Nah, melee is fine. Kind of getting an image of an explorer gnome awkwardly wielding a machete too big for him to cut through jungle vines and other things.

Gullin: Yep, that helps most excellently. Thanks!
Solarious: The original idea was to do a ranged ranger concept, but I'll go melee instead. You can keep your fancy pants bows and such.

I'm honestly pretty excited for this. Working on detailing the mechanics of the character currently. Is the Guide archetype for Ranger in the APG acceptable? As well, what is the starting gold for everyone?

Nah, parties always had roles to be fulfilled. 4th edition and such just brought it to the forefront, no harm in it at all.

If there's too many rangers (I was looking at Guide archetype from APG) then it can be easily changed to Fighter (either Archer or Crossbowman). I mostly had the concept of character in mind, but the race/class can always be changed up.

Serpent's Skull looked like a very interesting storyline. If you're still recruiting, I'd like to toss my hat into the ring of contestants.

I was thinking something of a gnomish ranger, something of a big game hunter/explorer. A bit of an adventure seeker with something of the gentleman explorer kind of attitude. Let me know if you're still interested.

Several ideas, actually.

One was continuing with the embittered Ulfen barbarian stranded in Riddleport that was proposed above in my last post. If you feel that it wouldn't be an ideal fit for your group, I had another idea. A half-elf rogue (swashbuckler), a sailor whom frequents Riddleport but is left without ship or crew after an unfortunate incident with a rival. At the time when the incident happened, when he should have been back at the ship he was occupied at one of the city's many brothels. As such he's seeking to attach himself to some other outfit that could use his skills.

I apologize that my submission is nowhere near as grand and elaborate as Twilightrose there (which is pretty impressive), but if either of those two concepts have potential... let me know and I can work with you to make it more customizable to your game.

Hey there! I'm still around, and if you haven't found a replacement yet, I can whip you up whatever concept you feel would be the ideal fit for the group. If not, then good. I hope the game is going smashingly well.

Wasn't so much the extra feat, but I wasn't entirely sure what races were frequently found in Numeria so I played it safe with human. It's a concept that could just as easily be changed into half-elf or even half-orc if we wanted to have a more mixed party. :)

This is something I am highly interested in. I'm still reasonably new to the PBP style, but am growing to enjoy it. Here's my submission.

_______________________________
Vangaar (NG Human Barbarian) was born to the Kellid tribes of Numeria, the son of a tanner however as he grew he proven himself a natural hunter for his people. Yet as the years passed, a wanderlust grew in the young barbarian who began asking questions regarding his people's way of life, and even the idea that there may be more beyond it. Driven by an ever-increasing restlessness and beginning to feel stifled by his culture's unwillingness to look at it's own customs with a critical eye, one day Vagnaar spoke to his family that he would be leaving. Not an unusual act in itself, it was assumed that once his youthful recklessness wore off, he'd return to the tribe, but as Vagnaar strode off to the horizon, he never looked back.

Arriving in Brevoy was a great cultural shock, but Vagnaar attempted to prove himself capable of adapting to it. His brawn made him the notice of more than one minor criminal whose silver tongue were able to persuade the naive barbarian into less-than-noble jobs (such as roughing up payments out of people) until the day came that a man of his impressive stature caught the attention of the law. Yet rather than imprisonment, some seemingly decided that it would be even better to take such a possible asset and point him in the direction of the Stolen Lands. Given the choice between imprisonment, and exploration into a lawless land... Vagnaar accepted.

If there's anything you feel doesn't fit or needs to be changed, I've no problems with that. Keeping fingers crossed on making it into the accepted 5-6.

Having just read the posting, I'm also expressing interest. I have no character already statted up at the moment, but do have a concept.

Ulfen barbarian, something of a braggard and drunk, sailed to Riddleport amongst a crew of traders from his homeland. Unfortunately, his frequent indulgences had him too lost in the city to have made it back to ship for the ride home, and too broke from gambling and pickpockets to afford passage on another vessel. At this point, he's pretty desperate for coin and growing to resent the city that he feels took advantage of him.

If it's something worth considering, I can draw up a character sheet swiftly.

No worries. This is a blast so far, so enjoy a day off.

I too am quite excited for this!

Hey! Greatly honoured to be allowed in the game. I hope I can do it justice.

I'm working on statting up Thaniel and making the alias for him. Is it alright to go with Cavalier (Order of the Shield), or would straight up Fighter be preferred in this case?

Thanks for the compliment! Here's my answers to your questions...

More Character Stuff:
Should he manage to leave his desperate attempt at getting vengeance on Gaedren Lamm, he may turn closer to the path of vigilante. The whole ordeal would be to him akin to a 9 year old learning Santa Claus isn't real. While he would continue to believe in the SPIRIT and CONCEPT of Korvosa as being a civilized place of learning and opportunity, his experiences would not sit well with him... particularly after seeing how the major groups such as the guard completely let him down.

Thus, it'd be a lot closer to the path of vigilante afterwards. His crusade would be edging the line between justice (protecting the people and Korvosan beliefs) and vengeance (each enemy might just remind him of "another Lamm"). Thus, having a group (such as the party) would be an ideal situation... because it'd keep him too busy to look back on whats left of his life.

I'm trying not to invest too much in what the character may become, because that usually happens through the course of roleplay but given the circumstances of the background, that'd be the most likely course of action.

I look forward to your critiquing! Thanks again, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

6-8 people sounds ambitious, but it might make the roleplaying more deeply involved having that many additional personas interacting. I recommend you go for it, because I'm a fan of ambitious ideas.

Alright, here's a more generalized background. A summary of Thaniel, the possible character to be.

Background Stuff:

Native born but of Chelaxian background, Thaniel was the son of a city watchman and so grew up with a sense of pride of the city. A shining beacon of civilization in the face of an untamed land, a point of view only helped along by listening to the sermons of priests of Abadar. He grew to see Korvosa as a city of striking potential full of passionate people, and perhaps with time and training he too may become one of the Guard and do his part for the people who had only been good to him.

Using a great deal of the coin he was saving, Thaniel had a ring commissioned and proposed to his love Nessa (a servant girl of House Ornelos), who said yes. Soon after, her body was found not far away from her family's home. Stabbed, and robbed. Sharing in the family grief, the outstanding detail of how she was found to Thaniel was how that ring was missing from her finger.

Since then, Thaniel has hardened somewhat. His belief in the innate good nature of people has begun to shake, as he scoured the city for where that ring went. Eventually, it turned up in some shop dealing in "previously owned" items. While he was not able to get the ring itself back, the knowledge that it was sold to him by a Gaedren Lamm.

Unfortunately, no one Thaniel would talk to would help. Not the Ornelos family, not even the Guard he so respected. His anger and faith struggling, it was then that he decided that if justice was to be done... he would have to go after Lamm himself. Just to prove there is some fairness left in the city.

Hopefully that helps somewhat. Parts can be changed if need be.

Hey Kiradia.

I've also never done a PBP, or any of the adventure paths for that matter, but did read the Players Guide. But if accepted I'd love the chance to try it out, and certainly can guarantee a 1-2 post per day submission.

As for a character, I was thinking either a human paladin/cavalier (possibly a member of a minor noble house who lost his wife to Gaedren Lamms' group). Either that or a human wizard (graduate of the Academae, a one time or even current shiver addict).
