Hello Party Two!
Here is the OOC thread for party two's CotCT PBP game. What I need from all of you is finished character sheets, either in your profiles or here in the thread. I will be loading all of your characters into Hero Lab for ease of reference.
All of you can use this thread at any time to get into contact with me and ask me questions about the campaign or anything else in general. Also, even if your character isn't fully ready yet, please post here as quickly as possible to tell me your here and (mostly) ready to go.

Alright, I got Thaniel done more or less. If there's any glaring omissions or recommendations or corrections needed, I can have that fixed up no problem later on today.
Wondering a bit how a horse is going to get around?
Should have Orlando up tomorrow although I'd like to see what the other spellcasters are doing before finalising.
Briar the Lesser |
I slept on the final tweaks to Briar the Lesser. I've solved a few things, but the remain torn on yet another (domain: Weather or Language).
He will be finished up shortly.

EDIT: Weather. Though I like the Language domain, I think it fits poorly into character and will be difficult to use said powers o'er the campaign.

What were we doing for starting gold? I didn't see it in the original recruitment thread (though I might've overlooked it). I'll probably set Aleixica up with average starting cash and can always upgrade if we want to do max.
According to the recruitment post, "Each character begins with average starting gold."

Ok! Hey guys, gonna be loading up character sheets for your characters today. Thank you all for posting so quickly. To answer the questions, yes Thaniel can be a fighter or a cavalier as you wish to play him. Please just remember that Korvosa is a crowded city and as such fighting a top a mount will not always be practical for you.
Also, yes, everyone starts with average starting gold for their class. Nice and simple for character generation. Here is my email address for those who also have Hero Lab.

Aleixica Tas'Vere |
Aleixica should be finished now, though I can change spells if there's too much overlap.
For traits, I took Resilient, basically subbing it for Tortured in the Crimson Throne Player's Guide (+1 to fort instead of reflex). Also took Ear for Music, though she spent more time listening outside various inns and music houses as opposed to Shelyn's temple. Hope those both work all right.
The one other thing I needed were languages. I wasn't sure if there were human variants, like Varisian and Shaonti, or if they all fall under common. Also is there any sort of separate Korvosan tongue? I figure she's more likely to know those than something from another race.

There are languages for Varisian and Shoanti. The tongue of Korvosa is Chelaxian, though it's probably begun to delude a little bit among the commoners with Varisian phrases and words that would fit into the Chelaxian language. If your born and/or raised among Varisian or Shoanti people, you gain those languages for free along with Common. Also, both of the traits are fine.

Looks like Orlando and Aleixica have some serious overlap in spells. I'll definitely change charm person (maybe to CLW, since we don't have a healer, though I want to look at what's available) and I'll take a look at the 0-levels as well.
Thaniel, I'd say go with whatever you feel like you want to play/fits your character. I know I personally don't like mounts for my characters, as I think they're too limited, but that's me. (It's also why I love Cody Coffelt's Houndmaster archetype from Superstar.)

Provisional build for Orlando is up.
Mr. Vissini, would you add your history/backstory to your profile? Admittedly, I'm lazy and would prefer not to need to refer back to the recruitment thread to remember things about you.

I figured we would but hadn't looked at yours yet. Orlando is fey bloodline so definately an enchanter although I'll be looking more at compulsion as we level. Cure light wounds sounds good although Briar has goodberries and that and a wand of cure light wounds should be plenty of out of combat healing early on. For Os I don't mind us both having ghost sounds. You have read magic, I have detect. How about I swap dancing lights for resistance which Briar isn't memorising?
Thaniel its more how annoyed are you going to end up being if you can only ride your horse for one battle in four or five or whatever? If your looking for protective fighting characters there seem like plenty of cool options. It seems between bard and sorcerer we definately have the high charisma covered and we have four casters so anything meat shieldy seems awesome.
Lastly, my background is up as well.

