Same goes for the goth-rocker forensics cop on NCISCSIWTFEVER. Not that that show is remotely resembling anything realistic to begin with, but that character alone just screams cheesecake. I can't make it through 5 minutes of that show without clawing my eyes out.
Abby from NCIS? Yeah, I just ignore the semi-ridiculousness and focus in on the eye candy.

I don't normally find her 'hot' (the Marilyn Monroe bit being an exception) I find her like a sister. Now the actress I find a facinating woman from interviews and bios I've read. I *do* enjoy some of the Goth moments when she interacts with others in the universe (McGee sleeping in the coffin w/o realizing it, her schooling the one Mexican student in last seasons finale). But Goths don't 'do it for me'
Aside, the Captial One Comercials amuse me, as a whole, but I can't help but laugh every time I see them running the battering ram through the lobby and then the narrator comes up and asks calmly, "Is Ceasar home?"

It's strange, because goths DO do it for me, very much so. I think she's a great actress, but I don't think they're doing a good job in making her seem goth, tho.

Agreed on Big Bang Theory. I think it just tries way too hard to aim for a sub-genre demographic. It always bothers me when a show that's basically weak with mediocre writing relies on it's target audience to make up for it. "Look! A show with geeks! I'm a geek! I must love it!" No, not really.

I like the NCIS cheesecake but your right that it dosn't resemble reality in any way. But what do you expect from Donald Bellisario the same person who brought such thought draining shows as Magnum P.I. and Quantum Leap.

If gamer cred is based off of what you do or don't know about, rather than your opinion of said "thing", then I am definitely really low on gamer cred lol.
And sadly for you, this is what it is about... do you have low social skills? that adds to your cred, in a weird sorta way.

I've been watching it via Netflix lately. It's not the most hilarious sitcom ever written, and I don't generally like sitcoms anyway, but I adore the hell out of Sheldon.
It's not just that the actor is cute. He's one of the rare characters in any media who appears to have thought processes that largely make sense to me. He's exaggerated all to hell for comic effect, but so far I almost always get where he's coming from. I've even had some of the conversations he's had with the rest of the cast about social niceties.

Quantum Leap was awesome. Completely campy and had an undercurrent of Christian somethingorother, but still awesome.

I hate most anime (and I really hate anime flavor in my D&D). I still have some nostalgia anime loves, like Robotech. Do not preach to me about how original Macross is better and Carl Macek ruined it forever. I don't care, I like it just fine the way I remember it from when I was a kid.
I haven't liked any Final Fantasy since before they were numbered. That's Final Fantasy on NES and Final Fantasy Legends on Gameboy.
Never was really into comic books.
Bored to bleeding tears by 99% of SyFy. I don't mind Doctor Who, but I really have to be watching it with a group of people that are talking about it--my wife's grad school friends have a Doctor Who group.
No Doritos or Mt. Dew--strictly.
Wasn't ever short on social skills or romantic mojo.
I'm a nerd about things that are not generally considered nerdy: single-malt scotch, for instance. Blues.

I worked in a record store for years, and there are definitely more types of geeks/nerds than role-playing, comic book-buying ones. In fact, the record store I worked at was down the street from the comic book shop and I was always amazed at how my customers were, for the most part, bigger dorks than the ones at the comic store. (Not that the customer base was mutually exclusive.)
Before the internet, being a blues nerd was a pretty well-established nerd sub-genre. (Steve Buscemi in "Ghost World" would be a good fictional representative.) Skinny, glasses-wearing white guys taking record-hunting trips to the deep south, hanging out in black neighborhoods at local bars, trading fanzines and starting independent record labels like Alligator.
All hail the blues nerds with their mojo hands and their John the Conquerroot!

I'm sorry you aren't into anime, but Macross is so far above Robotech it hurts. And Macek did indeed do horrible things to the original series. Still, I am indebted to him for exposing me to the series.
I'm with you on Final Fantasy Legend(Romancing Saga). Still my favorite RPG series of all time, have everything that ever came out in this country for it.

Some may find the following insulting. Deal with it.
I get bored with MMOs. JRPGs are also generally a bore to me (barring Kingdom Hearts).
I actually enjoyed (and still do enjoy) the third Spider-Man Movie. Could've been better, but it isn't the atrocity people make it out to be.
2001 was boring. A decently-made movie, but pretty boring. And if you don't already know what's happening, the ending doesn't make any sense.
Can't stand Tolkien. His whole elven societal thing is overdone and ridiculous, and don't even get me started on Sauron and Mordor's "taint" on the land.
In the same vein, I find Eddings dry and boring (the cliches don't really bother me, just his writing style), and I can't bring myself to read Salvatore. Goodkind is too much of a pussy to admit that he really wants to write porn. Weiss and Hickman are ugly old people who just rip off other authors (so, what Paolini will be in 50 years).
And as for Robert Jordan? His books were so boring that they killed him.
Forgotten Realms is stupidly complicated dragon-porn filled with over-leveled mary sues.
Like TOZ, I like Guns in my Fantasy.
I also like asian influence in my fantasy, if it's done right.
Other than Trigun, I haven't found an anime that I can stand to sit through. And even Trigun has its s#!tty moments (for example, the only thing Wolfwood was good for was his death). The only Manga I can read is Death Note.
Battlestar Galactica (old and new) sucks. Star Trek is boring.
Dawn of the Dead isn't that great, folks.
Bethesda couldn't make an engaging game if their lives depended on it.
Batman in general is about as compelling as a rock whose parents died. Man needs to get his s#!t together and get some therapy. And the same goes for wolverine.
I actually like Venom and Carnage as characters, and was pissed as hell when they let Kasady die at the hands of Sentry of all people (of course, it was a superhero death, and he's already back).
I liked the Watchmen movie more than the comic. The ending was more plausible and there were fewer seemingly-pointless tangents.
...Frank Miller's an arrogant hack who loves listening to himself talk.
Love Whedon, Tarantino and Bioware, though.

