Yes! My Inquisitor is filling the role of the fighter in our party and doing a good job at it. A fighter is better at it as they don't run out of Bane and judgments though. And when caught off guard don't need a round to buff.
Basically if I can cast one buff, activate judgment the first round, and activate bane the second round while attacking I'm doing as good as fighter. With out those buffs I don't do as well as fighter.

During somthing of a play test me and a buddy did with the class. I found the inquisitor did fine in melee. He had a 5th level elf with two elven curvblades, one silvered one coldiron, and I pit him aginst all sorts of things. While he did buff and rely on his judgments , what is what the class does, there were time he didnt have the chance. He fought toe to toe with wearwolves, corupet fey, ect. And did ok.
I would say choose your build well. dont over extend your abilities to thin. And focus on a particular combat styl or weapon. My friend and I are weapon fenesse fans so curvblades and light multifunctonal stuff like daggers and throwing axes are seen alot.

I just finished up playing a Dwarven Inquisitor using a Glaive. It was a bit of an odd character, but fun to play. My damage output was overshadowed almost all the time by the two-handed weapon specialist fighter, but that was expected. I used Expeditous Retreat a lot and focused on positioning and mobility. I had poor luck with my Bane (poorly timed 2's and 3's all over the place), but when it did hit, it gave a lot of hurt. I also used party buffs when possible.
He wasn't a shining star of a character, and I wish I had gotten more use out of his skills and utility spell selection, but I still had fun.

It's suboptimal compared to an archery Inquisitor, but still totally feasible. Solo Tactics when combined with the right Teamwork Feats can work magic in melee. A high crit range by L14 is nice. Choice of domain will also be more important than it would be with the archer variant: aura of destruction will be a dramatic boost versus big single targets; the repose touch attack is particularly handy with a party monk (Medusa's Wrath).

I just read an other thread:
Quote:From the FAQ page on APG.
Can druids, inquisitors, and other classes with access to domains take the subdomains listed in the cleric section of the APG?
Yes, as long as they follow the rules for subdomains on page 86. A character who does not worship a deity (such as some druids and paladins) may select any one subdomain appropriate to a domain available to his or her class. (SKR 10/12/10)–Sean K Reynolds (10/12/10)
So a Inquisitor could take the Growth domain. Swift enlarge is nice with the right weapon. Maybe a reach weapon and combat reflexes ;-)

I like the switch-out curved blades (I assume he uses them at diff times, since they are 2-handed weapons). Back in my Rolemaster days, I had a character witha Cohort who basically just caddied around my variety of swords. He had Monster Lore, Lore for Swords and anatomy and would just call out (Like a Golf Caddy) 'I think that the broadsword might be good for the Troll, sir, best you put away the rapier...' Etc. I even named him Jeeves 'Excellent Jeeves, I shall be requiring the Slan Orr (Elven Short Sword) for the finishing blow, I think...'

I just finished CoT with my group. I was playing an inquisitor with the Destruction domain and a greatsword. I teamed with the TWF fighter in the party. He picked up the Outflank feat as well and we routinely turned opponents into a fine red mist. With the teamwork feats, judgements, buffs, banes, power attack, and liberal use of the aura of destrution, I could reliably contribute damage in the range of triple digts per round. Without spoilers, the final fight was essentially won the moment I managed to step into flanking position against the final boss.
Oh, yeah. Inquisitors can melee and be terrifying at it.

Ha! One of my friends played a character like that in a Swashbuckling Adventures game, though with admittedly less utility. The call "Zolf, give me the second zwiehander!" continues to elicit laughs from our group to this day.

Similar to the one of a player of mine - scythe instead of greatsword.
Spams buffs, uses improved invisibility and causes pain.

Which is pretty much how it should work. It's called balance.

I have been play testing a Dwarven Inquisitor with a worn-Dergar (DoG) and wirlwind attack.
It does all right throwing 1d10 + strength and 4d6 bane to applicable foes that round.
The issues is that it takes some time to get to use it in such a frithening manner. As it takes 6 featsand 12 levels to get to that point. Being human and having the war domain could reduce the Feat eating of the tree. As could using the Heirloom Weapon Trait. Still working on the build, though. Might even try a whip or spiked chain variant for laughs.
I did have a Dagger Specialist Inquisitor. Using both Ranged and Melee Feats. To be honest it worked well...and kinda felt like playing an Invisible Blade from WotC Complete Warrior.
Commentary wise; I don't feel like the Inquisitor is a less effective Paladin. The flavor and way i've come to play with them, is that Inquisitors blur the line between Paladin and Ranger with a dash of Divine Bard.

Playing PFS, second character is an inquistor. I can say I am pretty surprised at his effectiveness. I do like the flavor of the class. Reminds me of the game The Witcher which I love. So my strength is 16 and dex is 14 con 12 int 14 wis 12 cha 8, as players keep using hybrid builds. I keep finding my self "tanking" I have a AC of 21 and am going for a whirlwind attack build. There is allot that I really enjoy playing this character. I plan on stat raising Wis so I can keep casting spells. There is also allot to be gained using a high crit ranged weapon.
