when it makes sense, not all the time. I love that. Having Femme Shep available is rare. And awesome.

Sovereign Court

I may have a chance to play Shadowrun soon. We'll see how it goes. :)

I don't think she's rare, I think she'sbBioware. I've been playing the same game since kotor. I'm okay with this. And generally fit and good looking? That's like saying I have a mild distaste for arithmetic - they're supermodels one and all, regardless if gender.
