I THINK I'm done. Just finished adding the BBC codes. Not submitting yet; going to wait till I've slept so I can double check it and make sure my math and formatting aren't crazy off due to fatigue. REALLY didn't expect this round would cause as much sleep deprivation as it has. :-)

No kidding. I woke up this morning and I was like "I am so tired. It can't POSSIBLY be time to go to work." Two 3am weeknights will do that to ya...

The last few rounds I was lucky to have a snow day every time an entry was due. But this time, I had to take a day and a half off. Which was fine as I had time off I had to use anyways. But I will be submitting with an hour. Good luck everyone!

Hah. I played hooky yesterday too. (Something I'd reserved the right to do the minute the contest began, but hadn't actually needed to yet.) Mostly to give myself a few quiet hours to work on my map; even so, I told myself it was unnecessary and I was only really padding my work time. Then I wound up being awake till 5 AM finishing my entry. Clearly, calling out from work was a good idea.

Yes, I agree. I left early Wednesday, was in good shape or so I thought and when I first got up yesterday was like, "I won't need the whole day." I needed the whole day.

Done and done (posted and e-mailed). Now, time to shower and put away all the Pathfinder books sprawled out all over the kitchen before the house cleaning lady comes. For a guy who said "I'm not buying anymore D&D books" right before 4e came out, I do have a lot of Pathfinder books.

I happen to have the solid excuse of actually being sick. Calling into work is easier on the conscience when you have an infection waging war on your sinuses.

So, I finally had my first RPG superstar themed nightmare. I submitted, went to bed, and dreamed about all sorts of things I'd left out or made mistakes in for my submission. Then I woke up and realized that all the things I had been dreaming about made no sense whatsoever. I wonder if my subconscious was trying to tell me something...

Same thing happens to me, every round. I just tend to worry a lot and all the coffee I've been drinking lately doesn't help. A couple of months ago, I dreamed that Treerazer attacked me in the mall. That picture of him in the corebook is kind of scary.

And submitted! Thats the closest I have cut it to the submission deadline yet. Bloody map was being uncooperative there for a while!

I had my first one the night before the archetypes went up for the public to view. The submission deadlines don't bug me that much, but the waiting for the judges reviews and then for the public to start commentating kills me.

What got me last time was Neil and Sean's teaser posts about what to expect on Tuesday when the villains came out. I kept swing between self confidence and feelings of utter failure. Maybe it's just the weather (today actually feels almost like spring here in NH) but I feel relaxed about Tuesday. Or, maybe it's just my nerves are so frayed, I can no longer feel anxiety. But we'll see how I feel Tuesday at 4:59pm.

I keep thinking of what one of the judges said the other night on "Face-Off"- "Your design is a vessel for your ineptitude." Whatever, I do, I don't to fail that badly.

I hate hail, mostly because I'm afraid it will dent my car.

A couple of weekends I came home from a night out. It was a mix of freezing rain/snow. And then thunder...

The systems are all MUBAR here at work. I was going to post more about Meneena and so ideas I had for her, but I'm going to wait until the big reveal on Tuesday in case any of you chose her. Speaking of which, since out of 16 villains, we had five repeat portraits, I wonder if we'll see repeat villains. Though 6 out of the 8 did, and we ended up alright (but I still want to see a thrown down between Meneena and Andrakula). Well, system is back online. Time to do work. Have a good weekend, everyone. I'll see you all on Tuesday!

I haven't had dreams yet, but I was making a cheesecake for a Valentines dinner and while glazing it started imagining it being evaluated by Ask A RPGSuperSuccubus. (And yes, as a perfectly-baked dense, yet moist, white chocolate cheesecake with rasberry glaze and a sculpted dark chocolate heart on top, it is the exact sort of thing you would want a paladin housepet feeding you as you recline on a velvet divan...)

I sort of had to shake my head to clear it. I think that's when I started to realize the contest was taking up just a wee bit too much space in my head.

