Help with Cockatrice Cavalier

Advice

I'm looking for both build advice to make the best use of their Braggart order ability (and maybe demoralizing opponents in general), and role-playing advice on how to make him a selfish yet loveable bastard.

Take shatter defensesno dex to ac is nice. Consider TWF (you get enough feats for it and mounted)

Use a Scimitar and your teamwork feats should be paired Oppurtunists and Outflank in that order. Tactician with these and flanking allies creates a lot of free attacks at +4 or +8.

Unfortunately your challengedamage will only stack with your cockatrice challenge damage if you are one on one. If you wanna be a 'team' player then Tactician becomes more important. Maybe forget TWF and go cobat expertise, Gangup, practiced Tactician instead.

As for being a lovable Bastard? All roleplay baby

Darn, I saw this thread and thought, "Oooh, someone is making a cockatrice riding kobold or goblin cavalier -- that's awesome!"

Shatter Defenses is nice--I missed that one somehow but I'll be sure to take it.

Why TWF?

Why a Scimitar? I think I missed something.

I do plan on taking both Paired Opportunists and Outflank, those flanking bonuses are very nice.

Thanks for the reply.

the scimitar has a high crit chance and the teamwork feats trigger off of crits. twf is to get lots of attacks with your challenge damage bonus.

Aha!

The only Teamwork Feat I'm seeing that has a trigger for a critical is Outflank. Not that crits are bad or anything, just that it only applies to that feat as far as I can tell.

More attacks with challenge bonus makes sense though, I'll have to consider a TWF build.

Any suggestions on how to do TWF right?

You might want to look at The Cavalier's Creed. Although it's primarily a book of new feats, it also dissects the Cavalier and gives you some example builds, one of which is a two-weapon Cavalier.

Thanks for the suggestions. I downloaded it and I'm reading it over now.

What he said.

Cavalier is an awesome team player, thanks to teamwork feats (like a non magical cross between bard and fighter)

Challenge, smite, SA and other big damage adding abilities benefit from more attacks rather than single hits.

Cavalier is great at both.

With your bonus feats you can fit the following:
TWF, Doubleslice
Improved Shieldbash
Mounted Combat
Shieldslam
ITWF (Gtr TWF is only worth it for a Order of the Shield cavalier)
Shieldmaster
TWRend
Either:
Ride by attack and Spirited Charge
or
Trick Riding and mounted skirmisher.

Now, which mounted feats you take depends on style of campaign.
In MOST aps there is tight low level dungeons, with wide open spaces at higher levels. For this reason i normally go twf first. Mounted is learned later when you.have room to ride. Mounted skirmisher is better since you can full attack all the time while horse moves.

Also, DnD is a team sport. Unless you are the only melee i'd advize against cockatrice. It's challenge bonus damage.only stacks with order damage if you are in single combat.

The best IMHO are order of the shield (free improved standstill ability, plus bonus to hit on a challenge) for pure DPR and tanking.

If you wanna Gangup on the challenge then order of the dragon is best party buffer bar bards.

Anyway they rock.Be sure to take birthmark trait to help will save
