The magus and familiar must be in contact when the magus casts the spell, but the player can probably arrange that. It seems like a good way to lose a familiar if a single melee attack from the opponent is that scary.

If you're not willing to be up close and personal with your magic... the magus is not the character to be playing. Roll a wizard instead.

spectral hand might well be a spell useful to a magus, with taking the arcana for though?

I'm not sure I understand what you're suggesting. That you deliver a Touch through your Familiar who delivers that touch through a Spectral Hand? Why? What is the purpose of that?
This idea also seems to fall under "If you're not willing to be up close and personal with your magic... the magus is not the character to be playing. Roll a wizard instead."

no spectral hand instead. but its not on the magus spell list so itd be arcana.
Im just looking outside of the envelope.
never had much of a use for familiars delivering touch spells or spectral hand with previous casters, just looking for already existing rules that might work in quirky new ways with a new class.
alot of people have been whining about magus failing defensive casting rolls at lower levels, and loosing spells etc. So i was just thinking familiars can deliver touch spells at 3rd level....
only time Ive ever seen that done usefully, is a witch with a healing spell, and her raven flew from one side of the battle field to the other.
familiars are so "meh" I was thinking maybe it might be a neat trick for a magus.
5 foot step is also something i never used much of, only in special circumstances.
I was thinking about a dagger throwing magus, with quick draw, who could huck the dagger and use the familiar to deliver touch spells. things like greater invisibility and other spells would work at higher levels to keep the familiar intact.

A lot of folks tend to whine about not having IWIN buttons at low levels, they forget that with limited spells perhaps a low level magus shouldn't be using spell combat as often as his higher level peers. And that a lot of magus spells DO have range on them for a reason... so you can soften up the enemies closing to you. Sometimes it's best just to whale on people for a round. Or go and take that Combat Casting feat even if it's not going to be useful at uber high levels.
The magus is the counter to the Step Up fighter.

I think he should be -- but using level 0 spells instead for the most part -- attack back off and cast acid splash for that little bit to finish the target off -- or daze/flare.