Looks like tonight will a quiet evening at home. Went out "shopping" this afternoon. Picked up Matt's "Cult of the Ebon Destroyers." I've been waiting for this one and I figure it's required reading if you're in this competition to see how his pitch turned into the finished module. Went and picked up some steak tips after, then hit the cigar store, and then the beer store. Got some Dogfish Head Midas Touch beer. Also, tonight should be a new episode of Spartacus. I also got "Shadow of the Sword" from Netflix. It has the actor who is going to play Jaime in the "Game of Thrones" HBO series. Since Jaime is one of my favorite characters in that series, I want to see if the guy can pull it off. Of course, the rest of the weekend won't be so pleasant. Tomorrow and Monday, I'll be buried in homework. I only have one class this semester but it's the most work intensive with concurrent group projects. Plus, I should do my taxes...

You might want to check out the canceled tv series New Amsterdam if you like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. He played a 400 year old cop in NYC that was granted immortality by a shaman for saving the life of a native american girl during a massacre (he took a sword to the chest). Very good show with lots of historic flashbacks.

Cool, thanks. I remember seeing ads back for it in the day. He better make a good Jaime but I'm confident with all the other awesome choices they made casting, he will. Still bummed that Tazmin Merchant dropped out of playing Dany. She was in the Tudors and I thought she would have made an excellent Dany.

I was never thrilled by New Amsterdam, personally, but didn't have a problem with him; in fact, when I read he was cast it was sort of like 'Wow, why didn't I think of that whenever I planned out imaginary dream casts for ASoIaF?' Good actor and physcially very much looks the part. (Not that looking right is everything; I never would have pictured Lena Headey as Cersei just because she makes an odd blonde to me, but I KNOW she can carry the role with ease.)

God, I can't wait for April. :-)

George Martin just posted another HBO clip from it. I'm going to sign up for HBO just for it. I'm hoping that as episodes come out, they go into my Metrocast OnDemand library so I can watch it every night. Especially since I can't count on ever seeing book 5...I went to his blog tonight and there was this announcement, "Big news, Big news," so I'm like "Sweet, he's finally finished book 5", no, he's like "I married my girlfriend of 30 years"... I really liked that show, too bad the writer's strike killed it.

You naturally need a good base on a truly luxurious cheesecake. Assuming that you're catering with ingredients sourced locally in a Material world setting, a mixture of particular biscuit crumbs and lightly toasted crushed oatmeal, glued together with just the right ratio of dark sugar and butter and a subtle touch of spices is appropriate.

[light tease] Progress on the format of my Round 4 reviews is ongoing.
I have also (for some time) been giving serious thought to the format of my Round 5 ones. I think it likely that in this latter case I will be referencing four ladies named Anthea, Byrria, Cynthia, and Daria... (Naturally these names are very much abbreviated from their abyssal forms.) [/light tease]

Perhaps if the location was sufficiently decadent for a succubus to live in while pondering how to further tempt mortal souls? But I'm sure you'll figure something out :).

Just to make sure I have the approval of the Abyss (because having a gang of Vrock in your kitchen doing the dance of ruin makes for unfortunate dinner parties...):

The crust in question was composed of equal portions vanilla wafer and chocolate graham cracker crumbs, mixed with a small amount of milled almond flour and cocoa powder for a slightly more complex flavor. Butter was used as the adhering ingredient; people who use margarine in baking are sent directly to the daemons of Abaddon when they die. The crust was plentiful, allowing a thick layer on the bottom of the pan that was able to be built a good way up the sides prior to baking.

I'm dubious on the vanilla wafer front, but prepared to make allowances for eccentricities in personal taste and on the basis that perhaps your vanilla wafers may not be quite so unfortunately soulless as the ones which I have to work with here.

You are correct, sir, as to the torments which await those who confuse margarine for a real cooking ingredient - unless the intention behind use is to pointedly hint to freeloading ecclesiastical house-guests of a Church of Orcus persuasion that perhaps they really should be moving on somewhere else and actually doing some of the Dark Lord's work instead of holidaying for any longer.
I will Approve the rest of your formula, and not send any vrocks around for now - unless you happen to require some for grape-trampling duties.

Oh, but decadence is one of those things which comes and goes with fashions (although naturally succubi of good taste are often setting those fashions) and it's so much more fun at times working out how to tempt angels... ;)

Contrariness aside for a moment, I have a basic Round 4 format in place now, and just require a few days to ponder and calibrate as necessary...

