Naked drinking? Never happened to me before.

Question for all the American FAWTLies:

What are current minimal, average and expected payments in US per week (assuming no higher education or high resposibility jobs)? Is $250-300 very little, little, decent, good?

Since vodka was mentioned

Spoiler:
Latest girl interest, another bartender at a bar in downtown des mines held a pretty good conversation. Cute little 5'1" blonde russian. According to my wingman I can flirt like crazy, just never can seal the deal. Need help.

depending on where you are. In my case $10/hr for a total of $400/ wk before taxes is a moderate pay. That is also in the manufacturing world with little responsibility.

It's more about wanting to have some basic feel of earnings and costs of life in America.

Obviously there are a lot of variables that determine how much momey is considered a decent amount (location, lifestyle, whether or not you have roommates) but one way to help gauge would be to think of somewhere you want to compare to (New York City, or wherever) and look up their minimum wage online. Each state can set their own, and some counties or cities even have their own minimums. That could give you an idea.

But understand that in many (most?) places in the U.S., minimum wage hovers at or below the 'poverty line'. I wouldn't consider minimum wage to be a good indication of what one can reasonably live on, generally speaking..

True, but at least it is a simple, objective measure of monetary value. Otherwise you would need to consider all of the details. For instance, the ratio of how often you eat at home versus going out to restaurants (even fast food places) can make large difference in how much you spend on food in a month. Or how about entertainment expenses? If you go out to clubs, or movies, or concerts, or anything like that it takes more money.

Basically, my point is that you can use minimum wages as a quick and dirty comparison. It won't account for everything, but if minimum wage in one area is $6 an hour and it's $9 an hour in another then you can probably figure that it costs more to live in area 2 than area 1.

(Persoanlly, I make a little more than minimum wage myself but because of where and how I live, I am fairly comfortable. My main issue is that while I make enough to live on, I don't have any savings. But I'm working on changing that.)

I see what you're getting at, and I agree that it's convenient shorthand. I just don't think that minimum wage in most places in the U.S. constitutes a livable wage--especially considering that most minimum wage jobs don't include health insurance.

That's moderate?! I very nearly make that on little-less-than 20 hours/week delivering newspapers. After taxes...

I suppose it also depends on your definition of livable. I am quite happy with how I live even though some of my friends find it hard to believe I could be. Guess I'm just a man of very simple tastes.

Also, for reference, that great bastion of knowledge, the Wikipedia, lists the federally mandated minimum wage as $7.25 per hour. My state minimum is $8.25, and I make $8.75.

Go for it. She's not far from where I lived in PA. Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but that area has changed drastically from what I've heard. DO EET

Paizo.com or no, this is still the internet.

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Monday! And what a lovely day it is. The first hints of fall have been in the air since Saturday. That morning I stepped out at around 0930 and it was sunny and 65. Today, at 0600, it was around 60. I felt the need to wear a light jacket.

Indeed. I suspect that there hasn't been an increase in number, but perhaps just an increase in activity due to certain real world events.

Fall is an awesome time of year, even though it leads into winter.

Minimum wage here usually means you're living with your parents or a hell of alot of roomies. Paying rent would be close to impossible. One of my friends at my second job has gone through 15 roommates in a calendar year in a three bedroom apartment. The housing market has always been bad here, but it's getting worse with certain practices. On the other side of the argument, you'd be surprised how easy it is as a person renting out a property to become a slum lord depending on what the city is responding to in force that year, and sometimes you can be arrested for even reporting your own problems to the city.

Scarab Sages

Mmmmmm.....slum lord.

Agreed. My favorite time of year. Comes just before my least favorite.

Despite the fact that two of my favorite PCs-turned-NPC villain antagonists are a winter priestess and a white dragon-blooded kobold sorc who wants to start eternal Fimbulwinter for the purposes of making traveling to other parts of the world more comfortable.

I always enjoy drinking the coffee that I brewed. These older guys, especially the ones who served in the Navy, brew coffee that can be used as a biological weapon.

I swear - one day some of it spilled on the floor, and it was like that seen from Alien when they try to cut the Facehugger off Kane's face and the acid comes out and starts eating through the hull.

Oh, you don't have to consider that. I'll admit that I'm nowhere near being in my right mind. Just a few pieces of evidence....

(a)I'm married.
(b)I have a kid.

Trust me, when the sun is only up for 4 hours a day, you really enjoy having some snow on the ground to keep things a lot less dark.

You just need to start a flashlight collection. I have one for every room in my house (including the bathroom and basement) as well as in my car, in my work desk, in my work bag, and in my gaming bag.

Plus a few extras, just for good measure.

Alrighty folks, time to do Navy stuff.

I'm just some person from the internets, so take this for what it's worth (not much), but I think the most important thing for you is to just relax. You don't need to worry so much about everything. If things seem good with this new girl and you want to see where it goes, go ahead. I don't think there's really all that much confusing about it. The first girl is more complicated than you want to deal with. (I'm paraphrasing, but that's what I've taken away from your comments.) It sounds like things with the second girl didn't go anywhere, though I'm not sure. But regardless, you're not in a committed relationship with her. So there's no reason not to see if girl #3 is what you're looking for. That's my two cents anyhow.

My last steady job was working as a low-level laborer at a garage, and I was pulling in $8.25 per hour at 40 hours per week. I think it ended up being around $250 a week after taxes, and it was barely enough to live on. Granted, I was living by myself, and rent is brutally expensive, even in rural areas of New York State--I was paying $500 per month plus utilities for a three-room apartment with barely functioning electricity.

*cough* *wheeze* *sniffle* repeat

I love renn, but the fact that it happens during my worst allergy season is not really great. Add that to the fact that my allergies were already acting up because my son's best friend has a dog who has been shedding so my allergies were already acting up before we went to renn.....yeah, I'm thoroughly miserable.

I'm so glad this cold front came it before we rolled to the field. I'm not sweating nearly as bad as I could be.

Yeah, from my perpective winter can't get here fast enough. I just hope it's not like last year where we never really had winter. I could really use a break from all the plant life that's trying to kill me with pollen. :/

No, just a reptile.

Cold makes me grouchy, lethargic, sleepy, and unproductive. I just end up sitting around in a blanket or heavy coat and shivering. Can't focus on writing, or reading, or whatever it is I'm trying to get done.

Heat may be uncomfortable, but it's never kept me from doing things. Just set up a fan and I'm usually good to go.

*joins in the general sniffling*

Cold virus rather than allergies, though. So at least mine will go away and I can see straight again soon.

And now I'm remind of the ad a Swedish drug store ran a few years ago with low-speed camera footage of various plants shooting out their various pollens, buds, and shoots to the sound of machine guns and heavy artillery fire. According to some of my friends it was the most accurate depiction of spring they'd ever seen.