Orlando Vissini wrote:Provisional build for Orlando is up.Oh man you're using the Nicholas Cage face? I won't be able to keep from cracking up every time you post.
Havent quite decided yet. Theres a definate shortage of normal looking human males :) If its going to distract you too much I'll change.
Edit: Actually now that you've pointed it out I'm finding it distracting as well. Damn I'm going to have to pick another one.
Thaniel Vedenin |
No no no, I say keep the Nick Cage face. I usually envision games as TV series and so forth, so it'd be good to have the celebrity casting.
Currently working on a restatting of Thaniel. I assumed that urban based game meant having a horse would be more relevant than "leave at the dungeon door", but if it'll still be a burdonsome thing... I've no problem going Free Hand Fighter, something more dexterous. Should be done soon.

I'm wondering, with four casters, would people prefer if I make Aleixica something more combat-oriented (with the DM's permission)? Her back story translates pretty easily to just about any class, and I could easily see her as a ranger (probably focusing on archery, though I'd figure she'd also be relatively talented in melee). Her personality would more or less be the same, though she'd obviously be a bit more proficient with the bow/willing to engage in combat than she is currently.

I'm happy with the composition as it stands and believe strongly players playing what makes them happy (characters that they enjoy playing).
I care more about character and roleplaying than worrying about party balance. I feel that for whatever party composition, we'll find a way to work together and succeed at challenges.
That said, if you'd feel more comfortable with a different build and have one in mind that you'd enjoy playing, go for it. Heck, I've also seen some fine archer bard builds if you want to combine both.
I don't worry about combats, I think we'll find a way to make it work. I do want fun characters that people want to play.

Hello all! Sorry to have neglected you a bit, I had some stuff come up that had to be dealt with . So, I just wanted to say that Painlord is right. Your party composition is just fine and it's all about how you use your abilities to overcome challenges. An archer bard is a perfectly viable use of the class and there's no reason you can't incorporate such skills into your bardic abilities. I also do not want to discourage anyone from playing the class they want to. There are always situations that make certain class features essentially useless for that encounter. The Cavalier simply has a big one that is hard to ignore for some people. The fact that we will spend a lot of time in a crowded city means packed streets and lots of narrow alley ways. Also, building fights. All of these things make it hard to use a horse. Probably why in Korvosa the guards fly on Hippogryphs. :)
So, play what you think will work best for you. If you've never played an archer bard type character before, Treantmonk has an excellent guide on it here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/extras/community-creations/treatmonks-lab/test2
Anyway, I've almost finished uploading everyone's characters and then I'll be back with any needed corrections.
Kiradia |
Heya,
Ok! There's very few things to go over. Overall every bodies characters have been excellently written up with very few mistakes. So, lets get into it.
Ok! Please get back to me quickly.
Orlando Vissini |
I'm Australian in origin and have never quite worked lbs out. I'll add a few even with his slight build :)
The only thing I wasn't too sure about was languages. I have common and Varisian listed currently. Orlando grew up in Old Korvosa so it seemed logical to give him these as base with a third for 12 int but wanted to be sure.
Aleixica Tas'Vere |
OK, I added three languages (she should get two for her intelligence and one for linguistics): Varisian, Shoanti, Elven.
Also, looking at Treantmonk's guide (darn useful, that), I moved two skill points around, taking them off diplomacy and sense motive and adding them to perception and use magic device. Tempted to change one of the feats around per his suggestion, but her back story doesn't really include her being that confident/capable (yet) in combat, and since no one seems to mind that, I'll stick with it as is.
(Though I really don't mind playing any class. One of these days I'll probably end up with a 16th-level character who has one level in EVERYTHING, simply because I can't decide which I want to play most. Crap, now I want to stat that up just to see what it looks like.) : )
Me'mori |
Should be finished. I was a bit confused as to what spells the witch starts off knowing, I assumed the familiar knows the list, and anything outside of it would have to be acquired.

They did that in an issue of Dragon Magazine(one of the last issues, in fact).. was rather amusing, since it was written from an intelligent Kobold's perspective.

Briar the Lesser is also completed, but open for commentary or questions.
Meh. Changed avatar. Other picture's ears were too pointy.
Damn pointy ears!
I feel less pointy now and better as a result.

Pointy ears could make for a nice natural attack. Perhaps only against flying foes, or someone attacking from behind, though. Somehow negate the flanking bonus?

Hooray! I was refraining from commenting, but the fact that your old picture was actually a lady npc was mildly confusing me.

For what it is worth, Declan, I will always have Obs Mist memorized (domain spell), if there is something else you'd rather take/memorize at 1st lvl.
