Cauldron's Founders. Who were they?

Shackled City Adventure Path

Scarab Sages

My PC's will be dressing as Founders for the Ball, except for the Nabthataron costumes. I know the founders were those with Surabar when he founded Redgorge and Cauldron. These are the noble families, Aslaxian, taskerhill, Rhiaviadi, Terciavl, Vanderboren. Was a representative of the navalant family present?

has anyone given names and classes to the Founders? I can do this, to be sure, but just wanted any ideas and wanted to know if any of this has become accepted as canon/history.

I'm worried about the same issue. Here's what I've come up with: At the beginning of Ch. 5, it says that only descendants of the 5 original founding noble families have the right to challenge the captain of the town guard, so that tells us how many families to start with. One has to be Surabar, or else the trait Scion of Surabar doesn't make sense. Tercival's got to be one. Aslaxin, and Taskerhill seem like strong candidates, although one could treat them as families that were raised to the nobility later. The set-up in Ch. 9 tells us that the Vanderborens were only raised to the nobility by the late mayor Navalant. Other candidates for the original five: the Rhiavadis, Navalant, Knowlern (though she bases herself in Hollowsky). In my own campaign, I'll probably have the 5 founderS be Surabar, a Taskerhill, an Aslaxin, a Tercival, and a Rhiavadi. For the purposes of the party, one could perhaps also dress up as Kozomagon Lidu, friend and rival of Surabar and founder of Liduton, the haunted village.

Hello,

I read somewhere that Navalant was not part of the founding family but came later around 10 years ago to be the Mayor don't remember if it's an "official" answer or some add from a DM in the forum.
In my campaign there his no representative of Surabar left, he shot the demons, founded Redgorge and Cauldron and went away to an Epic destiny....he was a very powerful CG half elemental sorcerer (not detailed).
Lidu is now a Lich (not stated but around 20th level LN/LE necro ) in an underground tomb near the haunted village, some evil ones (Necrcant?)are there in search of his staff:"The Hand of Death".They better have to not find him...but he can be an ally for the PC if they try to contact him (I don't think they'll do it).

I like the idea of Lidu as a Lich somewhere. I agree that there are no descendants of Surabar, but he definately was one of the Founders.

I am leaning toward Tercival, Aslaxian, Taskerhill, Rhiavandi and Lidu. I figure he had a 6 person group.

my campaign is a Pathfinder and set in Golarion.

As far as their classes, that is where I am stumped. Obviously, Tercival is a Paladin of iomedae (replace Cuthert). I am thinking that Aslaxian was a cleric (Cayden Cailean, replacing Kord). Taskerhill was a warrior, Rhiavandi a rogue (to explain the family wealth)and Lidu being Surabars apprentice, maybe a mystic theurge worshipper of Nethys(replacing Wee Jas) who dabbled in necromancy. Of course Surabar was a wizard, probably an earth elementalist, who was buried under a mountain somewhere on the island.

My thoughts..I would love to hear opinions from those who have previously done this.

I kind of got caught in this trap as well. The group went half and half (demons / founders) and it became quickly apparent that the detail just wasn't there as far as names.

My solution was to throw that out of the picture as being unnessesary. I emphasised to the group that this was a Costume Ball and that it was a Masked Ball to boot. Clothing and Hair style was what was really important, as well as magical accesories or baubles if they could arainge for them. This brought the group back into focus, and let them go "hog wild" with their imaginations as they began to use their magical talents to spice up their outfits and the carriages that they arrived at the ball in.

Illusion Magic. It gets left on the roadside a lot in my campaigns, but the group really enjoyed using it in this creative way.

Interesting - I never really intended a party to dress as anything other than demons when I wrote the ball but, looking back over my original notes, I didn't specify this in the costume section. This is why I only have description of Demonic Costumes and not Founders Costumes which Cauldron nobility are only entitled to wear.

The idea of this was to allow the party to differentiate between the classes immediately and ensure the group is initially on the back foot with the dignantries at the gathering. It also ensured the division and uncertainty when meeting the Stormblades at the event also.

Wouldn't have made any significant difference to the Ball but may have meant you didn't need to concern yourself with engineering the Founders either.

Makes for an interesting discussion none-the-less :D

Sorry for being off topic but can someone tell me where the old RPG genius stuff posted by Delevesdeep is now located?- Is it all in one spot anymore?

Hey Delvesdeep,
The problem I am going to encounter, I guess, is a fundamental problem with my friends. I told them to invest in social skills before the campaign, but only 1 really did, because most of them used Chrisma asa dump stat. The Paladin is really the only one with some social abilities. Gonna have to wing it, I guess...

my friends reallywould have balked at going as demons, especially the Paladin, Cleric and Ranger. I just know they would have...

One of my players is an urban ranger whose parents were killed by demons when she was little, and who picked evil outsiders as her first favored enemy. I'm definitely going to give her a demon invitation and watch how she deals with it. Should be more interesting than the alternative.

You are missing "Gaelen Trodor" from the list of founders....

He is in the hardcover under Drakthar's way as the fake name used to hire the were-rats....Pg 81.....

Then a knowledge history/local DC 15 identifies him as one of cauldrons founders, who has been dead hundreds of years.

I have seen no other mention of him at all anywhere else.

Fair enough. Out of interest what costumes did the players that attended the Ball as nobles wear?

Delves,
We have not played the ball out yet, so I have to wait. I have gamed with these guys for 20+ years, and getting them to actually roleplay can be difficult at times...we'll see how it goes.

If you are sending stuff out, i'd like to see the foreshadowing docs And the alternate Ad nd Cws

Are all these things the same as on the RPGenius site?

Anything you want to ship my way, i would be happy to read..

Never heard of number 5, and I could totally use number 10. :)

Hey DD, thanks for the Sasserine stuff. it looks really cool. I'd love to read anything else you have, when you have time. Even if i cannot use it, it is great reading. I may use Sasserine in another campaign I am coming up with. It looks totally cool...

Hi,

I´m new here. Hello folks!

ATM I prepare for dungeonmastering SCAP and think all of this will be very useful to make this campaign even more better.

Delvesdeep, please email the whole packet to me:

email:
gaming@raffael-benckert.de

I´m really looking forward to position 4 and 7. Was highly praised here :-)

Question: I own the hardcover SCAP. Are there errata or similar available / necessary?

Many thanks!

Bell,
Both of these sites are very helpful, as well as searching the boards...I am in chapter 5 with 2 groups, so if I can assist with anything, email me
patman21967@comcast.net

Are you running 3.5 or converting to pathfinder?

Patman, thanks a lot. This Repository is nice! :-)
Tons of material to read ;-)

I´m running SCAP on 3.5 Forgotten Realms.

While I don´t estimate real problems (I carfully prepare the AP using all available info here and at RPGenius) in spite of problems I´ll contact you. Thanks!!

,Bellistor

Sorry I haven't been on for a long time but what I may do is, rather than email them out (there is a fairly significant list of addresses) is just start up a few threads - one fore each of the topics. This way people can find them here without having to search other sites.

Sorry for the lengthy delay
