Gutters' take on Mr. Storm's death

Okay... failed deaths in Marvel:

1) Angel. After being Mutant Massacred so his wings were torn apart, he broke himself out of the hospital, stole a plane, and deliberately crashed it. He was a neat character before that happened, and had a sad death that was, perhaps, comprehensible. Eeeexcept he got back as Archangel within a month, and, get this, blue. He never was worthwhile afterward, to me anyway.

Unless the portal is opened next issue and I see his bloody, broken desiccated corpse, he is not dead.

Reasoning:

1) No one saw him die. The portal closed while he was still fighting.

2) Super Nova Blast. This burst of super hot fire is so powerful it has melted steel miles away. It would instantly fry all of his attackers, with the possible exception of Annihilus.

3) Annihilus. This long time enemy would love nothing more than to have one of the FF in his power. I could see him using Johnny against the rest of the team either as a power sorce for one of his weapons, as a slave fighting his old partners, or a bargaining chip.

Spidey joins the FF.

Liberty's Edge

I was (am!) a huge Human Torch fan, so this makes me somewhat sad. However, if he stays dead, I'll pay out 5:1.

I also foresee the Silver Surfer in future episodes. He's been on the periphery of the FF for years, can't see why he wouldn't get involved somehow.

That new Spider-man costume is AWESOME.

Sovereign Court

Ditto on the white spidey - he can now do arctic ops I guess... :P

Dead until the writer changes. :-)

Sort of like Superman, Batman, Captain America, Jason Todd, Gwen Stacey, Thing, Thor ... we could fill a whole thread with comic characters who have died and come back.

Jean Grey..........Grrrrr.....

REally? I know your hatred for Whedon burns like a star, but I liked how she was still manipulative and, well, Emma, while trying to be good.

Because at that point in time she wasn't Emma Frost. She was a Whedon character that looked like a much sexier(of course) version of Emma Frost that fulfilled Whedon Trope #4- Yeah, I'm a Bad Guy, But I'm YOUR Bad Guy Now!

It's unfortunate- I really like Archangel. And after what Ellis did with his whole SECONDARY MUTATION!!!!!!! crap, I'm sorry he ever returned to being Angel. I would much prefer he stayed as Archangel.

I wonder if this means he is not joining the X-Men now.

Lol; love this post. I liked Sue as Malice; like to see that come back and bite Reed in the butt and develop lockjaw.

After sending super-villain 'cape-killers' after his wife, brother-in-law and best friend, among a half-dozen other villainous turns of late, I kinda wanted Reed to be the one to take a nap for a year or two, so that, when he inevitably returned, I might be ready to see him as a good-guy again.

I mean, it worked for Hal Jordan and Jean Grey. Death, and a quick retcon, and suddenly they're good guys again. :)

Still, I guess it was obvious that it wasn't going to be Illuminati Reed or Avengers Ben, both of whom have been seen on covers for comics coming out in April.

And killing Sue, after getting rid of Wanda and Janet and Jean, would leave *none* of the original female heroes around. There's the kind of sexism that is pretty much expected from comic books, and then there's 'Hey, why is this team such a sausage-fest? We've got two Wolverines, two Captain Americas, a couple of Thor knock-offs and an entire emotional spectrum worth of Hulks, can't we spare a brother a dame?'

Lol; you must be reading Thor

yes; this is my major issue with the event as well, and that he is the levity of the group. Only one that could replace him would be Speedball if he turned out ot be a cousin, which would be cool, but heard they killed him too.

not do so well, maybe Firestar could take his place. That would be fun.

Well, Johnny's major contribution to the FF has never been his powers. Yeah, they're a nice visual, and they help keep the entire team from looking like their uniform is, well, uniform, but the major draw of the Fantastic Four is that they're family.

Remember the episodes a few years back, when Sue was going to teach Johnny the responsible, financial side of being one of the four shareholders of FF, Inc? Those were great stories.

The Ben / Johnny dynamic gets front-and-center attention. But I also like the Reed-and-Johnny relationship, where Reed simply, deliberately treats Johnny as an equal, capable partner, in the teeth of any evidence Johnny might demonstrate to belie that trust.

Firestar might be able to replace the Human Torch on the magazine cover the next time the FF are in combat with the Sandman, but there's no way she can fill in for him in the ways that really matter.

Who could? Namor. The Black Panther? Maybe one of the Inhumans? Spider-man?

But, yes, Reed has "died" a few times. Ben has really and truly died -- the FF needed the combined power of Stan and Jack to bring him back. I trust that the characters will treat this "death" as a solemn and serious situation. And, on a more cynical note, I suspect they'll forget they have a flipping Time Travel machine to undo all that.

HHAHAHA ROFL

Yeah believe so... think you've got to die and come back before your truly considered "Fantastic"...

In spidey's defense, I think the new 'Fantastic Foundation' is going to be like the (adjetiveless) X-men book, the core cast of the three adults two children and then alternating 'guest stars' and the gust star wears some varient of the white costume to be 'part of the team'

At least I hope so.

Maybe Spidey could sell Quesada's soul instead?

That tactic is unfortunately contingent on Quesada actually possessing a soul.

Spidey finally gets to join a Super Group where he can be a real member, not 'that guy' that they call in when the 'Super' Heroes get caught with their pants down.

Adios, Johnny Storm, and thanks for everything.

Peter Parker, love the white duds, but beware Eddie Brock's new abilities, I see a Clash in this direction coming up soon!

Before I read webhead was the replacement I thought you'd been inspired... Lockjaw to replace Johnny... FF kids need a pet ;)
