If I ever go back to school - which is doubtful, because I refuse to take a loan ever again and doubt I'd qualify for a scholarship - this is definitely the route I'm going.

A school loan or a loan in general?

The school (or otherwise government-funded) loan is the one I'm absolutely unwilling to ever touch again. I'm more amenable to a bank loan, but I'm pretty certain I don't have the credit for it: one of my two school loans went into default well before I finally paid it off, and I'm not certain of the status on the other (though my parents, and more recently I, have been tossing small amounts of money into it pretty regularly)

Quote:

If the latter, good luck with that if you can pay everything by cash. Even then, there are certain things you cannot get feasibly w/o a credit history.

Catch-22

I'm well aware. And I've made my peace with that. If it means I save up for a year before buying a car when I could instead get a loan and pay it off, so be it. If it means I never live in anything more luxurious than a studio apartment, I'm okay with that.

It's a fact of life I dislike, and think it's a sad statement on the state of our society, but there it is.

Then again, I'm a sad little bundle of contradictions. I have a heavy appreciation for modern technology, play video games constantly, spend 80% of my waking time on the internet, read published books very frequently, and do the majority of my writing via an online medium such as a forum or Google Docs. Yet at the same time I'm heavily averse to urban culture, love wide open spaces where the nearest neighbor involves an afternoon's walk away, and generally consider the modernizing of our society to have produced more bad effects than good. I despise the modern arrangement of procedure that is required to succeed or in some cases simply survive here, and repeatedly catch myself wondering how much better off we might be if things were just simpler.

*shrug* It's messed up but there it is. Make of it what you will.

I wanted an off campus apartment badly - the money the school provided for room and board could move off campus, and I had another girl lined up as a roommate with the same scholarship. We would have saved so much money. But I had no credit history, and my parents wouldn't cosign the lease. So...there it is.
That bites. I can't even stand apartments any more. The last time I lived in any kind of institutional housing goes back to Korea in '86.
I could stand an apartment, mostly because I need very little space to live comfortably, and renting an apartment is cheaper than renting a small house with the extra costs for land, upkeep, taxes....

For me the issue is not mainly square footage. I just couldn't stand the restrictions of apartment or condo life. Living on top of other people is not for me. I like my little house in my little cul de sac.

I wouldn't mind a more remote location though.

huh. Weird.

Will you come visit my compound when/if I build it? ;)

Only if you promise not to give me several warning shotgun blasts in the face when I come by.

Ugh. Grandpa versus Dad versus me stories. Grandpa was a real piece of work.

I know I've done better for my kids but there seems to be no end to the needs, and a definite lack of understanding of the impact of their 'needs' on my wife and me. And a bigtime lack of gratitude.

MSU 'requires' freshmen to live on campus. Hopefully my daughter grows up a lot and makes some responsible friends so they can move off campus to reduce expenses. Room and Board is over $8k, but I'm afraid to look at exactly how much more.

That's complete and total b~@!~@!#.

That requirement is b.s. And even more so when they're packing some of them to 4 a room like sardines and you're paying some serious jack.

OSU is attempting to make that also a requirement for sophomores, now.

Pick your feet up folks, it's getting pretty deep in here.

In less controversial opining, that's gotta hurt! (Here's hoping they don't change the field hockey picture.)

Reminds me of a time in the early 90's where I was playing "street hockey" in a tennis court. Someone high-checked their stick and caught me right in the face.

Hard.

My nose started bleeding.

I lost consciousness.

Fell like a sack of potatoes.

Haven't played since.

Happened to me more than once when I was a kid. Took a puck to the head once, too. That wasn't fun.

Missed a lot, what I did notice from the last few pages it is better I not comment. Good vibes guys.

Ugh.
I liked going to college. I actually enjoyed it. (Mostly.) ;)
As above that is where I actually started gaming, and my 3 best friends and I still get together when we can (if only online) to play.
And I enjoy learning. Really. (Testing, not so much)

But the entire pay-it-ALL-back-plus-interest part I could seriously be doing without right now! Especially in this F!@#$%^& economy!

:(

The university I work at has always had a policy of freshman must live on campus, but they never enforced it until this year, now that they have built new student housing to replace all of the old crumbling ones, and they can actually hold all the freshman!

They can re-build/replace all of these dorms, and the student union, but we haven't seen a raise in 5 years. Seriously?

Positive vibes and good night all! ;P

Scarab Sages

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Thursday! Actually, it's more like my Friday, since I'm taking off tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

Got 4 extra hours built up, and I'm taking 4 annual leave. Gonna stay home and get some house work done that I've been meaning to get to.

SINK!!! You won't stay leaking for long!!!

Scarab Sages

Once again, there are far too many people who treat the passing lane as if it belongs solely to them and they can go as slow as they want in it.

Scarab Sages

IT BELONGS TO MEEEE!!!!!

Scarab Sages

And, of course, to all the other people who are trying to get where they are going with as little delay as possible.

*blink*

Mornin' zombeh.

My work day is over, time to catch a few more hours of sleep and then wrangle some veggies, exercise my pack o' snorks, and play with my little monkeygirl.

Ciao

I am nothing, if not generous with my good will to those who just want to get where the f@%@ they are going.

When I was younger, I said I wanted to become an engineer so I could build the first Temrinator.

Ever since I first played KotOR, it's been I want to build the first HK-47.

Indeed, meatbag.

Mine is often a lonely vigil in the morning.

Scarab Sages

Upon my arrival in the office this AM, our secretary and a fellow engineer each informed me that I was too loud for such an early time. I politely informed them (as I often must do) that the only reason I am so loud is because the things I say are so damn important.

Scarab Sages

WHAT WOULD PEOPLE DO IF THEY DIDN'T GET THEIR DAILY "GOOD MORNING" FROM ME?!? IT WOULD BE A DISASTER!!!

Scarab Sages

My poor wife had to work late again last night. Didn't get home until after 2300. Damn Pearl Harbor time!!!!

Getting ready for bed last night, I came out the bathroom and glanced in the boy's room. Saw a lump of white sitting in the bed and some movement. Went in there and he was sitting up drinking some water. I had time to pat him on the head and tell him "Hey buddy". Then he stopped drinking, promptly fell over, and was back asleep before his head even touched the mattress.

Scarab Sages

All yesterday evening, right up until he went to bed, he kept asking for his mama. Sucks when I have to keep saying she isn't home yet.

I wanted to go to Hawaii. I had a gig lined up, a three-year tour at Tripler Hospital as their Public Affairs Officer. Then I went to Saudi and the sad sack of s!%! I had for my Master Sgt in my office f*@@ed it up on me. Fat old boysenberry b~#$$. I had to struggle on my PT test every six months but since she was an old hag she always got a pass. Lazy good-for-nothing profile-riding Army parasite. Went on to get a DoD position after she finally ran out of time allowed inservice.

Anyway off to Music Festival Bloodstock \m/

See you all Monday.

Hmmm....apparently, Warner Bros. is talking to Ben Affleck about directing a Justice League movie. You know, as much as I love DC, those douchebags at WB need to get their heads out of their asses when it comes to making movies.

Scarab Sages

Although I've got to admit, I keep hearing good things about Affleck as a director.