I make tea (I live in Georgia, so saying that feels redundant) with a minimum of sugar - one level cup per gallon. It isn't syrupy like most restaurants make, but it also doesn't have that acrid edge that unsweetened tea has.

I generally dislike other geeks. My experience is I found one solid friend out of 10 people or so.
I'm also a huge fan of Wolverine and still think he's the greatest thing to ever come out of Marvel. I liked his comics, watched his cartoons, and am even watching his Anime now (and I'm excited and happy everytime I see a new one just like I was when I was a kid). I actually prefer him when he's more "prettily/handsomely" drawn over the clint east wood/john wayne rugged looks thing.
I actually like anime for that reason too since I tend to like pretty characters over "manly" ones (Seltyiel is my favorite iconic for appearance reasons alone)
I completely stand behind people having different opinions but I always hated arguments of "he became too popular/overhyped so I hate him"
... you hate someone/something just because a bunch of people liked it/talked about them/it a lot? Really?
I usually dislike posting on forums too much. Sometimes I get the urge to argue a point and then I realize ... why?
I thought Buffy was king of boring but Spike was fun. Enjoyed Angel and thought Firefly was amazing. Loved Nathan Fillion (and still do in Castle). Actually liked Serenity though most people seemed "meh" by it.
Liked the prequel star wars movies. Flashy lightsaber fights? Sign me up. Loved the Lord of the Rings movies ... couldn't stand the first book so I quit. Did finsih the hobbit though.
Loved all the Drizzt books as well as the Artemis ones.
Completely LOVE romance in books/movies/games/stories whatever. I can't fully love something without having some suitable element of romance in it.
Hated the movie Akira and not a big fan of all the cyber punk stuff anyway (at least not Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, Ghost in the Shell). Not a big fan of mechs (Gundam Wing the lone exception).
Not a fan of star trek, battle stars, stargates, etc (though star trek movie was good. Weird ...)

I hate Star Wars I, II, and III. I hate the "redoing" over and over of the the original trilogy by Lucas. For God's sake, make a new movie series instead!
Never liked Babylon 5, Stargate (any), and have never seen an episode of either Buffy or Angel. Tried to watch Firefly and wanted to eat molten glass instead. HATED Andromeda.
Conan the Destroyer broke my heart. In my world there are no Alien movies past "Aliens". Have never seen the X-Files movies. Didn't like Twin Peaks at all.
I don't play MMOs, MMORGs, or any other video games. When they evolved past the one joystick and one button phase I was done. I don't play CCG's.
I have never liked Larry Elmore's art, or Jeff Easley's. I could not stand the Dragonlance series. I hated Wormy and Snarfquest. I didn't like the Dark Elf saga. I liked the LotR movies more than the books.
I can't stand the way dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts are drawn in most RPG monster books. Good grief, how hard is it to actually look up the latest images based on scientific evidence? And the giant gar in the PFB2? Has that artist ever SEEN a gar? Or in PFB1-I would expect the artist to know the difference between a mastodon and a mammoth. Or at least look up an image to get a basic idea.
It bugged the crap outta me that in Abram's "Star Trek" they were able to beam aboard the Enterprise while it was at Warp 3 (39 times the speed of light). At that speed it was billions of miles from the planet they were stranded on.
I love Abby on "NCIS". Sure, the show is hardly reality based, but I love quirky girls. I like Garcia on "Criminal Minds" for the same reason. I also like the crapgasmically bad movies on SyFy.
Wow, this went on longer than I expected. And it could go longer. I better stop now.

Wanting single malt scotch is not geeky, its snobby... but that's ok, I love a good single-malt.
For the life of me, I used to love Star Wars, then I grew up... Really I find it fairly repugnant in all its forms. I don't want to feel that way, but really... come on George(Lucas)next time try a little...:(
Still love Star Trek/B5/ and anything with Ninja(duh!)or that should be on Late, Late Kung-Fu theater...

I know he's an easy target, but I can't stand Salvatore. I have a friend who many years ago insisted to me that Salvatore was the savior of all fantasy literature. So I borrowed something... I think it was that one where Drizzt and Wolfgar kill the white dragon. I thought it was eh, not totally bad, but eh. So he insisted I read another so as to become convinced of The Greatness.
So I read another, and about halfway through realized that I had been unconsciously editing it for bad content, bad writing and missed editing opportunities. As in actual words used in the wrong context. Frequently! I know there are fans here, but man-alive! What torture.
This began a very strange cycle between my friend and I, where he would read something, try to tell me it was good, then loan it to me so that we could argue over it in an educated way. In time, I convinced him to come back to the light, but the joke really is on me. I must be the only person in the world who has read nearly every book Salvatore has written for TSR/WoTC out of spite.

If you hate him so much, why do you KNOW the vast majority of his work? I'm not a big fan of the show Big Bang Theory, and the only one I've ever watched beyond the pilot and a few episodes in (long enough for me to decide that yup, this show sucks) was the one with Summer Glau in it. And by "watch" what I meant is "have it on in the background and look up whenever I hear Summer Glau".
Which brings me to the true point of this rambling post. If Big Bang Theory was worth watching, it would have included Firefly references in said episode. Nope...it was all Terminator. BOO HISS BOOO !!!