Posts and results go live at 5pm Eastern time. What's been difficult for me is that I have to a special project for work from the hours of 4pm-8pm on Tuesdays and only Tuesdays. It's like the Fates are laughing at me. Also means on Tuesdays, to read through everyone's entries, I'm forced to hit the nearest fast food restaurant during my dinner break. Which means I'll be digesting the judges comments on my entry while trying to digest McDonald's chicken nuggets.

To the top 8, to quote Conan the Barbarian from the original movie, "There is no spring for us, only the fresh wind before the storm."

Tuesdays I work from 1-9 PM. I've grown to kind of dig the exercise in self-discipline that is resisting the urge to check the entries and comments for 4+ hours till I get home from work. (I mean, I could do it AT work, but if things go well, I'd have a hard time tearing myself away from reading to do anything else from 5 PM on, and if things go poorly, I'd rather be at snug at home with ready access to comfort foods.) Nevertheless, I lack actual serenity or composure; I've been an edgy wreck after 5 every Tuesday for the past month.

Last time, I waited until 8pm but the site crashed. My problem on Tuesday is that I spend half a day on my project so it's nearly impossible to get my other work done which is supervising my team. After lunch, that leaves me about 3 hours, so I consider the day a wash for work which means I just read my entry about 50 times to analyze every nuance. The funny thing is my mother's first question is always, "What did that one judge say?" referring to Ryan Dancey who's been the most critical of work (and nothing wrong with that! I appreciate his input, but Mama Bennett is protective cuz all she understands about the comments is recommend or not recommend!).

The last few rounds I was lucky to have a snow day every time an entry was due. But this time, I had to take a day and a half off. Which was fine as I had time off I had to use anyways. But I will be submitting with an hour. Good luck everyone!

Take a day off! I should have done that last year... might have made it another round!

That would be one of my pieces of advice for next year's contestants. Make sure you got time to do the contest. Working on entries takes up a lot of time and you should make sure you have that time.

Good luck, guys. Reading through the entries, I don't think any of us (me in particular) got a resounding four recommends from all the judges. Will the public vote based on this round alone or weigh in our previous work? It's hard to say but I think it will be close, especially that 3rd and 4th spot.

Win or lose, I just have to say it's pretty cool to have my encounter immortalized on the board with a map I can go on, click and enlarge.

I'm not even remotely a statistician or anything; I always hated math. So it's entirely possible this isn't that far outside an average probability spread or whatever. But how crazy is it that out of a choice of 16 villains, (who themselves used 11 portraits}, this round only saw use of 5 villains (who used 4 portraits between them.)? Fun stuff.

This worries me that when the final four do their pitches, three of them will take place in the same country. I think we are starting to form a hive mind collective. Soon we won't be individuals, but have the statistics of a swarm.

Seriously though, I was surprised there was no Lady Rosaline/Thom encounter. When I read that villain, it made me think of Jekyll and Hyde which then made me think of both "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "Van Helsing." Granted, bad movies, but they both had cool chases with Hyde on the rooftops of Paris. I picture PCs doing the same with Thom.

Cue obligatory Borg reference here. Something something futile, I think?

I'm not; as much as my personal vanity would have been tickled by that, I don't think Rosiline was optimal as a villain for this round. Thom doesn't have a ready stat block, so a hypothetical entry involving him would have to use one (and burn up precious word count). Plus, since he's the pet and technically Rosiline is the villain, it could be argued the encounter would require her presence in it (which would again, negate Thom). And unfortunately, I think she makes for a less 'fun' encounter.

Admittedly, I'd love to see what someone else would have come with as a location involving her, since I have a hard time picturing her outside a (fairly boring) townhouse/villa/mansion.
I am, however, kind of surprised nobody used Lyell. Antipaladin!

Ah, I forgot the point about no-stat block for the eidolon. None of my players have tried the new APG classes so I'm a little weak on the summoner (and since I'm always stuck DMing, I never get to be a player and I want to try the cavalier).

Well, gang, it's out of our hands now. Just wanted to wish everyone good luck in the voting. I'm going to "try" (which requires an hourly Will save) to stay off the boards until voting closes. I hate suspense and I think last spot in the top 4 is going to be really close :).

I just rolled a 1 on the will save. :)

Just out of interest, anyone else going to be at Dreamation this weekend?
