We have been using firearms for a while and here are some of the sample homebrews we use. We are using the old campaign setting and updating for playtest.

You could use an upgrade style system for firearms.

Special Rules:
Derringer - Max 2 range increments, +2 sleight of hand
Blunderbuss - Max 2 range increments
Scattergun - Max 2 range increments

Masterworks upgrades:
Derringer - Add +1 barrel = 100 gp and .5 lb, max 4 barrels
Rifle - Add telescope sight to add one additional range increment = 1000 gp

Worn Barrels Rule
Arquebus, Musket, and Rifle barrels can be worn down, no rules to wear down the barrel, just for found or starting weapons
light wear: -1 attack and reduce range by 5 ft, reduce price by 50%
heavy wear: -2 attack and reduce range by 10 fr, reduce price by 75%
repair barrel: price is 50% of base weapon cost

Surprised they didn't include the double misfire chance for non-proficiency. We use exploding dice. Using the old rules an archer hit just as often, but further and faster. I plan on giving everyone at least a pistol for the upcoming weekend, proficiency, and a couple feats, just for the adventure.
